Definitely a rough job! Did this a couple months ago, just a note for anyone having to tackle this…fully removing the battery tray box will give you more room when you’re removing or installing parts in that tight spot! Great job!

Thank you. For me that is the smallest but hardest job I have tackled on my GTI so far🤣.

I’m going to be doing mine soon also 👌🏽 I have the oem part as well since mine started to leaking after replacing the rear heater core hoses, and did the timing chain last year, clutch.

Great video. Going to help me do same job this week. Looks like you drained coolant from center auxiliary not right side lower radiator hose right? You think it was necessary to drain or just kept the mess down a bit?

Hi mate thanks, glad you liked the video. Yes the right side lower radiator hose is still quite hard to get at so I think it is a lot easier to drain the coolant from the centre, plus I think it is the lowest point of the coolant system. Be patient & Good luck 💪🏿

A few years back i bought a bunch of cast metal coolent flanges off aliexpress and now they dont make them anymore. As for the oring on the temp sensor, never go aftermarket they dont fit right. They will leak but only after the system is off the vacuum will pull it in and it will leak past till the seal cools and then blocks the flow. I had issues with comebacks using the aftermarket orings no now its dealer only.

I did wonder if a metal coolant flange would have been a better option instead of the plastic one. It just seems like a strange design. Yes I tried an o-ring of my own but it wouldn't fit properly & I am glad now. I bought one from the main dealer & it sounds like I did the right thing from what you are saying. Very good advice you are giving me👍🏿.

@@aguycalledjoe7802 Well what makes it odd is it runs a vacuum line into the flange when its not needed. I have never understood why. As for the O-ring its not a normal size its just a little different from a normal size to where you think an aftermarket would work, it wont. The factory one will fit and once turned over will not come off the aftermarket units fall off if you turn them over because they are just a normal O-ring.
