Mike Malaska's ability to illustrate simply what the desired action is and 'painting' a mental picture people can relate to is so incredibly helpful.

The shaft on the ground is a great visual!! What caught my ear, the hips move "BACK". rather than hips "turning".

Miraculous. I've been practicing hard for the past five years to get a smooth swing with great contact. Every once in a while, I would get an effortless swing where my arms just whipped through the ball and the club felt like a feather. I've been searching for a way to repeat that. I just went to the range, watched this video in the parking lot, and hit that perfect stroke on 120 out of 135 balls. Just thinking about the hips did it. It worked through the whole bag - all 13 clubs. THANK YOU!

A big fan of Mike Malaska because he makes many of his lessons easy to understand. This was a real eye opener to me. I watched it yesterday, and then played 9 holes today and hit a number of "high" quality golf shots by just concentrating on straight line moving my hips back and through my shots. Still need to get consistent, but the good shots were great shots. I am a 74 yr young single digit handicap who watches many videos that unfortunately get too technical. This was a GREAT video.

Thanks guys for this clarification on how to get hip depth. This kind of information is very helpful, in my quest for more swing speed this winter. I've been doing the first level Superspeed protocol for a couple of weeks now and having access to information like this, is great. It's all so easy...Just like beating a large base drum with alternate glutes. Finish the backswing with a BOOM with the trail glute sequenced with a downswing finish BOOM with the lead side glute. If I think about making the backswing boom, the loudest one, the rest of my swing syncs up better and actually produces more swing speed. Using my homemade force pedals, helps a lot with training and synchronizing the rest of my body with this compound hip move.

Thank you for these 2 videos about hip depth. For so long, I've heard, turn your hips, bump your hips, shift your weight, get your body in a certain position. It never felt right. My body was always in the way. When all it is is right foot back, left foot back. Although I have tried to execute the drill without too much success, I find if I just tell myself, right foot back, left foot back--a message from my brain to my body--at least in practice, I am making better contact with the ball, and I am staying in position through the ball.

Absolutely brilliant lesson that delivers a superb, detailed explanation of the golf swing. I’m glad to see some great coaches (you two) debunk the coaching of the “Tiger years “ that destroyed so many backs by teaching golfers to load up the right leg and restrain hip movement. And if you observe the modern day Tiger he’s clearly embraced a swing that more resembles this swing we see here. More Nicklaus and Hogan like. I’ve embraced Stack & Tilt recently and this lesson conforms 100% to the principles of S&T. Thank you!
@josephwirtz8352
@josephwirtz8352 2 года назад
I was just wondering how this compared with Stack & Tilt. This video doesn’t address weight shift, which seems to be anathema in S&T. Are you thinking that the right hip back doesn’t conflict with weight being primarily on the left in S&T?
@TheBerkeleybob
@TheBerkeleybob 2 года назад
@@josephwirtz8352 Actually this video is very consistent with S&T, the principles of which are often misunderstood. In S&T it’s 55% of your weight on the left side , with shoulders and hips all “stacked.” It’s really no more than left shoulder down, right shoulder down, but LOWER as you hit into the ball. On the backswing, the right leg must be allowed to STRAIGHTEN, allowing the right hip to rotate toward the target. Hogan did it. Nicklaus did it. They ALL tilt. Most choose not to use the terminology but most of the pros ALL tilt down on their. S&T is NOT by any means any sort of a reverse pivot. That’s a common misunderstanding.
@TheBerkeleybob
@TheBerkeleybob 2 года назад
@@josephwirtz8352 BTW, with S&T there IS inherently a weight shift to the right side, but this occurs subtly while the core remains centered over the ball as you rotate the left shoulder down and the right shoulder down and through. Like any conventional swing on your a S&T swing will have you finish your swing with 95-100% of your weight on the left side. But there is never any sway over the right side.

I totally agree with the concepts displayed but the only issue here is that interpretation of feel. One person’s feel can be dramatically different from another’s unfortunately. Turn for example, and a term mentioned here, can be appropriate for some. Feels can be tricky. Pictures in the mind can even be tricky. The beat goes on. Fascinating game this is.

If you think about moving left towards the ball as the club, your hands, wrist, arms and shoulders move away from the ball … it is really easy to understand particularly with how well this relates to other sports … it definitely creates a powerful, dynamic move … … but, something is bugging me, how do you sequence that move along with your hips moving back in a straight line? In other words if you start the downswing in your backswing by moving left when your hands are about in front of your right thigh … then when does your hip start to move back? Do you just practice each task independently and then things just self organize during a full swing? Hope this makes sense …

Hey Jeff! In my experience with 20,000 or so lessons its not as much flexibility as some want to believe. Its part of it...but I would say 80% is moving correctly.
@bommaritohawaii
@bommaritohawaii 2 года назад
@@CogornoGolf Agree its more so the motion itself / technique... flexibility (and strength) is a big factor for generating more leverage overall esp firing hips. Jack is a good example of flexibility. He tried to move as he did... can't today. Flexibility issue not a technique issue.

Brilliant insight. Why did it take so long for this straight line force idea to overcome early extension (plagues every learner of golf without exception) come into play by golf instructors? Had I known this simple concept from day one, I would have been on a much better path to improvement. Perhaps not knowing this was holding me back all these years. What a shame and shows how ill informed or misinformed or misguided traditional golf instruction has been. I am sure we will learn more with time as the mystery of the golf swing unravels layer by layer. Once we have a better understanding of the swing, we will no longer idolize the big names the way we do for there is method in all their madness that has been created on how great they were. Hmmm.

No it’s not. You can’t pull your arms like that in a golf swing.
