.. what a clear, sensible & to the point approach to the relationship of the hands and the golf club!! A must for all new golfers, good golfers who can become better golfers or those, like me, getting back into the game
Light Bulb moment for me. I never knew that it was the incorrect positioning of the right hand on the grip that was causing too steep an angle of attack with the Driver. I added 35 yards to my drives since correcting it. Thank you & keep up the good work
Excellent video. Don’t “grip it and rip it”. The softer you try the easier the game becomes. A light “hold" allows the wrists to hinge and unhinge.Get more centrifugal snap and blade ( including the putter) squares up at impact. Thus that light “hold” of the club must not be interfered with for the swing’s duration . Spot on Jay Zoop. Jack Nicklaus said the hands are the swing wreckers.
changing my grip to the over the top grip to prevent me from slicing is BY FAR THE BEST tip ive ever had in my life, it INSTANTLY stopped my from slicing it and improved my game so much.
You're bending the left wrist. If you bend the wrist you can make that V go to the right shoulder but if you have a straight line from shoulder to grip to clubhead, then the V points more towards left shoulder. To put it another way, with your bent wrist, your left hand is near your crotch. With a straight left wrist, the hands would be more forward and that straight line from shoulder to clubhead exists.
Me personally, I was putting the club handle way too far below the dot, too far into my fingers. That made for very inconsistent aim. Also I found that CONSISTANT grip pressure through the swing is very important.
"I'd rather wake up and find a Diamond Backed rattlesnake in my pajamas than I would hit a hook." Ben Hogan Hogan ought to know about the horrors of a hook, for he hit a hook with a strong grip for 8 years on the tour before Henry Piccard grabbed his hands on the practice tee and forced him to use a neutral grip. Before he never won any type of tournament. After that he won 9 Majors. Use the neutral grip. It's the natural way to hold the club and tends to produce a straight ball, the only natural shot in golf.
would like to know is your name gerry or charlie anyway your lesson on the grip with the old club I have been twisting my wrist a little you mentioning the thumbs you have gave someone who has given up 4 times since my car accident we always knew it was tension but didn't know how to fix it thanks
sir , you are a savior go all the people who's dying to learn the sport. thank you so much for your well explanations. please post more videos your the best !
Your back to basics lesson on the grip has improved my play...as you say "you must close the door to score". I was leaving the door open to bad shots due to improper grip. The rhymes help me visualize the action clearly. Great lessons Charlie and many thanks.
Ligerpride correct. But he always missed the ball left and never broke through to his greatness until he changed to a neutral grip with his thumb down the center of the shaft that he clearly talks about in the 5 lessons when he was playing his BEST golf.
seth bales True enough. It's a strange game like that though. His conditioned hit seemed to be more hooky so moving to neutral helped his game? Most people have a tendency to slice so maybe moving to a stronger grip would help them. I know for me at least my nemesis is a weak high cut.....moving to a strong grip has removed most of my golf bugbears.
Funny, I actually slice it with the stronger grip because you will get more cupping in the left wrist and that only increases in the backswing. But I have a large hand and a smaller wrist. By using a weak left and right grip I can flatten it now in the backswing and the slice is gone.
