Words can't express my gratitude. Used to be an 8, but after kids and not playing for 10 years, I can't break 100 because i hit a low duck hook. I paid for lessons, and hit countless balls, but i was still missing something. It was this exact message of right wrist position. This video coupled with a few range sessions, and SHAZAM.....I'm back to old form. I'm still exaggerating the wrist placement on takeaway, but I've never been happier to fix this problem in my golf swing. I owe you a beer (actually way more than that).

I had to search and search to find this video (because I didn't hit like the first time). I have played for 6-7 years and have watched every video imaginable. Endless hours sometimes. People out on the course would say "Wow...nice swing", but I just couldn't get consistent contact/compression and after watching this video I realized I was doing everything right but my fault was coming from underneath and it was causing me to cast to compensate. Shot a 78 today with this change (I've never broken 80...and average around the high 80's low 90's). I only missed around 3 fairways. This was my "gotcha" moment video. Best round of golf I ever played to the point it almost seemed surreal. It all makes sense now as long as I remember to just stay lose the ball just flies of the clubface. I've never in my life struck the ball better and this video was the reason for it. What a great instructor you are Eric. Simple and to the point.nWe all know golf has it's up and downs but I have a feeling this tip/video will make the ups more prevalent. Thanks Eric.

This Video changed my Golf Game so much I have never struck the ball so well in my life! I was literally bending my wrist the wrong way I was bending it to wear it would massively leave the club face wide open and then I would flip at the ball. This video changed my swing for good!! It felt really weird at first but after trusting it OMG it's crazy! The divits I take now are so good I literally can't believe it's me hahha! U are the man Eric! I stumbled on to what exactly you are talking about. You are 100% spot on. This idea has dramatically changed my game for the better. I’m a right handed player. Because I grip the club with a slightly stronger right hand beyond neutral...when my hands are set at the top of my backswing, they do NOTHING on the downswing except hold the right hand hinged angle. I simply turn through my downswing. My right elbow naturally, and gradually unfolds... and yes my hands release the club, but well after the ball has been struck. I love that I can flight my short irons much lower, AND hold greens. My compression is SO much better. Great video!

In the process of hinging the trail wrist to the maximum and holding the flex, the elbow is held and tucked into the waist. ONE simple focus thought on the trail wrist and (for me) the rest with the correct rotation falls in to place. Great instructional video. Many thanks.

This really works, I am taking lessons and we worked on this yesterday. The other is the follow through. He had me make sure my arms kept the V all the way through my swing. Everything went straight. If I could consistently do this I would shoot in the 80s. That has yet to be proven as when I am at the range everything goes straight, on the course not so much. I just learned this move so the future looks bright.

Great!! This was Joe Dante's Magic Move. He set the wrist immediately and maintained it. The first time I tried this, I was sure I was going to drive the ball directly into the ground. I was wrong. I had simply played my whole life with an open club face, then flipping to square it at impact. I played some decent golf if my timing was perfect, but I'd follow a scrambling 78 with a dispiriting 95. I'm 63 and have played golf for 50 years and have quit and picked the game back up several times. Eric's wrist angle videos have helped me play my best, and more importantly, consistent golf ever. I have played my home course at least 700 times in the last ten years. However, I have hit my longest, straightest and best shots on every single hole in the last 50 rounds AFTER incorporating these ideas. Instead of moving up to the gold (senior tees), I have moved back to the blue tees from the whites. I can't recommend these videos or the Cogorno Golf subscription site enough.

This video, by itself, has altered my game in a positive way more than anyone I’ve viewed anywhere. I’ve shot 80 a couple times this year on a pretty tough course but actually broke 80 the day after watching this and applying it on the range beforehand. And it wasn’t so much that I broke 80 but it’s the way I struck the ball consistently which really had me and my playing mates impressed. Honestly if I was chipping better I would’ve shot in the low 70s. I’ve watched a lot of videos from very good teachers but yours are the clearest and understandable examples of golf swing mechanics that I’ve witnessed to date.

The last video on this helped to dispel any misconceptions on wrist hinge or just how to hit it straight in general and since then have been striking the ball a lot better! So anyone that was like me.. feel confident in this information and thank Eric for saving you loads of frustration later on. At first you may pull the ball but as this becomes second nature you'll straighten out. I even given this tip to struggling people on the course and their shots got better immediately. It's such a simple concept too and if more golf rookies learned this right away they'd skip that first 6 months of crappy striking lol.

Eric, I have seriously been struggling with my golf game for the past 4-5 months. I was shooting mid-eighties but after a lesson (was try to add some yardage) the pro strengthened my grip i could never get comfortable with my hands/wrists at the top. Since that lesson I have been shooting mid to high 90s and extremely frustrated with the game. After watching this video I went to the range this morning - weakened my grip back to neutral and concentrated more on my right wrist bending back instead of fighting the awkward feeling strong grip left wrist cup and Voila! I haven't struck the golf ball that well in a very long time. Thank you very much for creating this video!!

I'm 20+ years into playing golf, and the more I learn, the more I realize that the absolute FIRST thing anyone should learn when it comes to playing golf is the finer mechanics of the approach/impact/release. Assuming you've played any sport where you "swing" something, you don't need help on that part. Players need to understand exactly how to generate the proper lag and speed and impact in the golf swing. Once you get that, you can just figure out how to do that faster/harder for yourself. If you don't figure that out first, nothing else will truly make you better. I learned some really great course management skills that helped my scoring, but I always fought my poor ball striking. Eric's videos on the release and impact have, literally in a matter of weeks, changed my approach to the swing and my ball striking for the better.

I've been a 12-16 handicap for most of my life. I've had more lessons than probably one should take. But, today, i finally think all the lessons I've taken get the point across with your videos on the right wrist bent back because I didn't understand how the right hand worked in golf. I was always taught to keep the left wrist flat but i continued to have problems with loss of power because of casting. Thank you so much for theses videos. I can now practice drills called the P6 and understand the importance of the right hand staying bent and swinging to the left.

FANTASTIC video! I used this drill this summer to work on delivery and contact. It’s scary how much it helped. Also, for those that think they can’t “release” doing this, you do it for a bit you start hitting further and further shots. You hit a little harder and harder. Soon, you can’t hold off if you try. The momentum will make your wrists release. I noticed that doing these 3/4 “hold off” shots were not much shorter than my full swing. Most likely due to the solid contact.

Great video, thank you. My coach spent weeks trying to get me to bow my left wrist, focusing on a left wrist movement. I just couldn’t get it, and the left wrist just stayed cupped. Your idea of concentrating on the right wrist movement and the left will automatically get into the correct position is spot on. I can do it and it works. Don’t know why I could move one wrist correctly but not the other, the brain is a strange thing. Massive improvement in quality of balling striking.

My last lesson with my club pro was about holding a firm left wrist through impact, but it was something I was struggling to do. I asked him if it would be easier to try to keep the right wrist broken for as long as possible and this was better. I think the missing piece of my puzzle was the tip in this video about trying to keep the right hand facing towards the ground. Suddenly my ball striking has become much cleaner. One of the earlier comments disagreed with holding onto wrist angles to impact, but I think that the point here is to get the right feel. Unless you are immensely strong the correct release will just happen through clubhead momentum. Trying to make the release happen at the right time will just open up a whole new box of problems for most of us. It's not an instant fix, I think it will take a bit of work to eradicate the old movements, but it's getting better round by round. Best of all, this move has improved my pitching which was very inconsistent. Now it's well flighted, bang on line and distance control is fantastic.

Another great video. One of my problems is that at the top of my backswing my right hand wrist and arm tense up as my brain tells me get ready to hit the ball from the top. One way I overcome the urge to hit at the top is to absolutely relax and soften my right hand wrist and arm at the top (still keeping angles--extension and hinge) and trust that I will have power to hit ball solidly by turning my body into the ball. When it works it's wonderful!

Fookin’ great! One fault I’ve fought for a long time is - while I had good right wrist extension in my backswing ... I also unfortunately had way to much right wrist radial deviation as well ... resulting in making the top of my backswing way to long with all the associated bad side effects... since I watch several of your wrist conditions videos I’ve put in a lot of reps and have really made progress correcting right wrist radial deviation fault ... anyway just want to make this point so others who might have these 2 things happen don’t get frustrated ...

Great video and explanation! Couple questions: 1) Are you having more “feeling” of the hit in your left hand or right had through impact, 2) are you suggesting it’s ok to have open shoulders at impact? For a long time I’ve tried to keep closed or square at impact and not sure it’s the most consistent (sometimes creates a flip), and 3) still unsure how you get the club down to the ball with the wrist staying so bent that late in the downswing..? (right wrist bent keeps the club head from ever getting DOWN to the ball)
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 4 года назад
Thanks! 1. Right (for me) 2. Yes....average tour player is 10-30* open if you eliminate the protraction/retraction part of the shoulder. Ribcage well open. 3. Forward bend and right side bend of body to get down I explain #3 here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lbluc0YCwlE.html

I think putting pressure on the shaft or left thumb by the right palm helps set that right wrist at the top, and also is a preventative measure to not overdo or over extend the extension of the right wrist at the top (I also watched Eric's great video on over swinging in the backswing). I had a bad habit, once I figured out flexion/extension of the right wrist, of trying to extend the right wrist too much at the top, and therefore would sometimes throw off my timing as well as the clubface through the ball. Anyway, my two cents.

Hi Eric consciously bending back the right wrist to allow the lead wrist to either be straight or bowed at the top is well said and we all see professional players doing this for sure. However did you know that the trail elbow has direct radius and ulnar nerves endings that extends to the trail hand and wrist and the two must follow the directions of the trail elbow. Not the other way around. If you don't believe me try flicking your trail elbows at the transitional backswing to the right and see what happens to your hands and wrist not to mention the dreaded chicken wring and over the top swing. With this in mind my one swing thought is to ignore my hands altogether at the top of my swing and simply flick my magic trail elbow with controlled quickness to the left ( right handed players$ at the transitional part of my downswing. With this one move there is absolutely no conscious holding back my right wrist at all. My complete downswing finishes at a blink of an eye as it simultaneously give me perfect body response and connection to my ball every single time. At 72 the activation of my magic trail elbow to the left at the transitional part of my downswing is my secret weapon to great and consistent golf shots that I wish to share with everyone. Although you are surely great teacher and player of golf I truly hope you give it a try for yourself and let me know what you think. Shifting/Flicking the magic trail elbow to the left at the transitional top of the downswing works with every club and easily controllable on soft or a hard fast swing from a pitching wedge to a driver. Cheers

Thanks, Thomas for the message, feedback and info. I personally like to take advantage of the trail elbow/shoulder as well. I like to feel trail shoulder external rotation (which moved the elbow location) in combination with trail wrist extension, radial deviation and without excessive trail arm supination

Eric Cogorno Golf Thank you for validating my one and only swing thought. Shifting my trail elbow back on the backswing and then with deliberate quickness shifting my trail elbow forward on the downswing is so automatic, responsive, and precise. It truly is the secret of the pros and it is so easy to do, As a struggling golfer for 40 years I just want to shout it out to the world. Cheers

Nicely explained. .where are you based Eric..I taught my son from when he was 14 months old..I had him on full size clubs by the time he was 7..seven pro's had a look at him and said he needs to be fitted for clubs and to shorten his back swing..I taught him to have a massive back swing with full finish ..There were 2 pro' s who grasped what I was doing and said keep doing what your doing..William (my son)had all the shots at nine years old ..that was 5 years ago .. now my memory for the last 4 years has deteriorated and I can't show him anymore..Gutted...He needs someone who would be willing to work with what he has instead of changing him..his longest drive by the way is 360 yards measured by someone at west lance golf club..He has a great short game and is good at his putting..he is a good player with all his irons..he's been stagnant for 4 yes..I see truly great potential with this child..I don't know what to do..Regards David..

@CogornoGolf

Hey Chuck! You can! Try it and see if it helps you Some people I see who set right away get the club too far inside under plane in the backswing which causes an opposite reaction of steep coming down

Great videos. I watched one recently in which you address that whatever you do on the backswing will cause the opposite on the downs swing. If I tend to comedown with a cupped lead wrist should I exaggerate a right wrist bend at takeaway or should I take it back straight for a bent right wrist on the downs swing?

Hi Eric- Great job and always enjoy learning from your channel. Quick question that seems no one talks about regarding right wrist. My question is - Do you keep the pad of right hand palm against the thumb throughout the golf swing? I try to keep my hands loose, but noticed in a home video that my right hand palm pad floats a little away from left hand at top of swing to start of downswing. Not sure this is a dumb question, but like to know how firm should you keep hands together through the swing? Thanks!

I am a two handicap and I agree with most of Eric's videos. Especially about wrists and wrist angles. I disagree with this one as far as holding any angle into impact. The right wrist should bend back all the way through the backswing and unbend all the way through the downswing. This will help you get full extension at impact. This is where effortless power comes from.
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 5 лет назад
In literal terms there is no arguing that the right wrist will lose extension in the downswing. Of course we know this. The question is what do MOST people need to feel so that the right wrist is still in some amount of extension at impact (which all good players do) What if a player FEELS what I say and still does what you say?
@yelnikmcgwawa454
@yelnikmcgwawa454 5 лет назад
Eric Cogorno Golf I need to feel the release. I throw the heck out of it from the top of the backswing. Since the swing is a fully dynamic movement and the body is turning properly in sequence, it appears on video as though I’m holding the angle like you say but I’m actually doing the exact opposite. Point is that it is possible that you may be inadvertently creating a lot of blockers, late hitters, club-stuck-behind-ers with this lesson. The club cannot be placed in positions, it must move very fluidly through them at very high speeds. If a golfer tries to think and put the club in positions along the path, he or she will always be stuck. In this case, they will hit pushes and slices then they will try to cure by slamming the face shut at which point they will be wondering why they are hooking and pulling. Perhaps you should explain the importance of the release more.

@@yelnikmcgwawa454 wait you throw your hands at the top? That sound like a recipe for a high hook
@yelnikmcgwawa454
@yelnikmcgwawa454 4 года назад
phat nut sak yep - lower body pivot, arms drop down, hands throw release all in a dynamic fluid motion. Those are the feels. Looks very different on camera. Left wrist is flat at impact and releasing around the body (not down the line or from in to out). My miss is a 5-10 yard pull if I’m out of synch. Rarely do I hook or slice.
@joeperez3520
@joeperez3520 5 лет назад
Brilliant! If I'm right-handed, why not focus on utilizing my DOMINANT hand to get the lead wrist flat. Years ago I used to employ a TWO-Piece takeaway, like Johnny Miller did, having the club shaft parallel to the ground before my shoulders barely began to turn. I stopped because I fooled myself into thinking that it wasn't the "proper" way to swing the club. Time to go back to trying that.
