I received so many requests to cook a merienda recipe. So today, we are making my version of Ginataang Halo-Halo or Ginataang BiloBilo.
The ingredients are:
Coconut Cream
Ube
Kamote
Saging na Saba
Langka
Pandan Leaves
Fennel Seeds
Bilo-Bilo
Sugar

My favourite desert. I think it symbolizes the sweet resurrection of our Lord... originally, the ingredients are just root crops and banana..root crops comes up from the ground, and the banana resembles a caring hand of our Lord, the coconut, the fruit from the tree of life..then, people modified the recipe to make it more flavourful..

From what I remember, Landang is popular during Holy week because you will feel full and nourished by eating just one time during the day. Holy week is fasting, people can easily avoid meat by preparing landang. Thanks Mayor Richard for sharing this recipe.

we called it "Sampelot" here in Pampanga, we put additional ing. 2 types of kamote such as yellow and white, purple yam/ube, taro/gabi, and sago and tapioca , we put less saging and langka bcoz it's umaasim haha, and the secret of the Kapampangan version is we put some cheese, to balance the sweetness also richer the taste and more creamier, flavor taste enhancer kasi ang cheese bcoz of its saltiness

Snacks during recess time in canteen during elementary days and in high school when its harvest time - Binignit is the best to cook with all the rootcrops we harvest in the garden. 👌👌👍👍

I cook it straight in coconot milk or coconut cream. Then I cook the tapioca or sago separately in water first and add it towards the end. But your version looks yummy too.

sa tingin ko kaya famous pag holy week kasi maraming tao ang nasa bahay lang dahil walang pasok, eh pag nagluto ng ganyang pagkain buong angkan pwede makakain.. saka bonding ng pamilya pag hapon meryenda.. saka maraming time magluto ang mga nanay kasi summer wala pasok mga bata, walang mga assignments.. naalala ko noon taga bilog kami ng galapong.. buong compound namin sabay sabay kakain niyan 😊

I miss this benignet until now which we used to eat especially during All Souls Day in the Philippines.We easily get full since it is a heavy merienda. I am cooking this once in a while here in Down Under since our saba bananas are frozen. We can also buy the ingredients in the Asian Shop. Stay safe everyone.

Actually I don’t know how to make ginataan. Thank you for sharing your recipe. Good thing I have all the ingredients in my house and I am cooking while watching this video. I don’t have pandan leaf.

You were asking how come many people serve ginataang halo-halo during the holy week. Hailing from Pampanga, my mom used to cook deserts always, but mostly when people are home - holidays, long vacations, birthdays, etc. It's a time when a lot of people congregate at home and enjoy eating. The terno of ginataan is inangit (pampango term) made out of sticky rice and coconut milk and stirred thoroughly until cooked. I enjoy watching you cook! Lynn Bergendahl here from NYC

Yes po Kasi matagal po maluto ang tapioca. It takes an hour or more para maluto at mawala talaga yung puti.

Mas maganda po isabay iluto kasi un tapioca ang ngpapa sticky po.kaso dpt po para d matigas ang gitna mas una cya dpt ihulog kysa mga kamote.pero sabi n mayor masarap dw bka luto nman po cguro un gitna na hehe

I do the same, hiwalay ang tapioca, then add it last pag almost sticky na ang soup It’s better that way kc kung ilalagay nmn sya first sa boiling water, prang uubusin nia ung liquid/water

Great comfort food...not only on holy week but any day. Actually, I am cooking binignit right now. After watching your version, mine is almost similar. Problem is, we don't have ube at Sea Food City. So, I have to settle with purple yam... Lami Lang gihapon. I love your version. Gotta try your recipe next time....🥂👌🏽

Haskang lami a oi!!! Indeed binignit the best merienda during rainy season and holy week esp Good Friday dito sa visayas. No meat kasi pg holy week. Ang binignit kasi masustansya at nakaka busog. We mga bisaya also cook bico for holy week. Mga pamilya ngkakaisa walang work at nasa bahay lang. Luto ng binignit at bico at share sa mga neighbors kaibigan at relatives...happy Sunday Mayor Gomez at stay safe po kayo ng pamilya mo ☺

Very nice! I love the way you explain making this Ginataang Halo-halo Mr. Richard Gomez. I was actually looking for a recipe to make the best Filipino dessert lalo na ngayon na malamig parin ang panahon dito sa Canada.( April Spring/ Rain/ some hails and snow season). Although we dont get the same saaging na saba we use the african saging instead and for the langka, we dont have fresh ones here and we used the ones in can also with the gata, we used the coconut cream in a can but overall it will still have the same taste and feeling that im still in the Philippines! You should continue making cooking videos like this Mr. Comez and I just wanna let you know that I am impressed. I am a fan of both of you and your wife Ms. Lucy Torres. I will be making this for this weekend for my family. Thank you so much! Godbless and Stay safe and healthy.
