This is how I enjoy the hobby and how I have for the last 2 and a bit years. I'm sorry you don't agree but I just don't have an interest I watching the same scape for year on end. I know I'm more than capable of doing this as the hard bit is getting the tank established. That's the challenge. Ticking it over is a simple process imo. Obviously If I had unlimited space I could just leave tanks running indefinitely...currently, that isnt the case though is it :)

Hey, MD! Not familiar with the dimensions of your fish room. But I think you should go ahead with your initial idea. Swing that big tank to the side of the room. But then, get yourself a racking system which can act as a divider and can house around say 6 nano tanks? Then you'd get more tanks and multiple viewing angles. Just a thought. But you do you. Would continue watching either way. Love your videos!

Organic, free range worms... 😆 The fish in the Rainbow River, except for the Rainbows, are all Asian fish. Gotta say, not huge on you returning fish to the store. Fish get stressed with being moved and that can even kill them. Just not a fan of that being done.
@MDFishTanks

@MDFishTanks 4 года назад
As long as the fish are treated correctly and you arent running backwards and forwards with fish every week...I don't see the harm. If I had of said to you that I re homed the fish to my brother or friend...there would be no issue. This way, the small local store I take them to can make pure profit from them to keep the hobby going and put food on the table for their family...is this still a problem?? (bare in mind that I had these fish for 7 months as I got them back in the old studio)

Personally I was thinking that would be the tank to do your reef set up. You made the point that that tank in it's current position is an awesome backdrop no matter where you are in studio, so how awesome would it be to have a reef tank as the backdrop? Also, it would create a very cool divider in the room, having freshwater on either side and saltwater in the middle. Just my 2 pence worth :)

That's a bit of a hefty jump though to go to a massive reef tank like that?

Few ideas for the new scape: 1. A biotope with one super rare, spectacular fish species 2. Hi-tech heavily planted scape with proper planning of hardscapes etc, Lots of details. Like an IAPLC scape. 3. An arowana or sm exotic fish tank. Plants might be 🚫.

Rainbow river will be missed. What if the tank swing to the wall but have a stack of mini tanks with different coloured plants to replace the space as a room divider? One tank featuring red plants and another featuring pinks and purples that would look so cool. You still get light in the middle of the room, have a backdrop, and lots more tanks to explore!
@77slate
@77slate 4 года назад
Bye rainbow river 🌈💚 I love the tank as a divider as it gives you that different type of 360 scape, its a different challenge. I love gourami but wouldn't keep them with barbs as they are fin nippers. Gourami also are bubble nesting fish and labyrinths like beta so don't like high flow. The 3 island idea would be good for them as they are territorial. You could keep vlad with them, rasbora, danio, tetra, if you want livebearers mollies would work. Bottom crew you have the usual suspects but a yo yo loach would be cool. Barbs are awesome fish though I've kept most of them sawbwa barbs are neat but hard to find, I just wouldn't put the two in a community tank.
@Christodophilus
@Christodophilus 4 года назад
As an indoor plant enthusiast, it broke my heart to watch it come down. Now seeing the rainbow fish in the angle tank however, it made me realise, the river tank didn't really provide optimal viewing of the fish. So it was a good move to revamp. It's been a while since I kept them, but I loved my gouramis (reg Pearl's) and I would compare them to being like big Goldfish. Only with antennae on their chin. They dart quickly, then stop, dart...stop - move their antennae around. The males can get a little territorial when building bubble nests, but I found having lots of floating plants with long roots, prevented them from harassing tank mates.

Basically your river tank was Asian style. Keep the danio's, move the rainbows out of the angelfish tank. They look great, but ruin the South American theme. And i don't think limiting to asian plants limits you that much. Most of what you use is asian, expect valis and anubias. The angel tank is far form South America plantwise.

I used to be heavily into the hobby but life and other things got in my way and I shut down my last tank - a 125 gallon African cichlid tank 6 years ago. I’m presently growing out plants before getting back into the hobby and have been enjoying your channel since it started. The small bowl and vase aquariums just got me. I fell in love with the channel and the passion you exuded and continue to exude. I understand that the bigger tanks offer more possibilities but I wish you’d do some smaller ones more often. Unless you feel the challenge in those is gone. It would be interesting to have you talk about the channel and what you want it to be. I think it’s changed quite a bit from the beginning. Or maybe that’s just my feeling. The swiftness of changes to the tanks has surprised me. I expected a longer stay for any given tank. I did think with the new studio you’d let the tanks grow out and discuss how each was doing. I just find that they just get established. I want to watch them evolve and ... boom ... they’re gone. You have to do what you feel is best but I’d love to hear what you have planned from a strategic perspective. Are any fresh water tanks staying long term? Are you cycling each after 6 months? Etc. Thanks.

Any chance you could do a tank for spotted salamanders. Currently working on doing one for my daughter as she has two spotted salamanders like the newt tank you did as well

If you don't do an Asian tank, you could always make it into a large paludarium for turtles, or some other semiaquatic animals.

What if you make it a real island? Big sand beach with hermit crabs sloping down to a planted aquarium.

Idk what to do... I have water from another tank that I use.. I set up my new tank and no matter what I put in it, doesnt matter if it is cycled or not... everything dies in less than 24 hours

Leave the middle tank and put a big half circle tank in the space. It won't take away any view from the angel tank and the middle tank then 👍

Yeah dude, just get a tub and make a worm farm! Good way to get rid of table scraps too! I'd recommend buying red wigglers so then you can use the castings in your garden 👍 not sure what kind those ones you have are.

Maybe make the islands realy tall, like near the surface avatar style, and put loads of epyphites like buces and ferns on them.

I think a lot of people don't like the idea of taking fish back to the shop because of the fish's shortened lifespan from someone having kept them for a while.

Can you recommend a mail order shop for plants? You have inspired me to take the plunge into a planted aquarium.

Build a rack against the wall. You could then stack two tanks which are the same size as the one in the middle in that space. That or one big tank up top, three on bottom or whatever. Think a rack sort of thing would be the way to go to maximize space.
