It's possible a DIY person did oil changes in between the 'official' changes and didn't write them in the book. But no way of knowing, so you have to assume the worst. Not sure I'd have bought a car with such a spotty service history :(
2015 Prado at 294k. All but 1 of my services have been done by Toyota Dealers at around every 10k. I always leave the log book etc on the passenger seat or dash but have had a couple of times where there wasn't an entry in the book. I didn't check the book every time so didn't pick it up. I now check before leaving the yard.
I have had more bad luck. Same turbo whining - police siren - but at 113,300km on the clock for a 2013 1KD with a full regular service history from the same Toyota dealership. Ran the Toyota recommended Castrol full synthetic Magnatec 5W-40. The engine bay is clean. No major dirt road trips. No mods except for Kaon bash plates and a catch-can which I religiously check and service replace filter (only fitted it at 90,000km). Not even a set of spotties. The only thing I found is the MAP sensor filter was cracked.
same here, turbo fail at 110.000km, 2013 1kd hilux. Serviced every 10.000 km with fully syntetic 5w-40 oil, no dirt roads, almost all used as passenger car. Thrown p0046 code and entered limp mode, we removed the turbo and the variable vanes where toasted also the turbine had some damage... decided to change for a chinese turbo, because dealership said it would be a 3000 USD job, going aftermarket total cost 500 USD with new turbo. Usually would have gone with OEM turbo, but given that the OEM failed at only 110.000km, and the price difference went with the aftermarket one... we will see how it goes.
