Ruffed Grouse covers vary from spot to spot, depending on multiple factors. In this video I go through what I'm looking for depending on the area I'm hunting, the time of year and weather. Along the way I have some awesome dog work, but some sub par shooting!

I recently lost my fifth Brit and found your content. It’s helping me heal until I can find the time for another pup. Your love of your dogs is so apparent and the quality of the videos is exemplary.

Your grouse hunting videos are the best on the net. You hit some tough shots. I've been there and hit some hail Mary's and miss trail birds too.

I really enjoy your bird hunting videos. Would like to hear a little history on you and your dogs and guns you use. Your pretty successful when you hunt would like to know what got you there. Small video on you and your partners before a hunt would be nice. Keep up the videos their really great full of info. Thanks again.

Fantastic man! They just keep getting better and more refined. I love this one for so many reasons: the cover tutorial, continued awesome dog work and general demeanor you have in the woods on the hunt. We’d get along really well in the woods I’m sure. I do the same thing for dog less hunters, describing the entire experience. You have taken it to a new level with the video quality, editing quality, voice over narration. It’s obvious you are passionate about upland hunting in it’s entirety. The plus on the misses is you are giving great video footage of flushing birds which many don’t see for more than 2-3 seconds so there’s that! As you know, we all miss! I would so much like to get into more birds as my covers have all the ingredients but habitat encroachment is pressuring the populations. I have those same head scratch moments where you say “the only thing missing is the bird!” As Paul a Fuller “Bird Dogs Afield” likes to quote “Birds are where you find them”. Keep up the great work. Love seeing such a dedicated young ambassador for upland hunting. 👍🏻👏🏻. When you hunt those big Aspen stands with the trails do you generally do an out n back, retracing your “out”. It’s such big cover. Not used to that in southern NH, ME. Need to get up to northern parts of the states. Thanks, Daren

Truly appreciate that Daren! I am trying to put a different spin on some upland content that's currently out there. I'm happy to hear you've noticed a few of those things. I normally don't run in and out of a spot the same way unless its linear cover in one direction. Mostly I make a big circle or loop around a section. Again, thanks for following along!

@@UplanderLifestyle Same here. My dad always taught me to try and hunt in and hunt out til the hunt is done. Sometimes doubling back yields results. I’ve found myself in exact footprints and put up birds :30-1:00 later.

Very nice video. I love the narration about habitat, I'll take that information on our annual trip to the U.P. That trail bird miss at 28:15 hurts, I know, I've been there. BTW, nice hold and retrieve to heel by both your dogs, good training pays off.

An outstanding hunting video on it own. But adding the analysis plus self criticism and dad disappointment makes this just over the top. Great job. I don't hunt with a dog but intend to as i age so the thought process here is very helpful. It also shows newer hunters how we are always thinking in the woods; if youre not thinking then you will get caught unprepared. By You I clearly mean Me. Looks like you have the auto for Woodcock and Double for Grouse? Lastly, if you can, throw in some crop digestion in a video; i like to see what they have been eating.
@UplanderLifestyle
@UplanderLifestyle 2 года назад
Thanks Jim! Glad you enjoyed the video. I use both guns for either species, whatever I feel lie carrying for that day or walk. I usually just target grouse and still run into a few woodcock here and there because their habitat overlaps. Appreciate the feedback on the crop, will have to incorporate that this fall!

You guys hunt northern lower or the u.p. for grouse. Don't worry about the misses we all have those days the dogs give us dirty looks

I'm curious: Why do you decide to switch between guns in the middle of a hunt? It would take a lot for me to move away from a SxS.
@UplanderLifestyle
@UplanderLifestyle Год назад
They both have the same LOP, and I shoot both guns equally well. So its usually pretty easy to switch between the two seamlessly. The semi is my 'Sunday Funday' gun.

@UplanderLifestyle

I'll always give the dog the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes where the dog goes is just not the same line I wanted to run. But she got birdy so I followed... If she didn't get birdy I would have reeled her back in and worked her down the line I originally wanted to work down. I didn't say I didn't miss....
