I have been pitching the idea of expandable boards to companies for years and nobody saw the point, but one company finally had the same idea and did it extremely well.

Nice take as always, Henning. That's actually not a bad price for a really clever idea. I'm sure I'm not alone in hitting the buffers where pedal combinations don't quite fit on standard boards. This isn't something I need right now, but it's genuinely useful to know the option is out there.

The bigger pedal board is my favorite. It is expensive, but it is in a high quality and I like the flexibility. I think this could be my next pedal board... 🤘

Dammit Henning, I thought you were going to tear this apart so I wouldn't want it. Obviously the idea is great, but I'm glad the execution and build quality is there. Especially like the cable management pieces! Realistically I think I would start with the small one because I like piecing together little boards for jams with friends, BUT if I decide that I am changing my big board more, i will consider the biggie. I scored a deal during lockdown on a PT Pro with soft case so I don't have much reason to change. That being said, once again, I looove the cable management that I don't have with my PTs. Shit.... I want the little one at least :D

I love the little one which I can set to fit in a 19" rack beneath my desk - if only it was a bit higher, it would fit more types of power supplies underneath it. Was glad to not pay for a case which I don't need.

I have both the big and small ones. I really dig them. I didn’t get cases for either one yet as I did cough at the cost of the cases but I may if I start lugging them around. Right now they are just being used at home. I thought the price for just the board part was pretty reasonable. The cases I wish were cheaper

I'm not seeing the price being very far off. Large board and case are a little over $300. Friedman board kits (can't get full kits anymore) were $300+ IIRC. I recently bought a HoleyBoard kit for $200 and while it's expandable it takes considerably more effort to change.

I made a pedal board out of wood to work with 4 cable method. I have these TRS female/female couplers on the board so that all 4 cables from a snake go into the board in the same spot. If I were to swtich to something like this I'd have to do something similar or I'd have to cut back the cable snake sheathing so the cables could go to 4 different places on the board.

Will the velcro hold a DC7 over time? Anytime I've velcro'd a power supply, including my old Cioks DC5 under a board, the glue would eventually pull loose from gravity and the power supply would fall off.

It's a really cool design. But for me, i prefer a double layer model. My Nux bumblebee-L is perfect. Small enough to travel with and enough real estate for more pedals than i ever need. I don't use too many pedals on stage though.

Ok, D'Addario you need to look beyond your worries about critique and opinion and be confident in the quality of your product. I have been wanting to buy it. Keep reading D'Addario. Thank you, Henning, there is no product reviewer like you, you are as refined as they come. I don't want to buy crap and I don't want to try every piece of gear out there. You address the obvious, you expand into experience and practice, which equals refinement. Now if only D'Addario would read this.

A board could be designed with separate parts that you could extend and if you want create separate tiers. It could hold perhaps 6 pedals in its smallest form or even a hundred by extending both in latitude and vertically. It could be designed to fasten together using easy to source nuts and bolts that are replaceable at Home Depot or equivalent. Rubber washers could be common size tap washers. Feet would use standard size ones used for amps & cabs. In short with very little pricey specialized parts simply small metal panels. The maker would never run out of buyers.

Seems like a decent idea I guess but once you start stressing the high price from the beginning of the video- I already know it's not for me. It makes no sense to spend huge money on some fancy pedal board all so you can jam in the bedroom- which is all I do anymore. I'm sure it's a great solution for guys who are still gigging though.

The concept is okay if you don't want to dismantle a board to use the same pedals in a bigger/smaller board set-up. The drawbacks for me are that: 1) The board still has to have the patch cables & power ready for an expansion, even when not in use, if you are using different size boards in different circumstances/gigs. 2) Unless you have the pedals already with you, you can't just increse the size of the pedal board quickly while on the road. Since you are already carrying the pedals, why not leave them on a larger board? The only real advantage is for those who don't have many pedals yet and don't want to buy a bigger board when they do have more.
@stoneysdead689
@stoneysdead689 Год назад
Yes, you could put them all on one board and just leave it be but- now you've got a lot of impedance between you and the amp or- you've had to add solutions- buffers, noise gates, possibly shielding, etc. Much easier to just use a smaller board and now you don't need buffers, you don't need a noise gate, and you usually don't require any shielding. Not to mention that now when I look down during a live show I'm not like "Now where's that reverb pedal again..." I know exactly where it is because there's only between 4-6 pedals on my board at any one time. Also- no idea why but fans don't like to see someone with 30 pedals arrayed out in front of them- it gives them the impression that you need technology to prop up your playing. I know that's a bit silly but it's true- I've heard multiple fans talk about it, multiple times, at different shows. When I'm setting up my gear on stage- we don't have roadies, we're not that good- I always listen to the ppl closest to the stage- they're usually talking loudly because it's crowded, they want to hear one another- so if you just try a little you can hear their conversation. Several different times that conversation was about how many pedals I was using, and the prevailing consensus was that too many pedals equal someone trying to fake it. Now I disagree completely but- it's about the fans- right? If they want raw, unproduced, rock and roll then that's what we tried to give them. BY the time I stopped gigging I had I think 3 pedals- boost, reverb, and delay. Occasionally I would sneak in a wah though that was a multi effect pedal- sneaky. The Boss PW-10 V-Wah modeling pedal- it's an amazing pedal man- does so much.
