Mr. Johnson, a school bus driver, takes wayyyy too much interest in his passengers in this safety video from 1985. Sponsored by Little Debbie.
Remember, "Little Debbie has a snack for you."
This was aired on WSOC on a Sunday afternoon due to a delayed baseball game. They didn't air the ending, so we'll never know if Mr. Johnson received counseling for his alcohol problem.
The kids arrived safely at school at 11:45 a.m.

I think I did see the whole episode on TV that early morning. I do remember seeing more after the kid accidently spilled the bottle of bubbles all over the aisle.

If you actually work on a bus like me.. another great video that has every bit of info for safety look up "Winny the Poo school bus safety" for the little ones and for 3rd grade look up "Be Cool, school bus safety", they are great videos

that's great-- this was also taped off of an ABC affiliate when a ballgame was rained out. I remembered seeing it in school years before... would love to have the whole thing on tape.

I never would've imagined that school buses had crossing arms way back then. They didn't start showing up in NJ til the late 90's.

I understand what you mean. Too bad a video store don't have it or a local library. This could also have originally aired (I am only guessiing) on a PBS station as well to educate kids about school bus safety.

I honestly do not remember the conclusion of the film; however, I think they did show a segment where he dropped them off at school, but I am not positive. Too bad I didn't have a VCR at the cabin, I could have recorded the fllm, and watched it when I went back home.

YEs it was on regular television. It aired around 5:30 AM on Saturday July 15 to be exact on the date. IT was on one of the local stations such as ABC or NBC

it was sheer luck i got this much on tape. i found it listed on some school library website but they won't lend it out-- bummer.

its scary driving as there r nasty drivers. who knows good drivers can wait and patient and others not so much and honk hurry up or worse drive over person

How does it end? I always imagined Mr. Johnson having a total meltdown and holding the kids hostage on the bus before the whole thing ends with him taking his own life. The final shot being a blood splattered box of Little Debbie Star Crunch.
