Some people seem to be erroneously over generalizing this into thinking a low-fat vegan diet is necessary for a healthy vegan or even ideal. It is my understanding this study did not compare different types of vegan diets such as a low-fat versus high-fat or just normal fat vegan diet. Also it's my understanding that these cohorts were supplementing fatty acids such as omega-3s and didn't compare different sources of omega-3s. Also not all fats are the same. Someone consuming Animal fat will very likely have different results than someone on a vegan diet consuming the same amount of fat from nuts, seeds, oils, avocados, and algae-based omega-3s. These fats are different and will have completely different results. Remember there's different types of saturated fats such as palmitic acid, stearic acid, myristic acid, lauric acid, capric acid, etc. And then of course there are polyunsaturated fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6, and monounsaturated fats like oleic acid or omega 9, palmitoleic acid, nervonic acid, etc. So don't get carried away and over generalize this into thinking you need to be on a low-fat diet and not consume healthy fats from nuts, seeds, olives, avocados, and even oils.

What's extra cool about this, beyond the fact that a plant-based vegan diet can help with so many health concerns, is that it is being said on mainstream media, and they even used the word "vegan."

Yes, and Mic the Vegan breaks it down even further. The exercise was like 30 minutes of walking a day. His take away from looking over the research was nutrition was the biggest factor. It's hard to parse out though since they did implement multiple variables.

Go vegan for your health, whole food plant based. Go vegan for the animals. Go vegan for the planet. Go vegan and be healthier and happier. A lower risk of heart disease and cancer for you and a better planet for everyone, human and animals. Eating healthy is not a diet it is a healthy life style. Go out and look around. The vast majority of people you see are obese or al least over weight. People do not need to be fat shamed BUT being over weight is not healthy and leads to a host of illnesses. When you look around you can see all the unhealthy people without taking a blood test or a fitness test "NORMAL" for the average American is "UNHEALTHY" The health of society is in decline.

The miracles of veganism. When I dropped dairy products after I turned vegan 20 yrs ago, my goitre disappeared within the first 2 weeks. I couldn't believe it cause it had been gradually growing for many years & actually become the size of a golf ball. I know it isn't Alzheimer's, but I haven't been to a doctor since which blows my mind.

Yeah it's unbelievable all of the issues people develop that end up disappearing after going vegan. I have a series of interviews I've done with different restaurant owners from a recent two and a half week long run of interviews. I was just stopping at restaurants in between interviews doing quick interviews with the owners and I started noticing a pattern real quick that each restaurant had a different success story that galvanized them into starting the restaurant! I can't wait to release those 🙂

According to some stuff I have seen, I think it was from Neil Barnard, on RU-vid, you can avoid cognitive decline and alzheimers with a low fat whole foods plant-based diet.

I'm not sure a "low fat" vegan WOE is necessary. Dr. Nagra recently posted a video about oil being advantageous I think for those with APOE4 if I recall correctly. I don't know why a low fat vegan diet would be advantageous as long as it's a well planned, whole food vegan diet I assume healthy fats from nuts, seeds and even oils would be fine and even protective.
@VeganLinked
@VeganLinked 3 месяца назад
And to clarify, this study did use a low fat vegan diet but in respect to you saying "avoid cognitive decline..." this study didn't compare a healthy low fat vegan diet to healthy normal or even high fat vegan diet as far as I'm aware and it wasn't to avoid the onset of cognitive decline in healthy people but instead reverse cognitive decline in those with mild cognitive issues. That's my understanding of it anyways...

@VeganLinked Some fat is good, even necessary. Low fat doesn't excite me, that's for sure. However, the issue with oil is that it triggers inflammation caused by free radicals, which are the result of oxydization. Plus, there is the omega 3 to 6 disruption (way too much 6 is bad for hormones and other things that I can't remember atm) So getting our far from whole foods like seeds, nuts, avocados skips the inflammation part, which is a good thing. Having said all that I do loves my olive oil precious 😅 🫒

@@teagoldleaf4137 it's easy to get a good ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 and consume olive oil. You're making a lot of empirical claims that aren't really backed up by science. I have interviews with cardiologists like Dr Kim Williams, Dr Joel Kahn, etc that are very current and on top of the science and there doesn't seem to be any support for demonizing oil as part of a healthy diet for a healthy person. And even people like Dr Nagra have made it clear with very current scientific evidence that oil is fine. Even Bryan Johnson who has spent millions upon millions with a team of 30 doctors to analyze all 78 organs over the course of years includes a significant amount of oil on a daily basis in his diet. Nick the Nutrivore has a good read on oil for you if you really want to catch up on it a bit www.the-nutrivore.com/post/a-comprehensive-rebuttal-to-seed-oil-sophistry You can also see some current science on Dr Nagra's channel on this topic. I haven't started consuming oil yet consistently but I do plan on making it a part of my daily routine. I will be releasing a video Friday with Mic the Vegan and we talk about oil and we break it down pretty nice, I really appreciate his perspective on it. Like anything, healthy things in moderation and serving size, and of course if somebody has issues with their weight or some health issue then that particular person may need to avoid oils but that's not a good message for healthy people who have healthy habits. A lot of the fear-mongering around oil comes from people like Dr Esselstyn because of very limited studies or because they are working with very sick people and then those were hyper over generalized by people like Jeff Nelson who has been a bit of an out of control quack. Even organizations like the National Health Association that I highly respect but at the same time understand that they've made claims that aren't necessarily backed by science, or maybe they're just too close to the Cleveland clinic. Ironically though when I interviewed Dr Kim Williams it was at the NHA conference. You can see my interview with him on my channel here. I think it was the last one I released last year.

@@teagoldleaf4137 I can provide studies like this all day long Several studies have supported the consumption of olive oil to reduce cardiovascular risk. Here are three significant studies with summaries: ### 1. **PREDIMED Study (Prevención con Dieta Mediterránea)** **Summary:** The PREDIMED study is a landmark randomized controlled trial conducted in Spain that evaluated the effects of a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil or nuts on cardiovascular health. The study included 7,447 participants at high cardiovascular risk, who were assigned to one of three groups: a Mediterranean diet with extra-virgin olive oil, a Mediterranean diet with nuts, or a control group following a low-fat diet. **Findings:** - The group consuming extra-virgin olive oil showed a significant reduction in the risk of major cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular death) by approximately 30%. - The beneficial effects were attributed to the high content of monounsaturated fatty acids and polyphenols in olive oil, which improve lipid profiles and reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. ### 2. **EPICOR Study (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition)** **Summary:** The EPICOR study is part of the larger EPIC cohort, focusing on the relationship between diet and cardiovascular disease. This prospective cohort study examined 40,142 Italian participants over an average follow-up period of 10 years. **Findings:** - Higher consumption of olive oil was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease. - Participants consuming more than 29 grams of olive oil per day had a 35% lower risk of cardiovascular mortality compared to those consuming less than 13.5 grams per day. ### 3. **Lyon Diet Heart Study** **Summary:** The Lyon Diet Heart Study is a randomized secondary prevention trial that investigated the effects of a Mediterranean-style diet on recurrent heart disease. The study included 605 participants who had survived a first heart attack. **Findings:** - The intervention group following a Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil had a 70% lower risk of recurrent heart disease compared to the control group following a typical Western diet. - The study highlighted the role of olive oil in improving endothelial function, reducing inflammation, and providing antioxidant benefits, all contributing to cardiovascular health. These studies collectively underscore the positive impact of olive oil consumption on reducing cardiovascular risk, largely due to its monounsaturated fats, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Much less, this does not reflect how much fat a healthy vegan should be consuming. Also these people were supplementing fatty acids.

Please don't misconstrue this. This did not compare a low-fat Vegan diet to a normal or high fat vegan diet. And this has nothing to do with whether or not healthy vegans should be consuming a certain amount of fat. Jeff Nelson is not a good source of information. It's not a good idea to harshly over generalized things.
