Ironically his autobiography is one of the most candid self effacing and most interesting reads I've come across. The thing is i suppose everyone has at least one good book in them and its usually an autobiography where you can be honest so i suppose he would have trouble writing fiction or another story like Ben Elton. I loved how he brought down the whole Muslim community in one night when the top Arab generals went to see his show and said they were all hypocrites & greedy liars. Great stuff!
Just got back from seeing Akmal, he told the full Rockhampton story hahaha The word wasn't actually "cock" Something beginning in the same letter hahaha ;)
The only time I went to Rockhapton, I was hitch hiking. The cops searched me, picked me up & dropped me to the other side (1988) Nice to see things haven't changed much ;)
damn that was sooo entertaining, especially all the dissing on Rockhampton he said. and i should know, i used to live there! what a hole.. for those who've never been to Rockhampton in Australia, heed this warning, you'll be disappointed. it's nothing but a hole. thumbs up everyone who agrees!! =)
Apparently the mayor of Rockhampton said that Akmal disgraced himself on this show however after doing a corporate gig he was in the front row and Akmal made a friend with him so he was ok by the mayor but I don't blame him if he never wants to go back to Rockhampton again I can imagine the women are quite neanderthal there.
I was born and bred in Rocky and nothing about this story surprises me. I now live in Townsville and saw Akmal perform live a few years back and he told the whole story about how him and his mates went to the Rocky show and jumped on the kids plane ride dressed as terrorists and thats how the whole thing kicked off...
i went to his show in gosford and he mentioned the rockhampton incident and the whole story about him and friends thinking it would be hilarious to dress as arabs on a kids plane ride and his friend not backing him up when he got punched.
i think australia has a national akmal quota that it cant exceed for fear of what he might say, he is often in ads for stuff that they dont feature him in
his book is going for $35 in Dymocks. If the book wasn't so damned expensive i probably would have bought it. I thought his 280 shovels in 280 cartons was hilarious. It just goes to show he had adjustment problems & I'm sure he had ADD because he was bored with menial type work & alot more witty than the other robots on the job. He questioned Christianity & prefers discussing issues with Monty python than philosophizing with any clergyman. His first ad as 18yr male needed for work was a riot.
@lyco46 It hasn't aired in other counties because Australians enjoy a different type of comedy and I myself love good news week its one of the funniest shows out there besides every one has there own opinions on comedy

Maybe there is a slight, tiny, minuscule, microscopic chance that my comments will be read by some TV producer who will be inspired to actually make shows that are, you know, funny. D. @MelovElmo In theory, it should be. But there is a flaw; it is assumed that Comedians are funny, which Akmal is not (Paul McDermott isn't exactly funny either). It all serves to prove the greater point; Australia has a severe comedy deficit. Were this not the case, GO!, 7Mate and other channels would not have to rely so heavily on american and british imports.
@lyco46 no it hasent aired in other countries because it's AUSTRALIAN humour, and no one else would get it. and come on, chill. as another guy said: if you don't like it don't watch it! people came here to have a good laugh, and it's people like you that ruin it. you go back to your shows and well go back to ours
