Welcome to another episode of The Mind Shift Podcast where we dive deep into the intricacies of cultural trends, personal struggles, and the ever-present battle between good and evil. In today’s episode we unpack a diverse range of topics all around the idea of the complexity of good and evil and how those things manifest themselves in our modern culture.
The Nuances of Current Cultural Trends
Today's conversation begins with a reflection on the current cultural landscape, discussing everything from the geopolitical tension in the Gaza strip to the latest in sports and entertainment. We also touch upon high-profile events like Trump's indictments, highlighting how these developments influence our perception of justice and morality.
Exploring Dark Themes in Culture
Our dialogue takes a darker turn as we examine the influence of figures like George Soros and the role of conspiracy theories in shaping public opinion. We share anecdotes about encounters with spiritual darkness, from exorcism to the consumption of dark-themed art and music. This leads us into a robust discussion about the necessity of guarding one's mind and soul from negative influences.
Gender Identity and Cultural Reflections
A particularly poignant part of our conversation revolves around issues of gender identity, transgenderism and self-loathing. We don’t often talk about this topic but it's a tragedy that we think that caring for children is reinforcing the their self loathing, rather than teaching them to love themselves.
Concluding Thoughts on Good vs. Evil
We conclude our episode by reflecting on the fundamental nature of good and evil. This discussion encapsulates our belief that despite the pervasive presence of evil, it is crucial to foster empathy, positivity, and a deep sense of personal responsibility. We discuss the balance between these forces, not just in society at large, but in our personal lives and spiritual beliefs.
Thank you for tuning into Mind Shift. We hope today's episode inspires you to reflect on how you can actively choose the good in your life, shaping a reality that embraces both light and darkness with wisdom and courage.
Join us next time as we continue to explore the complexities of human experience and the transformative power of shifting our minds towards greater understanding and empathy.

Love the two of you and your conversations, thanks for inviting us in. 26:33 (self-loathing being experieniced by children), 47:33 (good vs evil are no longer the product of an individual's personal choices). So many thoughts here. I think of the Jewish notion of Yetzer HaTov and Yetzer HaRa, thoughts presented in one's mind to be accepted or rejected by the individual - a real battleground of spiritual warfare. The children's TV host Mr Fred Rogers (an ordained minister) really illuminates this idea in "What do you (with the mad that you feel)" see his 1969 appearance on Capitol Hill & his recitation of the lyrics concluding his testimony, and later conversations about "gender" ("everybody's fancy") on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, or his induction into the TV Hall of Fame. All on RU-vid, very eye-opening regarding your discussion today.

This is my second time around listening and watching this episode. One of the best episodes yet. So many pieces of amazing thought. The exhale and inhale of God 😮. Evil is the attack on innocence 😮. I remember Pres Bush citing evil which lead to the “Axis of Evil”. Amazing.

Also delivering this with love on the subject of all of the weighty speculation and conspiracy theory adjacent talk going on in this podcast --- 1Timothy 1:4-6 "Or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God's work---which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk."

For me, when I travel out of US "Good/Evil" in the spiritual realm is easier to discern. Here evil is called good and good is evil. Just walking around some cities I feel surrounded by spiritual zombies not hot not cold. This conversation is a needed mess Mil gracias a los dos

I loved the concluding discussion on functioning in society vs. bringing value to society. Something that I thought about during that discussion is the fact that just functioning in society isn’t sustainable. There’s only so much your mind and soul can take just being a cog in the wheel until you feel like you have to create influence. (Hopefully a positive influence rather than a negative one.) It’s almost as if bringing value to others exerts an inward energy we all need to release. Curious to hear both of your thoughts on this.

This podcast is always thought provoking isn't it? So grateful for them bringing it to us. Don't know if this fits at all with your thoughts, but I have been feelingd "Gratitude is not evidenced without Generosity" (which means I would suppose an outward expression of positive energy to others).

It seems the term "energy" is being used in different ways. The first way "energy" is being used by Erwin is to refer to potential and power according to my interpretation of his initial thought on energy.. Erwin: "If all I believe was energy and I wanted to live beyond my last breath. If I am the sum total of all my energy." Energy in this first sense is about what I am *able* to do. He then uses "energy" to refer to the tangible results that come from expending energy when he says, "It means everywhere my energy moves the world forward; it is an extension of me." He then goes on to explain this second definition of "energy" to refer to the legacy that's left that is either perceived as good or evil. I think the metaphor of energy to God doesn't quite fit in the way "energy" is being used in this conversation. An example would be money being a type of energy. I can use money to buy food for those in hunger or I can use money to hurt those in hunger. The end *result* of how the money was used doesn't equal to the money or *resource* used to do good by feeding the hungry or doing evil by hurting the hungry. Simply put, energy is a resource, how it's used, whether good or bad, is the result of the investment of energy/resources. To say that the results/legacy/good or bad of me, are an extension of our being doesn't follow the explanation given about energy.. All this to say, God is not energy- at least in the way it is being defined here. Even if I were to grant that God is energy, the results of what God/energy does is not intrinsically an extension or part of the identity of God/energy.

"He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction. Ecc 3:11-13 NIV God created us with a longing for eternity in hearts. Where can we find eternity in this plane of existence limited to time, space, and matter? Eternity is no where to be found in this universe. Thus we reach for that which is unseen- God, who gives and clarifies purpose, meaning, and a revelation of how life was meant to be lived.

@israelnitta

@@nardojackk I'm curious to hear how you interpreted Erwin's early use of energy. I also am not sure how a middle school definition vs a high school definition vs a college definition would affect what energy actually is.

And last thing, saying that Taylor Swift is doing a "wicca service" during her concerts is totally unfair. Is Macbeth or the Wizard of Oz bad? When they say "double double toil and trouble" in "Macbeth" is that a wiccan service or just a play? Is it words written by Shakespeare being acted out by actors or something else? It's a performance. It's the same with a song written by Taylor swift and played out by performers during a very small part of a two hour set full of mostly love and fun. Yes, she also wrote the part where darkness exists in the world and that was performed for a song. Like a movie or a play. The fear being stirred up at the idea of a performance more creates the problem as opposed to there being a problem.

@@aaroncmcmanus Why would I hold Taylor Swift to the same standard when you are different standard bearers? You bear the standard of Christ...the most powerful standard in the universe. So yeah, I'm not looking for the same out of both of you. I also don't hold Martin Scorsese movies to the standard I hold my pastor and church. Better question: why are you wanting to be held at that standard?

And if I were trans, the way that you guys talk about it would make me feel unsafe and unwelcome in Christ. It's literally a discussion about Good vs Evil. To be clear, trans people are welcome in God's house. God loves them, too. Jesus died for them and deeply loves them. As much as you and me. And it is by faith and grace that we are saved. Faith and grace are the ticket home.

to back up this very weird comment- trans people have come to mosaic and felt safe, felt loved, felt engaged. I find it odd you didnt quote scripture here?
@douglasfager735
@douglasfager735 3 месяца назад
@@aaroncmcmanus It's really not. It's pretty simple math, brother. On a podcast with the title of Good vs. Evil you have to be very careful how you discuss people otherwise you are painting them as evil. I know you know how subtext works. And when you make something evil you allow somebody to feel justified in hating them. And there are plenty of people in the Christian community that hold hate towards trans people; hate that is even more dangerous to the spirit of the holder than the one it is held against.
