@@runshouse Point taken. And yes, I saw it at the time but that was just Ben and at the time nobody cared. I mean, Kevin Smith fans cared, but that was a pretty small group of people. Ben Affleck didn't even have the cache that Jason Mewes had at the time. So I'll stand by my point that Ben and Matt were nobodies until Good Will Hunting. Even they'll admit it. Have you ever heard them talk about how the developed the script and how they knew it'd only get made if they could write a part for a star? They were talking about Robin's part, not theirs.

Yes! I've always thought that Chucky was the hero in this movie more than Sean. It was Chuck's idea to go to the Harvard bar to begin with. And, Chuck gave Will a way to leave (the car) and, most importantly, he gave Will permission to leave. He gave him permission by checking him on his loyalty, basically saying that if you're loyal to me, and you care about me, and you love me, you will leave: escape from here for me.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have actually been friends since age 8. Both of them are highly intelligent individuals, so its no wonder the two of them came up with an Oscar-winning original script like this. Ben had almost perfect SAT scores in high school, even though he was often absent and mostly uninterested. Matt studied at Harvard for a while, though eventually dropping out to pursue his acting career. Combining this script with a legendary performance by Robin Williams make this easily one my favorite movies of all time.

The brilliance of the “it’s not your fault” scene is every time he says it he breaks through one of Will’s emotional barriers until eventually Will has no defenses left and lets his real emotions out. Brandon, here is some Robin Williams films to check out: Dead Poet's Society, Good Morning Vietnam, and the Fisher King. 1997 was a great year for film. You also have As Good As It Gets (which is my favorite film of all-time), Titanic, LA Confidential, and Wag the Dog (smart political drama with Dustin Hoffman and Robert DeNiro).

The Van Gogh reference reminded of this joke: A thief tried to steal the paintings at the Louvre in Paris. He was caught two blocks away when he ran out of gas. He said, “I had no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van Gogh. But I tried because I had nothing Toulouse.”

This movie is just one of those all-around amazing "success" stories. Ben and Matt were friends long before, they co-wrote this script trying to make it in Hollywood, it became a sensation, they won the Oscar for best original screenplay, and this movie by all accounts "put them on the map". Obviously, they've taken different paths (Matt with acting more, Ben with producing/directing), but this movie was essentially their calling card. Robbin Williams (who is brilliant in this) just lent an air of credibility and was icing on an already great script/story.

I enjoyed watching your reaction to this movie. Its one of my favorite Robin William's roles. The end had me in tears when he says "Its not your fault". Have you ever watched the movie What Dreams May Come? If not, I would HIGHLY recommend it. Its beautiful.
