Every word out of Robin Williams mouth In this scene is completely true. I've always loved this movie but even more so In the past 2 months. My Fiancé passed away on January 15th this year completely unexpectedly due to complications from her cancer. She had just had her tumor removed a few months prior and she really seemed to be doing good. All of a sudden she's really sick one day and just feeling like shit so we go to urgent care, they admit us to the hospital, and within 12 hours she was gone. The way Robins character describes the feelings he had for his wife are the exact same feelings I had for my Fiancé. If it weren't for that girl, I would not currently be here writing this. She came into my life a month before I was planning on taking my life after 10+ years of fighting and losing to depression/bipolar disorder. She breathed new life into me and showed just how much beauty there can be in this world. Made me feel things I didn't know a human being could ever feel. Pure, raw, unrelenting, unyielding love. We were both impossibly, madly, head over heels in love with one another and that love only grew with each passing day. She was my reason for living. Even on my worst days, I always knew that she would be at home waiting for me and that was more than enough to outweigh even my darkest, saddest, most hopeless feelings. Now that she's gone I'm impossibly lost and confused. I feel like someone who has been in an accident of some sort and has to learn to walk all over again. Our lives were so intertwined and we were together so often that just about everything I do throughout the day is now different as I am so used to doing it with her. Even the most simple things such as brushing my teeth constantly remind me of the countless nights she would be next to me laughing, joking, and playing around. You miss the little things sometimes more than anything else. Inside jokes, silly nicknames, things you would do/say to one another. You become so used to it that when it's suddenly stripped away from you all at once, it shakes you to your core. I know I'll never get over this and I wouldn't want to. The best I can hope for is that I am able to go on and lead a happy successful life to make her proud. I miss you more than words can explain. love you more than you'll ever know baby girl ❤️

I love how this relationship was a two way street. He was brought on to help the kid, and most movies this would be all about how the therapist helped save his life and taught him how to live. But it turned out, they needed each other. They challenged each other in a way that no one else could both emotionally and intellectually. Little scenes like this where you get the overwhelming feeling that Sean knows it all and has the perfect insight, only to have it instantly turned around on him to highlight his own issues. Brilliant.

I was lucky enough to have a therapist like this for several years. She wasn't afraid to be who she was during our sessions, and would often frame things in a purely psychological sense openly, while at the same time relating her own perspectives and experiences. She even knew me well enough that sometimes she would counsel me with sarcasm, because she knew it would hook me. She would bait me into describing the opposite perspective of the negative situation she had just laid out, and in doing so prompt me to counsel myself, in a way. It's hard to describe, but she was amazing. But when I moved further away from her practice, I switched. And you know what, just writing this prompted me to google her, and she is still practicing at the same office. I think I might call her again. Wow. Thanks internet, that's actually a fucking crazy turn of events...

When you are in a relationship, there are times its not fun, its not happy. but that doesn't mean its stop there, as bob marley would said. "Everybody would hurt you no matter what, you just gotta find one worth suffering for. @piercecooke9649

It’s actually an angle that a lot of therapists take when approaching young men. Most problems I see with my friends and even in myself as we grow up stem from incorrect parenting. I don’t resent my parents, I mean, fuck, that’s a hard job, but it doesn’t mean you can’t acknowledge that they made mistakes and find someone else to fill the gaps. Projection and incorrect emotional support create a young adult that doesn’t know how to look after their own psyche, I think boys get this worse because they’re supposed to be “tough”. When my therapist asked me who taught you how to be a man? I think what he was really probing at was did anyone ever teach you the mental fortitude to take on life, because obviously you’re struggling, and I realised my tool box was somewhat empty. Never been back since those few sessions it was all that was needed. Excellent man he was. A specialist in a quick attitude adjustment that has lasted a life time

Not enough to reopen it - unlike when they first met, Will now respects Sean and doesn't want to ruin their friendship by being callous about his pain - but enough to make Sean uncomfortable. As a child, this scene cemented to me what unconditional love in a marriage was. Death that ends only a life, not a relationship. Williams didn't "change his mind" or "realize he was wrong" When Will threw the superphilosophy line at him. Getting to know someone hardly needs to be through a romantic relationship. But he maybe did realize he was hurt and closed off, the same way Will was. Still, beautiful. We need more people who love that way. You can see in this scene that Will can barely grasp it.

But the knowledge he is missing & needs in his life is not found in books, only a mentor with life experience can share with him, and that is what Sean (Robin Williams) role in this film is.*

This is what I like about the cinematography here... See how the over the shoulder shots just barely catch the head of the person in the foreground? I guess that's usually called a dirty OTS. Their heads only look like dark blotches in the frame, but it makes it intimate. It lets us focus on the subject. They use a long lens for this. Then when the professor finally makes his point they open it up and we see his whole body. He is comfortable and relaxed. You don't even have to be paying attention and you know something important happened. And throughout they keep crossing the line allowing the heads to obscure the frame as if you, as the audience, is trying to get a better angle when the dynamic is changing. They break all the rules and it's great. These are things they don't teach, but real professionals do this because they know what they're doing and you will NEVER see this in a superhero movie. Side note... see when Williams raises his hand to scratch his beard? They match it in the reverse cut. This could only have been done on purpose since, clearly, there is no camera hovering behind his head when we see him.

When you think about, going to school to learn about films sounds strange on paper, yet when you start realize the impact of the right lens, the right angle, the right depth...that just adds onto the movie so much more. I got my first real taste when a guy on RU-vid was talking about the cinematography of Breaking Bad, really opened my eyes

That's awesome, I love analysis like this. Cinematography is as much a part of telling the story as the dialogue. Check out this analysis of the interrogation scene in The Dark Knight: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vTt0izejSJw.html The main thing I remember is how the camera rotates around Batman and the Joker: Batman starts out on the right side of the screen (typically the side for the protagonist), and as the Joker is talking about "right and wrong", the camera slowly rotates around them until the Joker is on the right side of the screen and Batman is on the left (typically the side for the antagonist). This could convey a lot of things, but the choice was definitely deliberate.

The mistake that we all inevitably commit to the beginning of a knowledge is to idealize the other, to project our desires, our expectations, our needs onto him ... in reality we are approaching another "strange little world "of which we are hardly willing to grasp the essence ... and when that imperfection, which is completely natural, is revealed before our eyes, makes us doubt, move away, sometimes even renounce because it does not fit with our ideal starting ... I think the most beautiful and human show is to want to know each other in the long run exactly for how it is and discover yourself in love every day of the qualities but also the weaknesses, delusions, imperfections that characterize it ... obviously within limits of the norm, there are imperfections that can not and must not be loved at any cost.

Matt's jumpy nostrils when he laughs always made me wonder what made this part of the scene SO funny, but I just realized now it's all improvised by Robin Williams. What a great comedian... Matt's face shot is shaky because the cameraman is laughing his ass off! I'm not a fan of improvisation in cinema, but that was a good one to keep. Thank you Mr. Williams.

A great scene. In it, Sean gives Will more words of wisdom to think about than anybody's has probably ever given him before. But at the end, Will turned the tables on Sean and says the same way, what about you too? By doing that, he basically said to Sean that when you're carrying so much emotional baggage, it not that easy to do. And you Sean should know that better than anybody. And that's the thing that makes this movie truly great. Those two basically helped save each other.

Proof that this man was a comedic genius. He completely ad-libbed that story about his wife farting and didn't warn anyone prior to shooting the scene. Not only was Matt Damon's laughter 100% real, but the camera is shaking because even the camera operator couldn't help but laugh. Celebrities die all the time, but his death by suicide rocked me to my core. I had to postpone a meeting I had scheduled for that evening just to attempt to wrap my head around it. Oftentimes, the ones we lose to suicide are the ones who seem the happiest: optimists, clowns, people who just can't seem to stop smiling, etc. Tell the people in your life that you love them. If you've already done that recently, it's time to do it again. You'd be amazed at how much a simple "I love you" can do for a hurting soul. Your move, chief.

find someone should be an obligation, life should not be seen only from romantic perspective, cause it alienates when you confront romance with reality. don't rely only in what feels good, it might not be true, it's only a feeling, an instinct. but this kind of friendship between this conversation, this is genuine, this is what worth, even if it's just for this moment...it's real.
