My son in law told me not fo bother watching the last season unless I want to get completely and utterly pissed off. I still haven't seen it except bits and pieces in the shorts and I tend to think he was right. I know GRR is alive and Robert Jordan is not but Jordan knew he was dying and actively sought out who he wanted to finish WoT and had all sorts of notes and such to make sure it got where it was supposed to. He wanted his vision fulfilled perfectly not manhandled the way GoT appears to have been (especially with a still living sire)
Bro, I was right about her by season 3 😂 I knew she was trash. And Robert B. was right about offing her in season 1 from the very very beginning. Easily one of the most overrated characters in all of modern media.

@@pnut3844able well, for starters he is a common person. Who had to learn to be a thief and a spy to survive as he traveled along with a troop of actors. He then became a minister across the narrow sea in Pentos, due to his spies, thieves, and political connections there. Once he was noticed as a good spymaster for Pentos he was brought over to serve the realm. He has hundreds, if not thousands of common people on his payroll. He would go and speak with those in Kingslanding nightly, while wearing disguises. So he could leave the keep unseen and return unnoticed. He also hears messages and intelligence from across all 7 realms from his little birds. Meaning he is the most well informed man in the court, and Kingdom for that matter, He is the only “lord”, who was elevated from among the commoners. And the only one to actually interact with them, more than To say “Fetch my horse boy”.

Those 2 together were always my favorite duo of dialogue throughout the entire show. Varys and Tyrion's conversations is what made me used to truly appreciate the writing for the show.

Varys was one of the greatest characters on television.... Ever, He emoted thoughts so well, Gave everything to the story, This actor was absolutely brilliant.
You could tell from his body language, (Conleth Hill, Varys' actor) dropping the paper away and crossing his arms (Lena Headey holding his hand, and Emilia looking at him "I'm really sorry"), how pissed he was, when the remaining actors and the two clowns were reading the final scripts.

No, he wasn't wrong at all. I was so wild when the writers wrote his death in. He and Tyrion were the best written characters, I thought. For such an outstanding character to come to a tacky end was infuriating. I was hoping Varys would be there at the end.
Tyrion had to endure so much. Varys was his one true friend. So even ratting on him unveils regret in his demeanor. Some of the most stellar acting I've ever seen.
Varys, the spider. Master of whispers, cunning, calculated and strong player in the game. He developed the largest spy network on the planet. Went from eunuch street urchin to direct advisor to the most powerful people(s) in the world. Survived multiple regime changes. Commits blatant treason in broad daylight without even trying to hide it and gets burnt alive for it. What a fkn joke
Agreed, I get so much grief from people when I criticize GRR. I hate lazy writing, when a character acts dumb or way out of character to advance the story. He did the same thing to Ned Stark.

Varys was done so dirty! I don't blame Conleth Hill (the actor) for his disgust. He was the only character who truly put the Realm before everything. He handled his coming death with grace and dignity. The fact he didn't blame Tyrion and still called him friend showed what a class act he was.

Tyrion grabbing his arm as a show of solidarity/apology was probably the first time he'd been touched by another human in years, possibly decades, and I think that's why he had a slightly startled reaction.
Varys was one of the best characters and was rarely ever wrong. People never seemed to listen to him. He knew what he had to do and daenerys was already power mad when she was burning soldiers who did not bend the knee, Jon was in denial and Tyrion the same about what they had to do but they did not have the heart to do it. Varys always did.
Everytime I see this scene popping up I remember the video where the actor who plays Varys reads the script for this scene for the first time and just throws the document away in visible disgust. Painful to watch, yet completely relatable to what we all felt when we saw that shit unfold.

The Scrip was fine. You people fell for the producers " little trick ". They misled you on purpose... They wanted us to choose between 2 queens...and in the end, they were both, pretty much the same. They made one young, incredibly beautiful, even irresistible ...gave her a sweet disposition...but a hint of a cruel streak...knowing that you would fall for her, like everyone else would. They made the other queen...older.. but as beautiful as she was distasteful. Qweenly , overconfident, controlling, arrogant and antisocial. They knew that you wouldn't choose her. Yet the qween you choose was obviously the worst...she was so bad that , unlike Cersi, her own people turned on her...including the spider...the imp...and even John Snow...a man who loved her. Her own nephew. Cersis brother came back to her and most of her people died fighting. Your hatred for the Scrip is misplaced. You are really angry because you made a bad choice..
Every character suffered a fifty IQ point drop that season. Varys and Tyrion both became morons that made obvious mistakes. Jon became a litteral cabbage that could barely speak unless it was to say "She's mah Queen" or "I dont want it".

Tyrion was the most honorable out of the whole Lannister family. Most characterable. He was my favorite character. At first he seemed off but as the episodes went on he proved himself to be even better.

that was slowly constructed. The writing in the season was awful,but dont get annoyed with EVERYFUCKINTHING. that has se sense because Tyrion here respected Daenerys.It was only in the end when he thought enough is enough

If you have dedicated your years to studying history, fables, the humanities and philosophies, then you will relate to this scene. The sacrificial lamb is likely always the lamb that is more self-aware than the others. Tyrion was just the clever fox who chose to self-preserve and observe rather than act. It took the burning of Kings Landing and the death of his brother for him to stand up. But Varis was not a coward and put everything on the line knowing the consequences. It begs the question of us all of how we wish to live our finite lives. The greatest player of the game was undone by a character who believed she was entitled and beyond human, because of her last name and blood magic... That is until Jon put a sword in her belly. She was no great ruler. Instead, she followed her bloodline and became a narcissistic leader who was feared. All she had was a dragon, an army of countless eunuchs and nomadic horse soldiers who lived from plundering. Jon did not demand respect, but earned it, despite being a "bastard" by living and judging on principle. And even Jon was killed because of this but was given another chance by the red priestess. So let this be a lesson to you: Be careful of who you serve and who plays the role of Tyrion in your life. And when it is your time to be burned, do not be afraid, mad, or sad. Meet your fate as boldly as you lived your life.

Actually he was wrong. His betrayal on top of Messandei's death is what made Dany snap. Varys caused the very thing he was trying to stop. And he ignored the fact that Jon did not want to be king.

This is when I really started not liking Dany. That whole season was just wrong. She did not burn Jorah for being a traitor and wept for him. The writers forgot a lot of things.
Jorah's treason was in a different time. Her game was in an different league. Her mindset was in an different world. For decades she had suffered and heard the fantasies of a people longing for the return of the Targaryens. When she did finaly cross, she got confronted with the realities. The people do not long for her in Westeros. Everyone is longing for power and their own interests. She is not treated as she was treated back in Essos. More than ever they are plotting behind her back. She finds out that she is not the rightfull heir to the throne. She starts to lose dragons. She starts to understand that she is the one losing her power. And the more she loses, the thighter she tries to grab it. And then finaly... after all that... they were just willing to give it to her? Like there was no price to be paid by them. Like her contenders could just go away and wait to another day when the throne could be taken again. Daenerys got consumed by the game. Her biological weakness for mental dissorder made her exceptional fragile when exposed to so much stress. And with no one around her truly caring for her as a person, was the most dangerous outcome. "A targaryen alone in the world..."

I had a hard time reconciling her actions at the end, in contrast to when she had first started out being passionate for freeing enslaved people and having sympathy for the plight of the oppressed. I rooted for her to be the next queen, when you compared it to the absolute villainy of Joffrey, Cersei, Ramsey Bolton and Littlefinger, she stood out as a great humanitarian. Then after, I thought, how could she have changed so drastically? Her actions would never be justified, but your explanation as to her psychological mindset, along with the toppling factor of the execution of her best friend Messandei, goes a long ways to showing how she would give in to her vengeful impulses. It would never be right, but you can see how her long held control of herself was finally overcome.
@@LoveYaAngelino From what I’ve read in Fire And Blood, the connection between a Targaryen and their particular dragon is very strong. Dany was connected to three dragons, two of whom died in a fairly short amount of time. Might that help explain Dany’s psychological fragility and eventual break?
@@mandash4762 He did what was necessary. Unfortunately he chose his duty to his queen over his friendship with Varys. Feels just like what people do these days - prioritise money over family and later live to regret it.
At least Tyrion had the decency to let Varys know who sold him out. It’s especially painful that Varys wasn’t even angry. He was more so resigned to the choice his friend had made to support Dany, which he was free to do.
This made me hate Tyrion. Tyrion, Varys, and little finger were the best written characters imo.... then in the final season they were reduced to rubbish. Varys was way too smart of a character to get himself into this situation.
