This entire keynote was the equivalent of Microsoft announcing a new version of Microsoft Office. A bunch of little features that ultimately are worth less than the sum of their parts. Not the event of a frontier AI company, or even a company that has any focus.

The thing is, what OpenAI worked on since years and released, Google had this tech, all along. They never released it to the public. Now that they have the push and competition from OpenAI, they are quickly releasing one by one to the public since the last one year, which they should have done since long back. They would have had the crown of the most innovative tech company. But now, OpenAI has the crown instead and Google looks like it is always playing catchup.

3:11 I’m all for language changing with usage but I’ve never understood the gravitation towards reading “4.7x” as “4.7 Ex” as opposed to “4.7 times”. I always understood the “x” to be the mathematical multiplication operator, not an actual “x”. To me, it’s an equivalent situation to read “5+” as “5 Tee” rather than “5 plus”.

This definitely is a huge step forward in mobile usage. That came out the day before OpenAI announced their new 4o model. The big difference is Gemini is included in the whole Google ecosystem which makes it huge for sure.I wonder how Apple is going to reply to that.

really good AI infrastructure brought into phones, I think in the future with more efficiency and better chips when trying to use AI to extract info about youtube videos it should look at the whole video and not just the captions, and it should work on everything not just google owned apps, so instagram as well, or X (instead of their built in AI models)

Interesting announcements but we definitely need to put them to the test to see how they really compare. If the public gets access to Veo before Sora, that will also be relevant.

AI is good in few things , but completely depending on it for each and every small thing is KILLING the human thinking and thought process.

Why does cloud run still take so long to start up, why isn't google the market leader using firecracker vm technology for near instant start-up times. It just doesn't make sense. If the creator of lightweight containers can't get it right and lead the market with cost and cold start speeds then why would I trust or build on your cloud at all? You don't lead in anything cloud related. Neither does AWS for that matter.
