The Google Pixel 6A and Poco X4 GT might be the most important phones of 2022, I've tested both and here's the comparison! A Google Pixel 6A camera test compared with the stock Poco X4 GT camera and a Poco x4 GT GCam port, I cover the Pixel 6A's throttling, the Poco X4 GT touch sampling issues, and all of the usual battery, screen, and audio tests.

The Pixel 6A vs Poco X4 GT 5G is a great matchup. Fast processors, good screens (though very different), and good to great battery life. The Google Pixel camera test compared with the Xiaomi Poco X4 GT camera is closer than many would expect--the Pixel 6A vs most phones will outperform and it still does, but its most notable in tricky shooting situations and night shots. In my previous Xiaomi Poco X4 GT review vs Poco F3 review, I noted that there seemed to be some touch sampling issues with the X4 GT when running the refresh rate at 144Hz, hopefully that will be ironed out with a software update (if it's not just a bug on my unit). Great video, thank you for your time, I have just subscribed to your channel. At 9:20, I don't understand the point between sample rate vs. refresh rate. So, does screen refresh rate affect sample frequency? And if so, how? I have a 120 Hz Samsung device. Will lowering the refresh rate to 60 Hz make the sample frequency higher?
@phonecomp
@phonecomp Год назад
@@marvcar Hello Marvcar! Glad you liked the video! Touch sampling rates don't necessarily correspond to screen refresh rates. Generally 60hz displays have a touch sampling rates of 120hz, but 120hz displays may not reach (or get close to) 240hz. Although many midrange and flagship devices will have touch sampling rates of 360hz and above--but that's sometimes only activated in game modes. Does that make sense? Basically the refresh rate and touch sampling rate aren't tied together.

@@phonecompOk! Thank you for your kind reply. I want to buy the POCO X4 GT because it has an IPS screen. I've been using AMOLED screens since 2019 (400 ppi). Recently, I turned on an old phone I bought in 2017 (Asus Zenfone 3), which has an IPS screen (also 400 ppi). I was amazed at how good it looked. Text is just sharper, images seem to have more definition. Whites and greys look better, just flat, as opposed to AMOLED screens, in which these colors look just grainy to my eyes. Also the reds in AMOLED screens look grainy. Again, thank you so much

Absolutely, LCD is not some awful display technology. I prefer OLED's but every phone is a balancing act between price and performance and if using an LCD screen means you can throw in a better processor at a certain price -- that seems like a reasonable option to me.

All the features of the Poco X4 gt are stunning and the most important thing is that this comes with a stable Mediatek dimensity 8100 chipset.

Hey Lucas! The 8100 is absolutely the star of the show, I wish they would have gone with a different display like the F3's with better brightness and touch sampling rates. I still really like the phone (it's what I'm using right now to reply), but I'm hoping they will essentially just tweak the X5 next year to be the X4 GT plus.

I switched my device from Poco X4 GT to Pixel 6a recently. Poco is more focused on gamers while 6a on the other side has a better camera and software features and I love it. I got bored using the Poco because of lack of features unlike Pixel 6a. If you are a gamer, choose the Poco X4 GT. But if you want a better camera, features and future updates, go for Pixel 6a. It's all depends on your daily needs or priorities.

Well said Jayson. The "right phone" for each person is definitely going to vary. I just think that (price for performance) the X4 GT is hard to beat. The 6a is absolutely the more well rounded device. I just wish it had a little bit better battery life, and didn't overheat with 4K video shooting.

Hey there! First of all, thank you for the great review. One of the most in-depth comparisons I've seen in general and especially when it comes to these two models. I've personally been eyeballing these two phones for some time now since my old phone just broke recently. I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means, but the Poco's chipset makes it attractive nonetheless for the money it costs. Thinks like an included headphone jack or an IR blaster make it an even more attractive offer. Yet, the pixel also seems very exciting with its IP67 certification, its more fleshed-out camera and the Pixel-exclusive features powered by the Tensor processor. I guess what I'm mostly after is a recently released mid-range phone (thus, the most amount of software updates) with decent performance and longevity (in the form of physical protection and security updates). One of the things there seems to be no consensus on when stumbling through different reviews is the battery life, especially concerning the Pixel 6a. You hear everything from 1.5 days of usage (which backs up the time stated in your video) down to only 4h of screen time per day. There is also debate concerning the updates of the Pixel and if they have made the phone better or worse. On the flipside, I've seen someone commenting on your video where they talk about Poco intentionally throttling the performance of the camera or the phone in general through software updates as we're approaching newer releases. In another forum, I've also read that the Poco is essentially a version of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, which, according to the author of the forum post, received mixed reviews in China. If you still own any of these two phones by any chance, could you please tell me how they've done over these few weeks and if any weak points have become apparent? In any case, thank you again for the review and have a great day!
@phonecomp
@phonecomp 2 года назад
Thank you Valentin! I still have both devices at the moment and I'm currently replying on the Pixel 6A. Battery life fluctuates more than other recent devices I've used, but I still haven't been able to drain it in a full day. Xiaomi labels it's Redmi line as Poco devices globally, from what I can tell. So yes, the X4 GT is basically a Redmi K50i, but as far as I know it was well reviewed too. I can't speak authoritatively about Poco weakening older phones before launching new phones, but I can't say I noticed that on the F3. The Pixel will definitely be supported longer with updated, but it does run pretty warm. And I did finally get a warning about reducing performance while shooting 4K footage outside after about 15 minutes of continuous recording. It's a hard choice! I really like both, but I'll probably end up selling the Pixel or trading it in when the 7 series launch. But that's really just to help produce more content, not anything against the 6A.
@valentinbaal4802
@valentinbaal4802 2 года назад
@@phonecomp First and foremost, thank you very much for the detailed and incredibly quick answer! I think I'm going to opt for the Poco X4 GT, based on all things considered. The Pixel 6A is a truly great phone with a strong processor and which is capable to shoot some of the best looking photos I've seen coming from a mid-range phone in a long time. However, I realized that I most likely won't be able to use most of the cool software features it comes with, since I don't live in one of the areas mentioned by Google. And given that this restriction is most likely based on some sort of data privacy law, this is sadly unlikely to change in the near future. Your video helped me a lot to alleviate some of the doubts I initially had when looking at the Poco. Thanks again! You definitely earned a sub and I can't wait for your future work, including the reviews of the 7 series Pixel devices!

@phonecomp
@phonecomp Год назад
Hello PAPA! 6a for photo/video, tie for social networking and design (I'm not the best judge of those categories though), gaming depends-6a has a great processor but it runs hot, so the X4 GT will game for longer and at a higher refresh rate. Battery life and charging speed are much better on the Poco, but software support and some exclusive features give the Pixel the edge. Also, I love that the Pixel allows more customization with third party launchers. I don't game that much--so my choice is the 6a (it's the phone I'm using at the moment actually). I hope that helps!

Hello Stevie! I suspect there are potential customers in the states that are attracted to the high refresh rate and more reliable gaming performance from the X4 GT. Plus, if you buy from Wireless Place or any number of US based eBay sellers you can avoid the headache of importing all together. Plus you get a budget friendly device that is unlocked for any carrier that will provision it for their network (basically T-Mobile and some of their MVNO's). Security and software updates in general are slow from Xiaomi brands like Poco, but they do receive them. I feel like I'm selling the Poco really hard, but I've been using the Pixel nearly as much and I really am thrilled with both devices. If I could only use one, it would be the Pixel since I'm not a huge gamer and I 100% prefer stock android over MIUI on the Poco. But, the importing of a lot of phones just isn't a big deal anymore, as long as you verify that they will work with your wireless carrier.

If more users could test a 90 or 120hz device side by side with the 6a, I think they would be pleasantly surprised. Hello Sumedh! As far as general everyday use, I agree. Benchmark scores over a certain threshold aren't particularly meaningful, but I think they are handy for comparisons, especially the CPU throttling test. Based on my experience with the Poco F3, the bugginess actually improved after a few months of updates, so I'm still optimistic about Xiaomi's ability to deliver meaningful updates.
@xdadev
@xdadev 2 года назад
@@phonecomp Don't be that optimistic pal. As a senior XDA dev, I've tested like 40+ Xiaomi devices here in India and the update situation on Xiaomi/Poco is a huge mess. In-fact, a lot of developers have shown that Xiaomi deliberately reduces the performance and cameras on their devices as the next version's launch comes closer. I've experienced it myself. And you definitely know the dicey stuff like GetApps, Security apps and unnecessary permissions on the Miui. At least techies can de-bloat the UI and fix the 3rd party launcher gesture issue on the Miui. Some devices launched last year are yet to receive an Android 12 update, forget those that launched in 2020. Cheers.

@@xdadev Ah, good to know. You definitely have more experience than I do on this topic! MIUI is by far my least favorite Android flavor, for many of the reasons you mentioned. @xdadev
@xdadev 2 года назад
@@phonecomp Sadly Color-OS and Fun-touch OS are in the same boat with the MiUi. The budget devices from these brands are in a dire state when it comes to update situation. Vivo at least with their flagships now have introduced 3 years of updates...their previous flagships like Vivo X60 pro+ had only one Android update policy. Realme has also now moved to 3 years of updates policy with their current flagships since March 2022...all other realme devices have 1 year of updates mostly. *But the updates are still pretty slow on both of them...be it Android updates or Security updates.* After OnePlus moved to Color OS base, they too have stumbled on updates and are way behind now...they used to be first in the line years ago but I digress. I'll be honest with you, be it their budget devices or flagships, Samsung is the only one that manages to give speedy and mostly bug-free updates given their 'n' number of launches every year. They even surprised me by providing a more stable and bug-free experience on S22 ultra compared to Pixel 6 pro on Android 12 initially for 5-6 months. *Google's Pixel devices are obviously right up there.* Some Indian reviewers have complained about their Pixel 6a getting unlocked even with random unregistered fingerprints and Google is yet to provide a fix it seems. My Indian Pixel 6a has no such issues but that's still is a concern which Google hasn't fixed yet. Devices from Asus and Moto also have stable updates although kinda slow and less. I had high hopes from Nothing but they severely messed up the Nothing phone 1 with their 3rd update. Hope that clears a lot of air. Cheers.
@phonecomp
@phonecomp 2 года назад
@@xdadev Yes, great summary of the current state of update policies! As Android has matured and platform updates don't offer a large amount of game changing features, does it matter as much about the years of guaranteed updates? With Google play services updates for major security vulnerabilities, how much should users really care? Of course, I would prefer phones be supported longer, with consistent, bug free updates, but I'm on the fence about how critical platform updates are nowadays.

@@only1anime89 Totally understand. I used the F3 for a year and the X4 GT has been in my pocket more than any other phone in the last two months--so I like Xiaomi devices and can get along with MIUI, but if they shipped with more of a stock feel and less restrictions--i'd be even happier. Game turbo is a great implementation of a gaming mode-totally agree.
