As a fan of both pokemon and fighting games, happy to not only see someone decided to take this video style, but to see ewgf actually respond make this a great day.
I think Sol is pretty well designed. His meter usage being strong is counteracted by him only having one (usable) overdrive, whereas most other characters have two, with each fulfilling a different niche to complement their game plan. Giovana gets a reversal and wallbreak super, in addition to a plus on block divekick super, Happy Chaos uses both of his supers to more easily manage his resources, Goldlewis churns butter and skips neutral, etc. On the other hand, Sol just has Tyrant Rave, and its use case is pretty basic. Break da wall, do some damage, maybe use it as a reversal but get shit oki after. So instead of a second (usable) super, Sol utilizes the game’s core mechanics very well, which makes sense, as he’s the main character of the game. Also doing loads of damage off a cS is fine. It’s a high damage game, cS is every character’s best combo starter, you put them into the corner, and you read/conditioned your opponent well enough to put yourself into a position where you can land a cS, like reading a backdash or baiting a burst. Also, HVV is cool. Mastery of routing into it allows for some really cool and interesting methods of player expression, not unlike sidewinder in +R. Nerfing the damage on hVV would probably solve the terrible issue of Sol players having fun (god forbid), but its a lazy and boring solution that takes away from Sol’s character identity, which is probably why ArcSys hasn’t nerfed the damage yet.
@@copperCCSD My gripe with Strive Sol is how they removed any reason to not HVV, he used to have some interesting routes with other moves without it, for wallbreak or corner carry (often similar damage even), but they ALL got nerfed one way or another. Their unwillingness to adjust HVV led then to nerf everything else about the character which makes him feel like a one trick pony to me.
@@DestroyerOfDoom 5k has the longest total duration in the game for any standard kick, its first hitbox is the same range as the average throw (and throws are faster to come out), and its reward on hit is roughly the same as a throw on hit. Sol’s 5k is fast, yes, but giving a fast, close ranged normal (with caveats) to a character that’s supposed to do well in close range seems fine, no? Besides, in most situations outside of combos, if you got hit by the first hit of 5k, you probably would’ve gotten hit by a throw as well. Now, if you want to be mad at a fast normal, be mad at Chipp’s 5p. Same 3 frame startup, bigger hitbox, very safe, whiff cancelable. I’m not as familiar with Chipp’s balancing philosophy ouside of “Go Fast Die Fast”, but it’s still reasonable to give a supersonic ninja a fast normal, yeah? So, just saying ‘Sol broken because 3 frame kick’ doesn’t show the full picture and ends up being rather reductive. If you’d like, try playing Sol yourself. He’s a very fun character with a low barrier to entry but with a very high skill ceiling. Give him a try, mash that 5k (but not too hard, be gentle with your controller), and see what other strengths he has. While I can’t say anything about your personal preferences, I can say that Strive Sol is my favorite fighting game character ever, and he might end up being yours too if you give him the chance.
I do agree that gran has high damage, but whenever people talk about boot they always talk about it like its good. Boot Was good, you could even call it amazing but now in Rising its not a very good move.High risk high reward but only in the corner. Also with the nerfs from versus still on gran and the overall faster game gran suffers heavily.Dash a overpowers light boot a by far and people are dash blocking way more because of dash a. another downside that affects grans feet flying into your face is that medium boot is easily punished if dash blocked and is very very hard to get the plus frames if your spacing it for that. Heavy boot is so insanely hard to space for it to be safe that if your using gran for that move you might aswell play soriz and just throw a safer boot like skill out.Ultimate boot is unsafe(sometimes?) Even know Ultimate skills are supposed to be much better heavy skills. Overall boot was a amazing and funny to use move that was memed the hell out of, but now its not as great as people think
I was playing gran randomly with my friend the other day. Never played him once in a match. Hit f.H mid screen into level 4 U since I found out it wallbounces the match previously. He looses 60% of his healthbar and the combo was even messed up at the end cause I hit combo limit. Character's messed up man
That's interesting to hear someone rate Sol so highly now adays. Not saying he's not a decent character but hes gotten nerfed constantly whereas others have just gotten straight buffed so he's either relative or lower at this point. Though he's my second favorite character to use when I hop on he's fun.
@@evilded2 yeah but to be fair, the general perspective for sol is very influenced by tierlist and high gameplay stuff, and it really shows what you can do with sol regardless of his nerfs.(to be fair i think at this point every modern fg has that)
it helps that sol has multiple ways to pressure you to make mistakes as well as really good defensive options which is what makes him so potent despite getting hit with the nerf stick so many times.
@0Yeah thats a fair point. The character being so roundly designed means he still has a lot of options that few characters have. Also I forget Wild Assualt being hugely advantageous for his gameplan.

Thus is what I always try to explain to my friends whenever someone complaints that this "sauceless" character shouldn't have Rajang level of damage. "Why does this mf do so much damage and it's easy to play? Wtf is this bullshit? I have to do so much effort for playing -insert puppet/set up/ execution heavy character- "Oh yeah? Your character has deffo better tools than mine and does better shit than my boi could ever do, I have to play discount Street Fighter everytime I wanna run my gameplan/pressure so it's always PREDICTABO, but *boi* if i ever catch you sleeping with a button you HAVE lose 40-50% health WHY? Because that's the basic reward for winning neutral or guessing right. That's a good shoto in my book, I want my conversion to HURT so you'll be more mindful of how YOU PLAY THE DAMN NEUTRAL Also are you complaining about a character that has no mix and plays basic strike throw that is too strong ? The hell? Ssj Goku in DBFZ has basic mix and has more options with assists, but man if he didnt have the angled beams and MONKE DAMAGE off of his conversions he wouldn't be Goku Yu Narukami in P4AU is a bit of a master of all actually, with good pokes, great range and a lot of options for a shoto character, he has it easier with its tool kit I wish i could say the same about Ragna boi, playing the game as him feels like an uphill battle everytime even with the almost godlike buttons that he has

@@yaboytony3028 i mean, despite my original comment being ironic, does sol really have a fireball? i mean in earlier games gun flame acted as a fireball but in its current state it's less of a projectile and more of a wave
