Completely agree….Bryan would have sounded much different without Kieth. I’ve seen the band about 5 times since that album came out and every time the music was top shelf. Most people don’t sit down at a BA concert! 👍👍👍👍👍👍 Thanks to Pete and “The Captain“!

Yes and I would argue that the two albums after Reckless are even better examples of Keith's playing: solos on Native Son, slide on Only the Strong Survive, and the extended outros to Do I Have to Say the Words, Don't Drop that Bomb on Me, and Everything I Do.

I'm from Vancouver. Just a little younger than Keith Scott. In the mid 70's you could play in a rock cover band and play 5 or 6 nights in the cabarets of Vancouver and make a living, and nobody was better at doing that and was as well known as Keith Scott and he undoubtedly learned a lot from covering all the hits of the day. Bryan Adams was 5 years older and apparently pestered the manager of Bachman Turner Overdrive, Bruce Allen, relentlessly, until somehow he ended up replacing Nick Gilder of Sweeney Todd ("Roxy Roller"). There was one album produced then Bryan began a solo career with bubble gum pop songs like "Let Me Take You Dancing". After that his management helped him put the together the band that he became famous with, and the band had the hottest hired gun in town, Keith Scott on guitar. Jim Vallance became his writing partner. Around that time our band was in a rented rehearsal space that was on Hastings Street and we heard a band down the hall and we thought "Hey, that singer sounds a lot like Bryan Adams". After we played for a little while we took a break and then Bryan Adams just walked into our room. He didn't say anything and we didn't say anything, and there was that incredible awkward silence for a few seconds, then Bryan turned around opened the door and left. We laughed our asses off because I think he should have said something first but didn't, and we didn't get all excited and say "Oh my God, it's Bryan Adams!". For a while there was a guitar shop in nearby Surrey where I live and I really wanted the 1962 Stratocaster they had but I didn't have the $2500(!) they wanted, and there was a 1950s Strat and other incredible vintage guitars. All I took out of that store was a Boss Phaser. Later I heard that Bryan and Keith went there and cherry-picked all the best guitars. About 10 years later in December 1989, Bryan was a big star and I am working as a courier into the night during the Christmas rush and I have a package for Bryan Adams that I think was maybe cassettes from MCA. He was living in West Vancouver and it was kind of unusual because it probably should of been sent to a post office mailbox. Anyway, it is dark and cold at night before Christmas and maybe 7 or 8 PM and I have been delivering the Christmas rush of parcels for 12 hours or more and just want to get it all done and go home. I ring his intercom at the gate and I explain everything and then he lets me through the gate. I drive up to the front door and hold up the little package to the front door peephole that he is looking through. He realises that I am legit and opens the door and gives me a warm superstar celebrity greeting that I didn't really expect, but again I wasn't responding like a gushing fanboy because I am so damn tired but it left an impression that I can recall it to you to this day. No tip, LOL. There are a few other celebrities I met doing courier work like the members of Loverboy and Matt Groenig, but that's another story.

Re the chorus Adams (Scott) used on this album, the Boss DC-2 (Dimmension C) had come out around this time which was the pedal based off the Roland SDD-320 Dimension D which was used on this album. Later Adams & Scott used the Boss DC-2 live on tour. Interesting thing to note, the DC-2 was quite popular (even though not a true chorus) during this time. Being used by Adams, Scott, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Prince to name a few. Sorta funny when players try every chorus out there to get some of these tones and can't find the exact one. The four button no knob DC-2 was it. Cheers and Great Vid

Bryan used to play at our local cabaret back in the 70s in Langley BC Canada all the time, I can still see his name on the marquee. I remember sitting right in front of the stage, he was like maybe 18 and I was 15, not even old enough to be in there, but I remember my friends and I all loved him and KNEW that he was going to Make it. local boy does good. talked to him many times in those days, and then about a year later he got his record deal and took off from there. And rest is history. P.S. Our "little cabaret" used to be a skating rink, It was called the Bow Fiddler. You could pack in 2000+ people on a Saturday night. no wonder he played there alot.

Ran into him a couple times at Fogg on the Bay particularly during the summer of Expo. Vancity was such a small, unaffected city in the ‘80s, you’d run into local and visiting (like Bon Jovi) rock stars all the time and everybody was cool about it.

So proud of our music! 🇨🇦. The first time I saw Bryan perform was when he took over as lead vocalist for a band called Sweeney Todd. Nick Gilder was the previous vocalist and their big hit was "Roxy Roller". Bryan had really long hair and must've been very young at the time. 😊. Great times growing up in 🇨🇦 and all the great rock (and hockey 😂) we had. 😀🎸🎸🎶 🏒 Thx for posting this! ❤

My future wife and I danced to "Heaven" at our High School Prom in 1984. That was our song. Married in 1990....28 years, and 2 kids later it all fell apart, but this song remains a dagger to my heart yet also a comfort all at the same time. Ever since "Cuts like a knife" Brian has been one of my favorite artists.

Steve Smith from Journey played with Bryan Adams on Heaven. Mickey Curry was unable to play during the studio session because he was playing with Hall and Oats. Steve was in New York and Bryan called on him. 1983. It was one of the reasons that Neal Schon got Steve fired from the band. He didn't want anyone working outside of Journey.

Justin Hawkins did a thing about this LP a while back. I’m so glad it’s socially acceptable to like Bryan Adams again. (That Robin Hood song definitely outstayed its welcome). This was the second LP I ever bought (or at least got my Mum to buy it for me). I would have been about 7 or 8 when I got it. (A couple of years after it came out). The rhythm guitar sound on ‘Its Only Love’ is still grail to me.

About the "socially acceptable again" part, it does seem to be slowly turning that way, and it's about time! Not that it should matter in the first place, of course!... In any case, for anyone who hasn't been following BA very close, it may be a good idea to go through this playlist, and see how they sound live 40 years after Reckless. ru-vid.com/group/PLaPEstx8t-dqdvjkN1eJwwqAJaYljV1Gt&si=UI0P7ZSWASp53PEK

This is great. I started getting back into vinyl in 2015. I remember sitting in our front room playing records on our console system in the early 80's. Fighting with my brother on which album to put on next, and sitting on the floor with the lights off at night, as my father put on Pink Floyd, the police, supertramp, the tubes and more. I had a crappy record player in my room as well, but it was the best, no matter the quality of player. Since I got back into records, I can say, scientifically sonically or not... nothing sounds better than that old music on vinyl. It's more than just the direct sound... its the whole experience that makes it the best. You LISTEN to a whole album. No skipping, no favoriting... just listening. Listening to vinyl is what actually lead me to get back into guitar after a 15 year hiatus. It's all connected!! Well done guys! Hope you keep this series going. Such a great side topic!

Keith Scott is incredibly melodic, each single note he played on all these Bryan Adams' albums is absolutely flawless. 'Do I Have to Say the Words' gives me chills every time I hear it, the way he uses the whammy bar in that song is just perfect. I've been lucky enough to watch him playing it live in Brazil in 2017. Certainly one of the most underrated guitar players in Rock History. P.S.: That 'Into the Fire' album laying down there is also great. Home Again and the tile song are fantastic. 'Into the Fire' is Keith's favourite song, BTW. Bryan's voice is the same as in the 80's, but the guy is nuts, he blocks everything on YT, so it's very difficult to see footage of his live shows or include excerpts of his songs in any video.

Bryan Adams was my first concert, he had Extreme, Little Angels, Squeeze supporting. One of the biggest days of my life. Everything that day blew my wee mind. PS - Bryan Adams would have been 10/11 in 1969. The line about Jody getting married hits different with that knowledge. I suspect Mr Adams may have been telling porkies.

This is great to watch and hear the discussion Btw Keith Scott did an interview in Jeremy White channel about recording reckless. He talks about using his beat up 70s strat with the single humbucker in it. He goes in to say a lot of the Reckless overdubs were done with borrowed and rented amps and guitars, which were Marshall’s and a 60s red strat. Which Bryan Adams did buy several years later. That interview is worth a watch too 👍

Sharing the same sentiments as others, without Keith Scott, I don't know how good Bryan would have been He always serves the song and not his ego and has some of the most tasteful and complete solos of the 80s and 90s His work on Reckless is superb, but he truly shines on the Into The Fire album (Bryan's best Album by a country mile, so much darker than anything he's ever done) and Waking Up the Neighbours, his playing on both and his solos are sounds to behold. That statement about the greatest guitar player you've never heard of os so true, Afficianados know who he is, but the average listener hasn't a clue who he is. Bryan has a huge part of his success down to Keith's playing Seen them 29 times together, and Keith always delivers He should be nicknamed the Postman ❤️

Kids Wanna Rock was the last song recorded for the album. The album was already basically done and Bryan was in New York having a listen to the album with manager Bruce Allen who responded "where's the rock?" Bruce felt the album needed a rocker, so Bryan wrote another tune and recorded it with the band then Reckless became history.

I used to be in a band up in Seattle around when this was released. We had a guitar player that sang and played just like Brian and Keith. That’s what we would call the Pacific Northwest Sound. We also had a female guitarist and a Philippine female singer. We did around eight of these songs and sounded just like them without even trying. Our drummer was great too. I only filled in for two months until they could find a bass player that could go up to Alaska. I saw Brian and co play up in Raleigh a few years back and they killed it.

The lead track and single was Run to You in the UK, Bryan Adams was a huge AC/DC fan, he’s a great guitar player live too as well as Keith Scott, when he toured the On a Day like today album he played bass and they just played as a 3 piece band and all wore white, I saw them in Hyde Park with Soace supporting, saw him play Newcastle Arena too in the 90s, he has the crowd in the palm of his hand

My first concert ever was Bryan Adams "Waking Up The Nation - 1992", I've always had a soft spot for Bryan, Keith Scott and Mickey Curry (drummer, also played on The Cult "Fire Woman")... 🔥 indeed Sir's! 👍🎶

Little fun fact, a group called Lava wanted to replicate the drums from summer of 69, and after using a bunch of time and money they did, years later they met the sound engineer from this album and asked how did they do it? Turns out where they were recording and it got so warm they had to get some air by opening the doors, (I thing they were in a barn, not sure but think so) they were big and metal so they apparently provided the reverb effect.

There's a video where Bob Clearmountain talks about it, I think the studio was the Power Station in NY, and they put the drums near the loading bay and opened the door. The reverb on Heaven is from the stairwell/fire escape if I'm remembering the video correctly

That whole album is rock guitar and great hooks to the max. Brian and Keith are still kickin’ arse today. Just rockin’ music and love this reaction to it.

One of the best albums of the 80s. Bryan Adams (and also Huey Lewis and Thin Lizzy) influenced my friends and me in our band then. We even tuned the guitars to the songs of this album. And tried to learn all the riffs by ear. Even our keyboard player tried to sound like the keyboarder on this album. I must admit that I stole some words from this album while songwriting in those days. The Stones are legends, but in the 80s nobody listened to them, I thought they were terribly old and out.

This was one of my first tapes! I was literally 2 when this came out so I didn’t listen until the 90s! Please keep doing these! Amazing stuff. It’s pretty obvious by his playing but these are revealing how great of an ear Pete has.

Thanks to Lee & Pete and the behind the scenes folk, that was quite enjoyable. I wasn't quite old enough to get that album on its first run. I have a suggestion for an LP but from what I understand of the boys' musical tastes & influences it won't be something they're intimately familiar with, yet they've probably heard a couple of songs. Jane's Addiction Ritual De Lo Habitual - it's definitely got an A and a B side with different characters. I think that they'd prolly have to give it a few listens before tackling the recorded play-through. Anyway, I feel it's one of the seminal albums from the 1990s and managed to bring together punk, rock, metal, & art-house sensibilities. There aren't any blues licks but it's awash with different guitar textures - from heavy & sustained to punchy stabs &: choral orchestral & fluid runs. And bass lines which seem to keep everything together and don't get me started on the drums!

Run To You was the 1st single released from Reckless. And Keith Scott is an unknown LEGEND. His solo on Cuts Like A Knife (from the previous album Cuts Like A Knife) is one of greatest solos ever played. Perfection.
