If i wanted to give a cinematic look, or im recording someone else, the gopro gimbal is a must, but if i want to do a pov video, the mouth mounted gopro gives a much better feel to the footage, much more alive and gives a better perspective of the action, not only in snowboarding, but also other type of povs, like mountainbike and parkour, it's my personal preference and opinion. Thanks for the comparison video!
I think I wouldn't want a stabilizer in a POV shot, but if you film someone else, it's the dopest tech out there for the money. I guess it depends on what video you wanna make
It looks great, but as someone below said - it takes away all the adrenaline feel. All the shakes, head movements, etc. this stabilizer will be great for panoramic shots or time lapses. Just my opinion.
So excited for the image stabilization and playing around with the Karma gimbal. Not sure if I will invest in the whole kit with the drone as I have a DJI and live in a HUGE "no-fly" zone, but we shall see. Great video, cheers mate!

awesome job by the karma grip... But i prefer watching the mouth mounted footage in such skiing videos)) a little shake gives more realistic feeling and a little bit more excitement hehe
The gimbal is amazing for sure but don't you feel like the mouth cam is weirdly satisfying? Something about the jostling that I enjoy especially during something like skiing down a hill. Great comparison, great vid
I see that a lot of people don’t like the fact that the gimbal with POV is weird, but I like to think of it as a Special camera following, like instead of a camera flying down the mountain, they use a gimbal :D It looks awesome and extremely smooth, just like the snow 😍
i love both ways of filming. they have like a different feel. more action without the gimbal. and with the gimbal it looks so smooth and chill. great quality! i might pick this up instead of a dslr
Heard something about the hero 5 has built in stabilization. Is that true? If so, could you do a comparison of the hero 4 black and the hero 5 without and with karma?
Just noticed on the GoPro website. They are releasing an extension lead for the karma grip, early next year. Now I am really interested! Just need to make it waterproof so we can use it for kiteboarding, windsurfing, wakeboarding etc.
Cool comparison, do you have a pic of your helmet with the GoPro + the gimbal mounted on it ? And how about the "digital" stabilization without the gimbal on the new GoPro 5 ? It will be cool to have a comparison between no stabilization all all, built in stabilization and gimbal stabilization !
Hey Abe, yeah that's great with the Stabilizer ! But it's not better, it's different, we feel a little bit more engaged without it ! (Hope you understand^^). You could use both for the next gopro edit? please 🙏🏼?
Not diminishing the astounding difference and the importance of the technology, but am I the only one preferring the rawness and roughness of natural image movement to translate more reality and intensity to the scenes? I believe POV needs this.
for as good as the gimble is, for the application that you're using it and I think the unstable footage with a little bit of post-production smoothing would make for better footage
I agree, without the grip the footage looks more natural, it´s like I am there taking part of the action. With the grip looks great but not in this action case. I would use the grip for non 1st person action footage mostly
Head is really stable compared to body shake so If the camera is attached super tighly to the helmet and helmet to the head, shaky footage actually looks good and more dramatic. This stabilization is great, It gives professional look to it. But I don't like it when it's on helmet, everywhere else it's amazing! :)
Hey Abe, thanks for the review. Quick question. Is all the video that isn't part of the side by side comparison shot in 2.7 4:3? And if so, did you just chop the top and bottom or did you use the dynamic stretch technique?
To be honest for some of the shots I prefer the non gimbal version. I like the sense of movement from side to side of the skiing shots although some of the other stuff the gimbal is better. There is a fine line to be drawn somewhere between the two,not everything needs to be silky smooth with no sense of motion, when the skier is going down hill in the non gimabl section you can almost feel the turns yourself as they are made, that to me is worth more than a rock steady artificial looking image,in this instance at least.
Even though it does take some of the "action" away, it is nice and smooth. I filmed downhill mtb with a chesty mount, just too much movement, wish I had the Karma grip. Would also like to see the helmet mount!
Abe can you tell me when the go pro is attached to the drone do you get Manual camera setttings like exposure and shutter speed etc. similar to the Phantom 4?
Abe Kislevitz Thanks abe you're the man. Been watching your vids since the "February park edit vid" Hope to see more content from you soon. Keep up the good work.
Quick question Abe. Would you be able to mount the Karma stabilizing unit to an extension pole like say a GoPole, since the Karma has the GoPro mounting bracket on it?
Was your helmet weighing you down with the Karma Grip attached up top? I sometimes have issues from the added weight just putting my Hero3 on my helmet. Any tips on how you mounted it on your helmet?
+Abe Kislevitz Amazing! Brilliant comparison! Time to get an upgrade. The new GoPro 5 Hero black edition and the karma grip will work brilliantly for skiing. Just a few questions I would like to ask. Do you think a gopro hero 5 with the karma grip attatched to the helmet will still record good footage, and how easy will it be to set up assuming I will swap it occasionally to use as a handheld device? Is it safe to do this or am I risking losing my camera?
Lets say you strap the Gopro + Karma grip to your front backpack strap, if you were to for example skiing, and throw a lincoln loop, would the gamble stay level? Would the video be straight forward with the skiers body rotating around the frame?
I 100% prefer the head mounted look. It makes it feel like you are actually there. I guess if you are filming others, like he did, it would make sense. But when filming attached to your body part i prefer no gimbal.
Who you do the part with the karma grip identical to the first one without the karma ? You move in the same way , you did it in one time both the videos?
Have you come across the 'horizon tilt' issue that lots of users are complaining about even after a hard reset and calibration? Very much wanting to know if this is just for an unlucky number of devices.
Great video, thank you for this. The thing i couldn't get a clear answer so far is: to attach to other GoPro mounts you need yo attach the whole Karma Grip, right? with the stick and everything. So how you attach this to your head grip? and how it would be to attach in a a car grip? Just go me curious.
Is this compatible with the go pro hero 4 silver? Or are there any alternatives for the silver4? I am mostly concerned that the protective case will be in the way....
