Awesome review! I have the Hero5 and have been waiting for more reviews like yours to decide if I should get the Karma Grip, and I definitely will. Thanks!
Great review! I just bought one yesterday, along with the Hero 5...I am training for a Marathon and do videos of my running / races (5ks, 10ks, halfs, etc...) and needed to invest in this. It may just be a hobby, but I am super excited to see the footage this thing brings!
Thanks for the straight forward review man! I've been doing research for days trying to figure out the best gimbal for myself. I own a hero 5 black so the Karma grip seems like the best option for me. 🖒
By default, Karma Grip disables the in-camera stabilisation so you can actually activate the second tier of stabilisation by accessing it from the camera menu and activating the in-camera stabilisation too. Add to that stabilisation in the post and you are set for a buttery smooth footage....
Thanks for this video! What about Karma's stabilization vs. Hero5 Session's built-in EIS? Are they even comparable? I really don't want another "thing" to carry if I can get away with it. Thanks in advance.
Any body knows if the stabilizer can be mounted to a handlebar with out the actual karma handle? Like only the adaptor, and still work? Im asking this because im not sure if the camera will supply power to the stabilizer or only the grip integrated batteries will. Thanks in advance
GoPro Grip for the win. Smooth as a butter. I owned Feyu and Evo. Nice construction but not as smooth as GoPro. Plus you can get GoPro Care and they will replace it even it is your fault when you break it. Great customer service too.
So help me on this one! I have a GoPro Hero 6. Following 2 options: 1. Buy a Karma Grip for it 2. Buy a GoPro Hero 8 and trade it the 6 to get $100 discount Price of options 1 and 2 are the same. What should I pick? :)
the only thing i would have done differently is to indicate which video is which. Meaning, when you show footage from the hero5, its says hero5 to to indicate thats its shot on a hero5. Also would have been cool to have a "spilt screen" shot between the stabilized and un-stabilized shot. Other than that, great video, been watching your videos from day one. Come along way since you started!!
I agree and was thinking the same thing. You can definitely see a difference, but the way he describes it I think he flipped the frames. Side by side would have been great.
Really enjoying my Karma Grip although when I mount it to the handle bars of my road bike (I'm a road bike vloger) after a short while it freaks out and goes off horizon (crooked), therefore I only chest or helmet mount it and it works really well. I've heard about this from a few other cyclist also and it is really disappointing as it would be a nice POV from the bars (or stem) with no arms or anything else in the shot. I'm figuring it worked on your ATV because it has suspension to help dampen the shock whereas on a road bike it doesn't so it can't handle it. Perhaps they'll come up with some firmware to help this out and also give you access to the usb-c port at the bottom to plug in an external mic to help with the terrible sound. Other than that I am really enjoying it! Great review though. You've gained a subscriber here👍🏾
Thanks for the tip Gil but that actually is how I had it mounted. If you've got any other ideas I'm totally open to hearing/trying them. Thanks again👍🏾
So your telling Ronn Rider what his experience is? Pretty sure he wrote that he, "only chest or helmet mount it and it works really well". I know that for myself, I have yet to have it go off balance or tilt. I use it a lot when hiking and have it mounted on my shoulder strap.
DANIEL Rogness Sorry, I meant I had the tilting horizon issue with my chesty even though I check 10 times during the initial part of the ride and at some point it goes off balance. I'm waiting for the cable to release so I can try without the grip. Not sure if the grip part is hitting the stomach at some point causing this. I really hope it's not a stabilizer issue.
1kaaa It uses the gopro mount built into the gopro backpack so I don't believe you would be able to use it with another unless it had gopro mounts on it as well. Not really interested in throwing out $180 for a backpack but the Karma Grip looks like a great addition to anyone with a new gopro
Let me know if you're interested in doing the review on the DJI Osmo. I have one that I would be more than happy to let you use a review.. I live in Ohio, as well and would love to team up with you to do a review on the Osmo for your channel. I'm just starting my channel and I think it would be great to work with you and gain some experience from somebody who has been doing RU-vid for a while. I come from a film School background and have been working in the movie and commercial production industry for a while. I decided to start a RU-vid channel to try to show what goes in to making films and the tools we use. Also, I occasionally perform Magic tricks, which is another hobby of mine.
