I upgraded from the Hero 10, and very happy with it so far. It’s better in almost every way, I never used the GPS function. Great review, you got some great clips with it. Thanks for sharing Shawn.
Hi, may I ask in what way you think it´s better than the 10? I have the 10 and thinking of an update but I don´t really know what I need more out of an action cam.
I never use GPS either. I’m still trying to figure out what’s the fuss about no GPS. You shouldn’t turn on location on photos anyway, unless you want to be found by people with bad intentions if they get hold of your pictures.
Bluetooth connection for me is a plus , connecting to my rode wireless ii or Dji wireless mic in relation to Moto vlogging, especially in rainy season.
So you can connect dji wireless mic to go pro 12 without any wires using Bluetooth ? I have read about connecting sena with go pro 12 but it keeps disconnecting when ever we pause and resume video recording.
I have just ordered this GoPro hero 12 black with the accessory pack with the idea of recording myself flying my dji mini 4 pro. Seems silly really when the drone itself records video but you can't see the drone, only what the drone is recording of that makes sense.
Sick Review! Loved the Content my Brother! I would have liked to of seen is an audio test that was more realistic from say a chesty riding a bike! I feel the super exposed position on the handlebars extended bar was a harsh mounting position for audio!
i was a gopro fanboy once before... but luckily i wasnt blind enough to realize it when i see a sinking ship and left all my heros in new buyers hands. (where i am sure they share my frustration every time they use it with endless freezes and crashes + lost videos) i dont hate gopro now and still think the video quality is by far still the best and sharpest on the action cam market. i love and expect nothing more but outstanding images from my cameras which left me rather disappointed than angry for gopro. i changed to DJI action 2 and 4 plus a 360X3 cam. all very good but i even with the Action 4´s bigger sensor i am still missing that last bit of clear and sharp video quality. i feel that urge isnt strong enough to go back to gopro (yet) thanks for this 30 day honest review.
I think the only reason to get a GoPro 12 over the DJI 4 is the 8:7 aspect ratio to be able to have the video in both formats. I ordered both and havent decided yet witch one I will keep, I like the DJI more in general, but in the end I think I will keep the GoPro just because of the 8:7 aspect ratio
Thanks for the review....I am in the market for a gopro and this review is a great source of useful information regarding a future purchase. The overheating and long lasting battery does it for me.
Good review: I'm considering finally purchasing a GoPro now that the image stabilization features have adjusted over time. I was just in Central America and now I'm off to Vietnam. In addition I'm a bit interested in mounting it to my jacket as I explore cities and parts of town.
I have been skipping new Go Pros since the Hero 9, as I don't get anything free. I have added the Mavic 3, the Insta360, and the Mini 4 Pro since then so the Hero whatever will have to wait until I build up a bit of surplus again as the saying of fixed income when retired is somewhat true. On the other hand the new DJI Osmo pocket 3 looks pretty interesting too...
Hi I just watched you review , I loved that you used the camera for the entire review. Question the shots you took going thru the autumn leaves, how did you do that it really looks like it was taken from a drone. Thanks Heaps Keith
Great review. Wish you had touched on the time code thing, filming indoors/poor light, and the cameras built in audio when when just videoing in a selfie format.
Thanks! Yes you are a very good reviewer! I wonder if you had the sharpness at medium? I think it´s a bit to much of it. I wish Gopro could turn it down just a tad in the medium setting. The low setting is to soft whitout adding sharpness in post, in my opinion:
Have been following, subscribed to You for a number of Years. Thanks for all Your help along the way! Have a number of GoPros and just got my 12. I use the Rode wireless mic with my GoPro 9. What cage do you use for your GP 12? any chance you can do a video on this? Showing how you use your 12, the cage and connecting your Rode mic? Thanks for listening! Patrick
I tried the camera, filming in my cockpit as I am a pilot. It shut off after 30 minutes and I didn't know it. When I turned it back on it said it shut down due to overheating. I did some trouble shooting with support with different settings. I let it run in my air conditioned home and the exterior of the camera got to 110 degrees. I returned it.
I'm pretty sure the removed GPS was just a "smart" way of lowering the production costs. It should not have mattered much when "inactive". However they seemed to have decreased processing by lowering bittrates drastically. Especially on those advertised resolutions with improved battery life (and increased runtime before thermal shutdown). Lower bittrate is less processing, less heat generation and therefore longer runtime. Besides that files are way smaller (which is a good thing though). But I did a test with the 11 and 12. Letting them record exactly 15min. on the same spot with the same lightning, so input and processing should be the same. And the doing this test like in every resolution in both 30 and 60fps. You will see interesting results when you take out the cards and putting all values of the recorded files in charts. 4K30 is actually exactly the same on both in both resolution and bittrate. Other resolutions and fps show a minimum drop of 10.000 to 15.000 kbps on the Hero 12 compared to the 11. 1080p30, the advertised resolution that would have an increased runtime of at least 2 times of that of the Hero 11 had dropped from 35.000kbps to just 1727kbps in this test. In file size: 3,69GB to just 192MB. I'm pretty sure they can have the same results on the Hero11 when tweaking it's firmware in the same way, but with still having the GPS.
Thanks for the excellent review. I totally appreciate your comments about the loss of GPS...they could/should have allowed users to shut off GPS and enhance battery life rather than not giving users the GPS option at all. That was super-disappointing to me...also a bit of a GoPro fan boy, but no longer one. Maybe they'll bring GPS back. I should mention that the GoPro 12 still shuts itself off randomly with a "ran out of battery" message even when the battery is 40% or more full. Looks like this camera is one step forward and two steps back.
Hi Sean (hope I spelled your name correctly). Quick question. If you had a choice, which GoPro version would you use, or what other alternative device would you use? Thank you for the great content.
I upgraded from the gopro 5 with the black friday sale. Had no problems with the 5 just finally decided to upgrade. Looking forward to using a newer gopro
awesome review!! i’m gonna try to use the auto settings to record Moto videos in this video helped me figure out what it would look like before I got my chin mounts to actually go test it
I don't really care about the GoPro battery life because I use external batteries. Since I use GoPros on my motorcycle it's a hassle to stop and change batteries all the time and I can get an external battery to record for 10 hours. Also my GoPro don't overheat when I use external batteries
I have just bought one of these to replace my old GoPro Hero 3+ . Looking at the videos on your bike, it is no better than my Hero 3+. So, looks like I may end up being disappointed. Thanks for the video.
Good video, but announcing that GoPro 12 cost $ 500 is misleading no? They are 399 and you can get them for 349 when they have a deal. Unless you purchase bunch of accessories with it, but then that’s a bundle deal I’d say.
Can you easily send the photos to your phone to upload? How are taking photos on this? I want to get one for my birthday 🥰🎉 Need it to start my content creator journey
Hello, I also bought a camera exactly like this and it doesn't work, I can't go into the settings, I also installed their app for uploading data, setting up.... yes, it doesn't and the camera doesn't work either. Could it be the fault card, not being the one recommended by them because I couldn't find it at the store? I have a SanDisk Ultra sdxc A1 of 128 gb, could this be the problem? only options for the selected language and confirmation appear on the screen and it shows that the quik app must be installed. I did this, it is associated with bluetooth, but.. that's all
GoPro are like iPhones and car manufactures - There won't be a jump from camera to camera or phone to phone or car to car. This is just a fact of life. If you are waiting for the 2023 iPhone or Benz to be that much better than the 2022 you are mistaken.
--- BE AWARE -- NO GPS -- It's a shame that they removed the GPS from the GoPro 12 under the guise of energy-saving (it can be turned off easily). My first DISAPPOINTMENT was when with the HERO 8 they INTENTIONALLY BLOCKED (via software) the function to directly play on the TV (available in hero 7) in order to sell the MEDIAMOD ACCESSORY (another $100), jerks!! (I made the mistake of upgrading my GoPro 7 without realizing that, something GoPro never disclosed, and it went unnoticed as no review explained it!!). Still not happy and thinking customers are stupid, now they remove the GPS to cut costs, spouting some garbage explanation about battery life. In a few months, they'll sell the GPS separately as another wrist accessory (similar to what they did with the MEDIAMOD). Brilliant!! We decide whether to buy this camera or not, and I've already made my decision. Thankfully, you can still buy the GoPro 10 and 11. I think this GoPro will be a complete sales fail and rightfully so
Love you by chance notice to drop and subscribers? I was wondering why I haven't seen you in my feed for a while and for some reason I have been unsubscribed from you and I know I didn't do that myself.
Gopro is about to disappear . Dji launches very good products, Gopro do not susucceed to create and launches each year products without any real innovations comparer to DJI. Remember the big failure with the drone Gopro....
Todays quality with cameras is exceptional, whether you get a fancy Sony , DJI , iPhone , Samsung etc all do the job well but on holidays when you need some under water , throwing your camera in the ocean , jumping off cliffs get a GoPro - In a nut shell you need more then one camera to cover all bases !
