Landover, Maryland, USA - 1994 World Professional Figure Skating Championships, Pairs' Artistic Program - Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov of Russia
No pair team has ever come close to these two !!! They look so effortless and coming out of lifts is so beautiful so effortless WOW !!! Unforgettable !!!
My oh my he was so unbelievably handsome! They were a beautiful couple on and off the ice, like no other. You can just feel their love for each other. So sad he was gone too soon and still feel so sad for Katia. RIP Sergei. ♡
There's a tenderness when they skate. This and "The Man I Love" are my two favorite programs. Sergei was very graceful despite being a big guy. He had great lines and power. The speed of their skating is intense. You hardly hear their blades on the ice. I have not seen a pair that comes close them. Katia and Sergei were just different. They were special.
Incomparable. Never again will we see this kind of magic in pairs skating. She stated that this is her favorite piece to skate to. I can see why. I have seen Rodins sculptures in person, and they are very inspiring
What a beautiful couple they were.. no one Has ever come close to the level of skating perfection that they performed time and time again… I watched them for years… so grateful for these wonderful videos… My heart still breaks,… I still cry watching these.. I often wonder what their story would be now if he was still here. God bless the family. Love you all …miss him so much!!
This is my all time favorite of theirs. Power of their expression supersedes physical power. There is a sense of ending in the wings, a bitter sweetness woven into the perfection. And it's a whole lot more powerful than anything Rodin could ever have done.
This is my all time favorite pairs program. It was so beautiful, both in concept and in execution. They made every moment important, and every movement was perfect. They were in such unison that I think they must have breathed together.
My favorite pairs skaters ever, and not just because of how awesome they were on the ice together, but I read her book , and it is impossible not to just love her.
Często wracam do tych pokazów.
Lately I've been watching all their videos and I read My Sergei so I am in mourning. I was at university when he died and my life revolved around my studies. Now I understand the world's mourning. I am going through it belatedly. Ohhhhh my!
Romance on ice! You almost feel as if you are interrupting a private moment of love and passion when these 2 skated. Every girl deserves a guy like that.
You know it saddens me that this level of love, intensity, grace, beauty, and flow will probably never happen again, at least not in this form long live G&G Legacy. Rest in peace Sergei.
Braselton94 Absolutely.. On both a professional AND personal level. Even Katia herself said, years after Sergei’s death, that she realized what she had with Sergei was oh so rare and a once in a lifetime occurrence. She realized that the level of trust and respect they had for each other, the fact that she had no doubts at all about him, was something she’d most likely never ever experience again with another man..😢She didn’t experience it with Ilia. From what I’ve read, he cheated on her, and she said that was something she never ever worried about with Sergei - the thought never even crossed her mind that Sergei would do ANYTHING to hurt her or to break the level of trust they had in each other. So darned sad that this type of relationship hardly exists anymore. If it does, I don’t personally know of them..
@@kimberlybellefontaine1215 Thanks. I read a lot of your comments. Ever since I found out G & G ten days ago, I can’t stop watching videos about them. How tragic and sad the world lost such a wonderful skater (a legend really) and Katia lost her beloved Sergei/Daria her father. Watching their videos just makes me cry. Usually I’m not interested in any celebrities or movie stars but this affects me so much. Their love seemed so pure and out of this world.
Susan Morano yes, I believe mine too. The other program I just adore is “The Man I Love.” Even though that one wasn’t performed competitively, it still sticks in my mind and heart because of its pure beauty. “The Man I Love” was truly their own personal love story..
I used to watch G and G when I was a little girl, and I hoped that someday I would find a love as wonderful as theirs. I haven't followed ice skating that much in the past ten years, but the recent Olympics made me nostalgic and I thought I'd come on here to watch some of my favorite skaters from the past. I'm thrilled that their videos have been uploaded here and so many people are still watching them, so many years later.
Who can believe 23 years ago he left this earth it only seems like yesterday time passes so quickly miss you Sergei miss you and katias love and devotion on and off the ice so perfect
I remember studying Rodan and his sculptures in the spring of 95' at school. I remember his sculpture called: The Kiss. It was I think their last pose here in the program.
i miss them skating together so much thank you for these uploads to keep me going everyday i watch a lot of these watch their documentary and read my sergei the book
¡Nadie como ellos, Sergei y Eksterina. Toda la sensibilidad y la maestria proyectada. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ¡¡racias por dejanos disfrutar su arte!! Sin importar el paso del tiempo. Ellos son atemporales. ❤
We watched them grow, we watched them win, we watched them fall in love, we watched them marry and become parents and cried when fate took Sergey so tragically at a young age, leaving his young widow, daughter, family and friends and millions worldwide. It was like a fairy tale but sadly with a tragic end! They'll never be another.
OMG... i am sweating after watching this. I actually cant believe they even did this in front of a crowd that no doubt what they just saw. my goodness..
Bnizzofashizzo Gordeeva and Grinkov were magical. They were technically brilliant but they skated as one person. When I think of Sergei, it brings tears to my eyes. G&G were in a class of their own. Marina being the master choreographer that she is brought out the magic!! Take a look at her present day record....D/W and V/M. Incredible resume!!!!!
I always watch Sergei during the throws and how he just glides through them, as if the throw is no effort at all. Most male pair skaters come to a complete stop as they lug their partner in the air, as if she weighed a ton. Sergei's quality remains superior to any male pair skater before or since.
+Gordon Anderson - Sandra Bezic is the commenter. She was not the one who choreographed the program. But some of the positions in the choreography are actually based on the sculptures.
+Gordon Anderson Yeah, Katia wrote about it in her book. Marina Zueva was their choreographer and she was inspired to create this program for them after they went to a museum together and saw "The Kiss". Their costumes were supposed to be nude colored jumpsuits, to look like statues, but that ended up looking weird in the rehearsal stage lol. They tried other outfits before deciding on the red and pink.
I bet she could not find a partner as good as him after he died, she probably lost a lot of money. Having to do it on her own and raise her children too.
Oh no she made tons of money, even more than she was making when she was with Sergei. The event “celebration of a life” on its own raised more than $1m, which in the 90s was enough to get you by for YEARS. Her book and movie my Sergei also combined probably made around that much as well, and all the interviews she did. The image of her being a widow sold well
