When I was about four years old my father brought home a giant pile of lumber and, from scratch, built us a swimming pool in the back yard. Once it was set up he ran speakers out to the pool from his stereo so we could have a little music while we splashed around. While in later years we played pop radio out there, early on it was all my dad's music. He played this song often. Now I'm old and my dad's been gone for many years. But for the rest of my life I will associate this song with summers swimming in that pool, that my father built with his own two hands. R.I.P., Dad, and R.I.P. Gordon Lightfoot.

@@haahnbalghan6556 race lines are far from fading unfortunately. The political elite and their ilk won't let that war ever die. It's too profitable for them. As the world changes so does the strategy of these evil sick fucks. But what remains the same are the core in country wars that always stoke the fires of hate and division. Money, race and religion. Surrounded by their hot topics and keywords to enslave the citizens into a backwards and horrible train of thought. And there are far too many malleable minds in the United States who buy their ideological bullshit like it is the hottest toy for Christmas. Bring back the 70s through the 90s. Race was rarely spoken of, all this hate didn't exist then. Our government is on task to take over how the population thinks and acts. Both parties. Hopefully someone puts a stop to it soon, I can't sleep well as it is knowing what my children and grandchildren will have to bear.

Ya know I wasn't born then but I long for the way of the 70s....I wish In my heart of hearts I could of stood at the heart of watt staxx and Woodstock and took in the unity...the beautiful musical stylings of Gordon playing everyone passing a doobie in peace. I was however part of the peaceful part of the 90s and those were great times....instead of finding ways we were different we relished in the ways we were the same and life was good.....I believe music influences how a nation lives...and while there are some beautiful promises like rap mixing with country or pop being married to jazz....there will never ever be a time again where instruments were played ...bands vibed out to 30 minute versions of 5 minute songs. Men were men...women were women and not what the new generations are doing....I can imagine one day I'm fourty now when I'm maybe 70 the stylings 9f Gordon Lightfoot will make a comeback and it will be a revolution in the black community to stop being so self centered as we are and become more open to everyone around us and their ways.....one day hopefully.... Just maybe I can see peace again before I pass away from this world. God bless Gordon and his music...

"Man, that must've been _great."_ I don't hear them play Eminem at all these days, but I've heard them both play _"Sundown."_

My opinion, but in the world of songwriting he is the number one poet of the last half of the 20th century. Such as Softly, "Softly she comes, whispers the breeze with her passing; in secret love she is laughing. Softly she comes in the night." Gordon can write and sing a picture better than anyone I have heard. He does it in so many songs.

@@EllePole -Yes...if you watch Jeopardy tonight, the current champ is this effete Yorkville snob who has that nasal Canadian accent...Other prime example is that Kerrie Keane actress (Devos in ST:TNG's "The High Ground").

I remember hearing this whole album, it was 1982. I was 5 or 6, sleeping in the back of a VW bug. My Mom and dad in the front seat. We were driving back from Killington VT. to NYC where we lived. Im not sure why , but it really moves me to tears today at age 47. Haven't seen my wife in near 4 months now. Maybe it's the red wine. But the music really bring it out. Im dying up here. Why are we separated anyway.

Most ppl separate out of disappointment…. Without realizing it, they’ve “loved as long as they possibly could”, not honoring their promises….. sickness & health, richer or poorer etc…. Like suicide, a permanent solution to a temporary problem. God heals hurting hearts & marriages. Don’t give up !

I was a child when “Sundown” was released. I had no idea what it was about. Lol. All these years later, I can’t get the choruses in the correct order: “It’s a shame” “It’s a sin” What a voice! What an incredible story teller! What a handsome Canadian 🇨🇦 ! So long, Mr. Lightfoot. Thank you 🙏
