Gordon has a lot of work to get Campania, a restaurant that serves gigantic, bland food, up and running again. Full Episodes from the Gordon Ramsay Back catalog. #GordonRamsay #Cooking #Food
this is truly the most tragic episode of KN, not only because of the passing of Joe, but because out of all the other episodes, this was the one I wanted to succeed the most
Yeah, the way his mother was concerned and his supportive wife and the children... The owner guy seemed decent too... really was hoping good for them. Get wrenching to see this news.
@@dizont Your grammar, or lack thereof, is making both my eyes and soul bleed. Please burn all keyboards within ten arms-reach. Thank you for your cooperation.
Gordon giving that old bag the business made my day. Literally just there trying to get attention while the camera was on her and probably loved the steak.
@@alexeasdown8944 he sadly took his life after having had to sell the restaurant in 2010/2011, there was a kinda big media attention put on it due to the circumstances
Of all the episodes I've seen I get the feeling that Gordon felt the most passion, love and care for this bunch. I've never seen him put so much work into a restaurant on this show. Tragic that Joe went through what he did. Genuinely not going to finish this episode after reading the comments about Joe. Much love to all his family and friends, not that it's of any consolation.
Gordon is definitely the type of guy who loves his art with a passion and I think his passion for this lot comes from the chefs being young, he wanted to see them succeed and do something new for the art. And also the fact that Joe was respectful and thought highly of Gordon from the start and didn't treat him like a hurricane which came to destroy his vision for the restaurant. I feel so sad that Joe had to take that step specially when he was so happy and hopeful by the end. I wish the best for his family.
I saw people saying he ended his life because of an affair with one of the employees that ruined his marriage. Not saying he deserved to die because of this but honestly an extremely selfish decision, to not only cheat on your loving wife, but also essentially cheat on your kids and betray and then on top of that killing yourself and leaving your kids and the mother of your children alone.
@@AronBarch16939 I agree, but that is just the state of America. There was even a law created to criminalise phonecalls falsely accusing others of racism in California called the caren Act. Can you imagine a law in Mississippi called the ceisha law. and pretending it wasn't based on the african-american name keisha
@@Teki2137 100% true. he sold the restaurant in 2010, and he jumped off the bridge into the Hudson. he won best chef in a few competitions after Gordon left, they did keep the restaurant open from 2007when this was filmed to 2010, until he sold it.
Gene the head chef is one human being who is fully human. He wants the best for his boss - a rare attribute these days. Gene - we wish you all the best in life.
People like that woman who complained about the food do this all the time, they go into a resturaunt, eat the whole meal then demand a refund to eat free. If the food is really that awful then why do you eat it all before complaining? If I owned a resturaunt or shop and some arkward customer tried to pull that trick on me I would tell them where to go, and let them know they are not welcome back in my buiseness.
I suppose it's always hard to find the balance between accepting actual feedback, and being able to stand up for yourself if someone is bulshitting you
@@GardenArcher7625 What I meant is, It happened to me before where I said the food was bad after eating, but when I finish my plate, I don't ask for free food, it's dumb.
@@egfasfeaafs3103 my family did once after the owner and servers mocked us for it after we gave a remark one of the noodles is cold. We were finish eating and was satisfied, didn't want the refund but they mocked and laughed at us for our criticism stating we'll ask for refund. We might as well get the refund we were mocked for "wanting" We went there like 10 times before. But then after that incident we just never went there again with how bad the service is
I don’t doubt it could be scripted; but I could see an organic scenario at the table where he doesn’t believe they’ll get fed but also doesn’t want to leave his friends.
Feel so bad for Joe. People who always seem so cheerful, or make things seem funny or entertaining, are those people who are fighting the worst demons imaginable.
@@dylanharris9270 Hard to say, he lost his family and kids. We don't know the scope of the situation, it could be so much more, and probably was. Sucks
@@jnssmnsnyou don't know that so why don't you talking from your ass? He separated from his wife, he was in relation with his waitress, no one ever said later happened before former and not other way around. And if it was its problem between those three people and not you to be sassy over suicide of man who did you nothing, committed no crime.
It all didn't add up with the wife. She was well and truly broken. Joe was laughing and joking but I think the wife knew how fragile he was. R.i.p. It can never be that bad to off yourself? Especially with love and family and health in your life. What a waste. Money problems can eventually get sorted. Sad.
If he was also addicted to cocaine and had mental health problems, that may have had something to do with his untimely departure. Sad, he really does seem like a genuinely nice guy. RIP Joe. ❤️
Actually being like that makes you a horrible boss. It's no wonder the employees acted like clowns and the restaurant was in debt. Also as if cheating wasn't bad enough and already makes you a scumbag, doing it with one your employees is never good for business. In the end he committed suicide like a coward. Good riddance of course, because that piece of shit deserves no pity.
Sadly the owner Joe committed suicide 8 days later after the restaurant was sold to Campania Holding Corp in September 2010, It later emerged that he was in a relationship with Jessica, a pastry chef who worked at the restaurant and not the waitress of the same name featured in this video.
@@sonnenshiro6045, nothing said he was a bad guy, sometimes needs are not met so you look elsewhere. Also, the pressures of life can make you choose the wrong choices but it's over now.
The woman arguing about food with Gordon Ramsay who has 7 Michelin stars is like trying to tell Paul McCartney he knows nothing about music or telling Lewis Hamilton he knows nothing about driving!!🤦♂️
People think Joe Cerniglia was full of himself and cocky but in reality he most likely was psyching himself to believe he’s more than he is. He probably felt helpless and weak, like many of us do only for him it won over him. Rest in peace Joe you’re a hell of a better chef than me and comedian.
What i really love about all of these episodes (besides they are all here on RU-vid!!!)is how Gordon always says WE, like its his own restaurant, eatery, hotel etc.
Terrible that Joe, The owner commited Suicide!! ... In September 2010 Joe sold the restaurant to Campania Holding Corp. Eight days later Joe Cerniglia committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge into the Hudson river. It later emerged that he was in a relationship with Jessica, a pastry chef who worked at the restaurant and not the waitress of the same name featured in the episode. Campania closed in January 2011. Joe R.I.P.
tbh i feel for Katie who got sent home. I know the industry and how they play favourites with their buddies. The one who takes her job seriously doesn't have time to be best friends with everyone else, so she gets shorted, because she's not as popular. That's all too real imo, it's not fair and shows real lack of leadership from the owner. It should have been one of the others who was goofing off earlier.
@@jari6560 yeah i doubt it. more to the point she's the only one who had her note pad out while they were having their meeting. everyone else just a bunch of kids goofing off there's nothing in that video to suggest she was the last to get hired
He actually had an affair, with the server, Jessica. Sorry he killed himself, but he was a naughty boy. And I could tell she was an idiot. There it is.
@@lonestar6709 So basically, having an affair is so noteworthy to you, that it was worth bringing up in a suicide? He's a naughty boy? You're a terrible human being.
The way Chef Ramsay shut down the "old bag" was such a morale booster. Anyone who has worked in the retail/food industry has had their share of "Karens" and can appreciate Ramsay's response. The customer is NOT always right!
It's worth remembering that it was announced beforehand that Ramsey would come to the restaurant in every program. So the customers are gonna act up as much as they can.
they were just cutting staff because they weren't busy. idk if youve worked in a restaurant but end times are suggestions. if were slow, youre cut. if we're busy, you dont *have* to stay late, but its suggested.
@@victorerickson9770 I'm aware of how it works. I have seen other episodes however whereby they were officially cut and so it was nice to know that they weren't.
Seeing this episode, and searching what happened after chef Gordon Ramsey helped Joe and his wife with the restaurant, is shocking to read the sad news..that he just ended his life...I feel sorry for the kids and I don't judge any actions..So sorry, for the family for losing him..
This dream business represents the way we tell our kids all you have to do is want something enough and you'll get greatness. No mention of discipline, business knowledge, and all the other complicated stuff that is required to achieve.
It’s weird how some of us fall in love with the owners and staff when they turn around the business after Ramsay’s mission is completed. Gives me a sense of belonging within their community. Most sad part though for me personally is when they end their lives. Condolences to everyone who are affected by this news. Remember to check up on your loved ones as best as you can. And no matter what they did, anyone can be redeemed👍
28:31.... That bird is a proper mug. Ive never seen a episode where the food comes bk to kitchen, and even gordy says there is nothing wrong with it. Love it when he re-assures the customers entering that there is an"old bag" close by
Depression doesn't discriminate. So many people, especially men, feel the need to put on a "brave" face to the world when they're crumbling inside. Too many men have been told from a young age to repress their emotions and not to cry. So very sad to hear that Jo took his own life. To those saying its a "selfish" or "weak" act; count yourselves lucky that you've never felt there is no way out and that you feel there is no other option. Suicide is tragic for all involved. Nobody wants to die, but depression can get so bad that living feels impossible. It's so easy to judge when you arent in someone's head, knowing what they're going through. I hope Jo's family is managing through it together and are finding some way towards recovering ❤
Damn. Probably the only owner that had such a small debt(at least comparing it to all those other owners with debts) and could have made it out got a fate worse than those that had it worse than him. Such a sad story.
I like how the restaurant redesign in the dining room was so minimal that they literally had to slap on a gray filter over the "Before"-shot and film the "After"-shot at a different angle in an attempt to make it seem different . They just added a couple Candles.
Joe's mom Pat looks like Sharon Osborne. She comes across as one of the best mothers in the whole world! I am really sorry to learn of the passing of Joe but judging from Joe's kind hearted and hard working personality, we can all see that he was raised well. Big ups to his mom and dad.
''The restaurant was sold in 2010 by Joe and eventually closed in January 2011. Joe actually committed suicide just days after selling the restaurant''
Oh my god I was so happy for them but then read the comments. Probably my absolute favourite owner in kitchen nightmares and the one I was rooting for to see succeed the most. Rip joe, such a pleasant and hardworking guy.
Food can't be that bad if they take it home. And if the only thing ramsey has to say about the freezer is that there is too much food is a good sign as well.
I mean, even if the food is mediocre, I would still take it home - after all I've paid for the full portion, not just what I've managed to eat during dinner
If you're working at a restaurant and it's a slow night you might get sent home in order to save on staffing costs. Especially if the restaurant is in a tough spot financially like this one was.
RIP Joe..his words ‘breaking the plate is like weight coming off my shoulders’..wish he didn’t feel so defeated and reached out for help..looks like that lively smile hid a lot of grief☹️☹️☹️ lots of love and strength to Joe’s mom and family!!
The best episode I ever seen. That was so funny, but read what's happened next. Damn, that's so sad and unbelievable, they all look so happy in the series.
I love it when Gordon knows right away if something has been frozen or microwaved. The cooks just look even dumber when they lie about how they prepared the food. You’re absolutely right that GR cannot be fooled nor can anyone make him look foolish, they just dig themselves a deeper pit of shame and embarrassment. He seems to really care about people and I don’t believe it’s just put on for his television series. He sets a good example of how to treat your boss and your customers with respect, how to keep their kitchens clean, and so on.
As a lover of garlic, I understand how balance is good, but sometimes a good garlic tomato sauce is excellent, I want to try that garlic sauce Ramsay mentioned as being O.P. but only if the garlic is fully cooked, raw will be a bit excess in a sauce.
What a great bloke Gordon really is honest direct and happy to help anyone in trouble who is willing to listen to him, mate God may always bless you and yours specially mom and dad who raised you to be what you are Reply
20 years ago my son, hubby and I were regular guests at an excellent little restaurant that was a 10 minute walk from home. My son is Autistic, has a warped sense of humour (just like me and his daddy!), and can be very shy socially and the two ladies who ran this restaurant had always been friendly, kind, and accepting of him and his differences from the first time we walked in there 5 years earlier when he was 4. One evening a table of 4 Karens was seated near us. Nothing was good enough for them. Everything they tasted was the worst thing they'd ever eaten. They were full of crap. The food was delicious. It was always delicious. They had been talking quietly about how they were going to order the restaurant's famous home made Tiramisu for dessert. They already knew that the whipped cream would be overwhipped and grainy, the biscuits would be stale, mushy, etc, etc. This restaurant was known for their Tiramisu. The only problem with it was that they had a tendency to run out of it because it was so popular. My son said that he hoped the restaurant would run out of Tiramisu before the women near us could get any. Hubby looked at me, I looked at him, we smiled and said "Done." Our dessert (three Tiramisu) arrived, hubby and I each took a bite, and hubby let his Italian heritage out to play, extoling the virtues of this masterpiece from the dusting of fine cocoa to the silkiness of the whipped cream, the depth of flavour in the custard, the home made lady fingers that were soft inside but still had an exquisite crunch on the outside, he went on and on then asked how many more portions they had left. There were 12. Including the Karens and us there were 10 occupied tables in the restaurant. Hubby asked the waitress to pack up four portions for us to take home and to then take a serving of this decadent dose of deliciousness to each of the other tables because he wanted everyone to know how exceptional this dessert is and that it's too good not to share. The waitress said that would be 1 table short unless we only took 3 portions home. My son spoke up and said "Well, you can skip that table right there." and pointed to the Karens. "They're eating in an alternate reality tonight where everything is opposite of this reality. They've already tried the Tiramisu there and they didn't like it so we're just doing them a favour. Mom, can we give them $5 so they can go get ice cream at McDonalds instead? They're trying to eat filet mignon with Big Mac taste buds." The Karens started sputtering, the waitress burst out laughing and, a minute later, we heard the owner in the kitchen howl with laughter when the waitress told her what was happening. The trays of Tiramisu came out with a big production. The owner was front of the procession. The Karens tried to flag her down but she came to us first, chatted with my son for a minute and then turned to the Karens. "I'm so sorry you had such a terrible time here tonight. The food is comped. Your alcohol tab is not. Pay and get the hell out of my restaurant and do not come back." She put her hand on my son's shoulder and said "Meet our new head of security. He never forgets a face. He was being nice tonight. Trust me, you do not want to get him riled up." " 'cause if you poke the cub you have to deal with the Mama Bear and she's a bitch!" my son piped up. I waved my arm around and cheerfully called out "Guilty!!" Then 6'3", 240 pound hubby stood up. He wouldn't hurt a fly but the Karens decided they weren't going to risk it. They paid and slunk out of the restaurant blushing bright red. The owner wouldn't let us pay for the Tiramisu. She said the entertainment value far outweighed the monetary value. About a decade later one of the women owners passed away and the other decided to retire and sold the business. It closed for a while and reopened as a cheap buffet that really did have crappy food but the old place was fantastic while it lasted!
@@ch4z_bucksyeah I don't believe that this happened either, but it was a genuinely entertaining read for me lol. at least it was untill the story got more unrealistic I suppose but I'm impressed with the fact it engaged me since I tend to skip comments as long as these so, I suppose theres that too
