It's like when people yell at someone it's usually because they want that person to improve and to be better. When they stop yelling and just talk quietly it means they've given up trying. It applies doubly so to any kind of teacher or mentor, which is one of Gordon's roles in this show.

There is a reason as Ramsy pointed out during an interview. For Master Chef kids, well it is obvious, they are kids, they are learning to cook so he is kind to them. In Master Chef he is dealing with people who while cook, are not professionals. He can be more lenient on them but still get mad if they really do something wrong. In Hells kitchen, he is working with professionals, who should know what they are doing yet are making so many mistakes on things that are so simple

@False he asked A question, the dude decided to act like an ass. If they are trying to become a good chef, they have to be able to stay calm and answer the question. That isn’t standing up to an asshole, that’s just being an irritating jerk. Everyone else isn’t backing down because they purely fear Ramsey, they are backing by down because they respect him as an excellent chef who is trying to condition them to a stressful environment. It is clear when Joseph says they should “honored” to have him in the kitchen, that type of arrogance isn’t productive. You can’t learn anything if you refuse to accept that you still need to learn.

@@Roma-kp4qg this is why I always preferred Ramsey's UK shows. They never used cuts in the middle of conversations, the camera would pan between the two people. That's how you knew the conversation was genuine and not cut and edited. That being said...you can't edit him running up and getting right in Ramsey's face.
