Yeah, I was pretty surprised by that too - expected him to just say "FUCK OFF THEN!"

Because he's used to Gordon's toughness he says "I think he wanted to beat my ass a little more", but to be honest that shows how much Gordon cares, as one of the Jewish contestants once said (who admitted to being a bit of a schwetter), "I'm a man, I can take it, and you know what, if he didn't care, he wouldn't break my chops". If he thinks your a lost cause he'll help shove you out the door and be like "What a shame". This guy he wanted him to learn as much as possible while in Hells Kitchen and grow as a chef because he saw p;otential, he just understand burnout as well being a chef. He was actually quite understanding. He saw a guy burning out, and instead of making fun of him, he reminded him and everyone how much fire was left in him and told him to get back to work and bring rekindle his flame with the passion he clearly still has. He saw a man who still had physically energy, but was mentally struggling, and he knew exactly where to look to find the guys emotional passion and bring it back. He reminded him HE CAN do this, if he applies himself. That's something I wish people understood about Ramsay more. More kitchens are moving away from the rough and tumble Ramsay approach that a young Gordon learned in kitchens himself through serious hard work, but those that still do it like Gordon are not trying to be straight mean. I think a lot of people who think Gordon is a straight jerk haven't even read about how people work in real kitchens... while his approach is becoming less popular, the drill instructor, in your face style has been going on in big, high quality kitchens for a long time, and the purpose isn't to lower the self esteem of the cooks, it is just to ensure quality. And anyone who thinks Gordon is mean has never seen him talk to kids on a kids cooking competition. He literally puts on the kid gloves and is a totally different person lol. : )

And then dude accused him of just wanting him to whoop his ass more. Total facepalm moment.

I think it’s totally normal. under stress, it’s just the fight, flight, or freeze response. If your body is prone to freezing it’s Your brain just telling you to take a moment to calm yourself

I have worked in a small cafe restaurant and I usually was there alone in lunch service, everything gets so extremely stressed but it did train me to keep a leveled head when I get stressed

Yeah it's very common. When the pressure is off you can step one level back and have like total control, but under pressure you're pushed down one level deeper and you forget.

It is an issue if the meal isn’t prepped because if something is missing on your plate and it’s late to serve then it’s gonna get cold

He literally tricked a guy into thinking they were playing a note wrong just to prove a point, he hurled a chair at Andrew’s head, and he says himself that the worst words anyone can say are “good job”. To him, any praise or recognition of talent is damaging. It isn’t just enduring the ridicule and failure, it’s the constant abuse he throws at his students to reach an unattainable goal. He literally makes people bleed to get the right tempo. While I can understand his reasoning, his methods were completely psychotic
