This just reminds me of the old saying, “if you go out and run into an asshole, then you met an asshole that day. If you go out and ALL you met were assholes, then unfortunately, you’re probably the asshole.”
Not sure John Danaher would hang around an "asshole", and he is smarter than anyone else in the BJJ world the past 30 years....Not too many Ivy Leaguers in the fight game.....
@@pulsarlights2825 Not sure Gordon would be an asshole to John Danaher......but I am pretty sure if he did run his mouth to John the way he runs his mouth to everybody else, John wouldn't hang around him, either.
They didn’t get your point bro lol. The point is Gordon thinks everyone else is the a-hole. Maybe he should look at the man in the mirror. The point is not that Gordon is mean to his coach.
He also thinks it’s funny, and that it’s very motivating and feels like Thanos but only from the first movie. Because it’s gonna be an interesting year
Nobody is lonely at the top. That's dumb shit people say bc it sounds good. People at the top have an army of other guys at the top that they fuck with and work with. It ain't a fucking peak of the mountain with no space, it's the top floor that many stand on together.
@@spikeboy101 Absolutely not defending the dude because he definitely strikes me as a douche, but I think in many ways that is the curse of being so good. Especially from so young as well. The last time Gordon was humbled in his career, financially, socially, etc. was a long while back at the time of this interview. And even looking back it could be rationalized away because in hindsight, he was on the rise. When you have very few set backs and are constantly being told you’re the you’re amazing, it’s probably pretty difficult to see any flaws in yourself. But it also doesn’t help that I think in every other context outside of BJJ Gordon is kind of just… idk… mediocre. If you subtract his overwhelming success in this sport he just strikes me as that dude from high school who never left his hometown, but still totally wants to pass himself off as a super cool guy. Very low social IQ, very high self-evaluation.
If you have a problem with everyone, everyone's not the problem, it's you. From Eddie Cummings to Craig Jones, some of the most universally liked guys. His own brother didn't want to be there. A person would have to be pretty toxic to alienate everyone plus his brother.
None of the greats are known For being “nice”. MJ and Kobe were ruthless to their own teammates, it’s well documented. I’m not surprised Gordon is not well received, he’s an absolute assassin. His success is offensive to his rivals and there’s nothing they can do about it.
That's not true. It would be of the group was bigger, but it's only a few guys. I knew bigger groups of scum bags than that. I just saw a story about 5 people who break in a house and murder an old lady for fun. If one friend said no, I wouldn't say he's the problem just because he was the odd man out
@@jfra4 His personality is offensive to his rivals lol, and everyone else. There's plenty of nice athletes who are elite, GSP, Bernardo Faria, Demian Maia, Marcelo, Stipe Miocic, Cormier, the list is endless, and that's just off the top of my head in the one sport I know, plenty of examples in others. The idea that you have to be a raging cunt to be elite is a complete cop out and a ridiculous excuse to defend awful people who continue to choose to be the way they are like Gordon
A few things we learned… 1. Gordon Ryan is human 2. Gordon is insecure 3. Gordon is afraid of that insecurity and so he’s an asshole 4. But also he’s the greatest grappler ever and so it works out for him
@@ramonr.dossantos5136 No you're not telling the truth. First of all you don't even know Gordon. Second of all he didn't lose three times to the same person. Stop talking bullshit.
@@HostGhost666 it's my DREAM car, work car and lifestyle car.. it'll make me more money and get through hard times then a possible Ferrari ever will .. actually, that's like the hottest babe out there too.. sure maybe nice to look at and nice to have but they'll never make you a fortune one day.. unless your a pimp or Hugh Hefner lol
They all came up under John Danaher's death squad. Not everyone can handle being great, and as Danaher himself said; I can understand it's hard and annoying for a world class elite bjj competitor that wins the vast majority of rolls constantly hear from an old man "No, you can be better"
@@tommcalpine6062 I don’t like him but how do you know he bullies people? Serious question. And im not talking about his competition. Im talking about bullying smaller guys in the gym. Ive been around guys like that but I haven’t really heard that about GR.
I felt every “ uhh “ and “ umm “ my mans was holding back a dam full of tears. You know how you just want to cry so bad but you gotta be a different person because you don’t know how others would react if you do? Yeah, I felt that
Maybe Gordon shouldn’t have been such a douche if he didn’t want his friends to leave and start a b-team. Might be very good at Grappling but he’s definitely got some character flaws.
Honestly this is cope. Having enemies isn’t normal, even in competition most competitors generally respect eachother because they understand what they are going through first hand. 14 year olds on XBox have enemies. Adults who are professional artists generally have fellows, if you have enemies it’s definitely not because of what you have done on the playing field. It’s because you have consistently made a competition personal and so people are now taking your actions personally. Normal artists have competitors even rivals but enemies means a huge loss of energy and efficiency to a bunch of wasted emotional nonsense. Resentment literally kills people. Many people use resentment as fuel to be better but then they have to cope with the fact that once they are off the Matt’s they are miserable and that is absolutely going to lead to bad lifestyle choices, some form of self destructive activity is bound to follow weather it’s drinking or sex or food or gambling. Nobody can just bottle bad blood that stuff comes out somewhere. This is why people who have been hurt in their youth often become addicted because anger and hate can’t just sit in your heart and fester the pressure must be released somewhere. In short fierce competitors are good friends actual enemies are enemies and they aren’t helping anything because that sort of relationship does not remain inside the playing field, it’s something you have to waist time dealing with.
This is what happens when you only focus and put time into a single skill. I’ve seen this with doctors, lawyers, ceos, professional athletes, etc. You focus so much on one skill you neglect some very important skills such as emotional intelligence, communication, compassion, etc
no dude, Gordon's just a dee-bag. plenty of all-time greats who weren't assholes, look at Marcelo Garcia, probably the greatest grappler of his era. Nice guy.
Some people simply struggle with social aspects of life no matter how hard they try. Not their fault its how it is. I think the constant barrage of roasting thrown his way is unwarranted and childish. A joke here and there, fine. But after awhile its just dumb
@@dariusjavidan5609 I agree but that is obviously not the case with this guy. You can tell in his interviews and interactions with others. He leads with his ego and lives with it outwardly
I see your instructionals alongside Professor Danaher I was surprised(!!) how exceedingly humble your presence is! Right now, young man, it looks like you're learning more about the darker side of folks🙏🏾. Continue in your strength.
I am not a Gordan groupie, but I have to call it as I see it. You know you are the greatest when all of the former greats squash all grudges and team up with the sole purpose of defeating you. It only confirms Gordon's dominance.
Huh? I think the only thing it confirms how much of a dick Gordon is. The entire team and his own brother left the best BJJ coach even in Danaher because Gordon is so insufferable to be around.
They didn't team up with the sole purpose of defeating him. They were already on the same team and based on the name they chose for themselves, B-Team Jiu Jitsu, and the fact that they make a point of always referring to Nicky Ryan, one of the gym's four owners, as "Gordon Ryan's brother", they were sick of being treated like second-class citizens. It is telling that their "About Us" blurb mentions an ego-free and safe environment. Even the domestiques on a professional cycling team get treated with respect.
Bro what is scary about this and why feel bad ... He has obviously somewhat of a repulsive personality. It's like Colby and Dylan Danias Act prideful people don't want to be around you
Say what you will… but I hope Gordon’s reign continues, he’s great for Ju Jitsu. And he has the skills to back it up, that’s the difference !! Come on GR!!
Gordon was an original member of the Danaher Death Squad. Craig had his own style of leg locking before he teamed up with danaher but they definitely took him to the next level.
I was so hyped when Gordon and Craig teamed up, even with Nicky rod, it was literally a crazy dream team that seamed unbeatable, such a crazy situation to see them all leave Gordon including his own brother.
@Flow Kite - Taiba - Brazil do you know this for sure. He seems like an azz but I thought he was just acting for followers. John Danaher still seems to live him
Those guys didn’t want to train with Gordon Ryan anymore??? Gordon Ryan should go tell them how great Gordon Ryan is. Then maybe they’ll be grateful that they even got a chance to know Gordon Ryan.
Wild how Nicky Rod, Craig, John, and even his own brother have hinted that he had ego issues and the schism largely happened cause of him but he's hurt they've gone elsewhere. Did he think they would never help his competitors cause they used to be teammates?
Like him or hate him, GRyan is not only the best, he is the class. He smashed everyone with a style. Keep smashing them GRyan, let the dogs be the dogs and lions be the lions.
Craig Jones wants to be the funny guy in BJJ but never betray friends that helped you get where you are today. A loyal friend is worth his weight in gold.
To everyone saying his brother and all his friends left him, Gordon and Nicky Ryan had a disagreement, which fractured the team. Garry Tonon stayed with Gordon as did many others including the coach. People see that Craig Jones and his bro left and equate it to "everyone" when it was not everyone. Hopefully the bros figure it out and the team gets back together. DDS was awesome. Also Nicky and Gordon are talking again so there is hope lol
Whrn you harass a guy in a high intrest fight like he is an amateur, and then say to the jiu jitsu comunity that their level is pathetic, people feel provoked I guess.
Gordon Ryan has accomplished what alot of people dream of being bit never do whenever you want the top you'll tear down anyone who stands in your way and vise versa so people leaving him should be expected
If 'nobody' refers to Craig Jones then you're right-they aren't friends. Otherwise you're just saying something we both know is false. What's a Gordon quote that you deem especially awful?
this is really sad to watch. honestly it shows how great gordon is at jiu jitsu. everyone else has to team up to beat him. but its so sad that hes solo
Sucks when you feel someone’s your friend and you get betrayed even at the smallest levels and makes you question human characteristics that’s why loyalty is so important. We love you Gordon.
