I listened to this album while tripping heavily on two tabs of extremely strong acid. It was an experience like nothing else. I sincerely feel like I was transported to another plane of existence.

@@mystikgleam9541 Honestly it was hard to differentiate between songs ending and beginning. I already knew the album very well, but time was crazily dilated so it was kind of like floating through a mist of Gorguts sounds 🤣

The cherry on top? They wrote almost the entire album between 92 and late 94. They couldn't find a label to release it because NOBODY understood what they were doing. They couldn't find a home for this music for FIVE years.

Even if this came out today, it would STILL sound ahead of it's time! The amount of vision and genius required to put together something like this is humbling to think about. The thing sounds like it arrived from a higher dimension of being by some sort of freak accident, like it wasn't meant for human ears, yet we got to hear it anyway. RIP to Steeve Hurdle, of course the mastermind behind something this profound would die prematurely, how the fuck else does life go?

*Considered Dead* from 1991 (first album) is my favorite album from them,listen on daily basis. Gorguts is awsome, like you said, they where early in the game of technical and experimental stuff. It was Death and Atheist that was earlier then Gorguts.

Atheist! Unquestionable Presence! Awesome! RIP Roger Patterson. RIP Chuck Schuldiner! Luc Lemay said that he would not be in music without him. Death Human. Cynic-Focus. Sean Reinert died last month. Floridian death metal on point. Great stuff

FYI...this album was mostly written n 1993, but there was no label interest. Insane to think that. Hopefully, you'll react to Nostalgia, the 2nd best song on the album. P.S. RIP Steeve Hurdle...you and Luc made what became THE groundbreaking album in metal...bar none.

This song is definitely crazy. “An Ocean of Wisdom” is an epic headbanger from their last album that’s a little more digestible. Other favorites are “Condemned to Obscurity” which has one of the best piano intros in death metal history and several of the pure OSDM songs from the debut

Luc Lemay is a genius and this song (and album as a whole) is testament to that. You should check out Sovereigns Unknown by Augury and On the Shores of Ithaca by Quo Vadis - two other superb bands from Quebec. Edit - this band shits all over Meshuggah

1998 You had to have been there, spinning Domination, World Demise, Roots, even Pierced from Within -- to understand what missile this album was. And this song is STILL the standard to measure against.

As insane as this song is, it's quite memorable. I haven't heard this song or album in years, and yet so many of the riffs are "catchy". Definitely one of my favorite death metal albums of all time.

Obscura is the wildest song off the album too lol. This album redefined metal and spawned an entirely new approach to the genre. It's not good, I agree, it's amazing and game changing.

I find their lyrical themes a bit edgy, but I often come back to it when I'm feeling disdain for the flesh. It helps elevate the soul, and alleviate the pains of "earthly love"

If you want to check out a awesome Canadian band. Then check out Eidolon. Formed by the Drover brothers. Both Glen Drover and Shawn Drover ended up in Megadeath. In 2005 they brought in Nils K. Rue (Pagans Mind) on vocals. They then in 2006 released the album, The Parallel otherworld. On this album they did a mercyful fate cover of the song "The oath" Since you guys are Canadians, you should check this band out, and that cover song, it is the masterpiece of all covers ever freaking made. This kind of experimental and dissonant metal is not for everyone tbh, it might take you a lot of time to really get into it but when you do it opens to a lot of new metal to listen to
