I just found your channel because I am trying to find a spring assist lift for my new trailer. That’s probably the most detailed and best videos I’ve seen on installing one. I can tell you probably been a machinist most of your life or you should’ve been. I just retired out of a tool and die shop where I had been a machinist for 41 years and the last 21 years. I’ve also been the maintenance and machine repairman. I do all the repairs in the building, including electrical hydraulics nematics but they tell me I can’t put one of their lips on my trailer because the sides are 27 inches high they’re only recommended for 24 inch high sides. I’m thinking I could just add 3 inches of chain to the end of the cable and it wouldn’t lift all the way to the top, but if it would just get it off the ground in halfway up from level, the rest of the way would be pretty simple to lift, I enjoy your channel and I did subscribe. I hope to have more time to check out more of your videos. I have a RU-vid channel myself on lawnmower and snowblower repair with a little small engine work. Check it out and leave me a comment. I’d like to hear from you. My channel is Jimsfixitshop Jim
Very nice and well installation guide. Very well demonstrated, and explained each step of the installation. Did not adlib anything, went completely by the installation instructions from the manufacturer. Best installation video I've watched for any job that I have looked up on you tube. Cudo's to this gentleman.
Great idea over all but with one big defect, the black plastic rollers eventually wear out and break down the centre by the cable continually running over the plastic rollers. I had to come up with make-shift new rollers after a year of use, it wasn’t a fun but long repair, if only there’d have made the rollers of metal in the first place, they’d never wear out.
Nice video Lee! Oddly enough, the first time I ever saw a Gorilla Lift was when I was at the Lumber Yard early the morning before I watched this video. I thought it was an electric lift of some kind. You educated me RE it being a spring lift. Very nice idea. Congrats to you for getting yours setup, and Gorilla Lift for thinking about it. Keep these videos coming. I am like you and do completely odd jobs around the house, and lots of times your chores end up aligning with mine...
Good job Lee. The only time I have seen one of those drop flat tailgates in use was the John Deere Service Truck. They delivered the new tractor then folded the gate down to drive back, same thing for regular service, showed up with it flat, loaded the tractor, and away. The lad driving that truck was only 20ish, I don't think he was bothered by 55 lbs...
Instead of boring a test hole, place your round stock in the vice, find the edge and center of it. Move in the “x” direction the radius distance you want to bore. Then move the cutter in your boring head until it just touches the work piece. Now you have the correct radius dialed in the boring head. Move back to the workpiece the amount you want to cut and bore out the arc you need.
That’s a hell of a nice video you made and a real nice job of machining the extra parts you needed! I’ve always wanted to get me a lathe and a mill for my own shop, maybe someday! Great video 👍👍
Great job..I think the manufacturer should have supplied a better job on their installation instructions.. they should be paying you for their lack of service
