PLEASE DO NOT MAKE MECHA REQUESTS!!! I will make videos of what I feel like!
--------------------
Gosei Gattai! DX Dairenoh! 五星合体! DX 大連王!
In a few ways Dairanger seemed to follow a formula laid out by Zyuranger. Both series followed a deep background, both series had a sixth hero join in, and both series has living mecha. Toywise, both series had huge mecha.
Dairenoh is basically the apex in huge mecha. There really hasn't been a single mecha this large since. Sure, Engine-oh with it's tons of add-ons or something like King Pyramider is massive in size...but Dairenoh is just one five-piece robot. For 1994, Muteki Shogun was smaller in size, but a much more solid made toy. Enough of that, though. Let's talk about Dairenoh!
Dairenoh is made up of the five Kidenju (気伝獣). These Kidenju are...
1. Ryuseioh
2. Sei-Jishi
3. Sei-Tenma
4. Sei-Kirin
5. Sei-Houou
1. 龍星王
2. 星獅子
3. 星天馬
4. 星麒麟
5. 星鳳凰
Ryuseioh can transform into his humanoid Warrior mode (武人龍星王) through the command "Bujin Henge" (武人変化). The other four Kidenju have their own formation called Tenkuu Kiden (天空気殿) which is formed by the command "Shisei Gattai!" (四星合体). The tray that holds the Tenkuu Kiden together has two foot slots so that Ryuseioh can ride on top.
Dairenoh is pretty sparse on weapons, though it does seem to comes with quite a bit. Included is a holster, the sword called "Daioh ken" (大王剣), Ryuseioh's staff called "Hiryu kon" (飛龍棍) and 10 miniature Dairanger pegs to put on top of each Kidenju. The Hiryu kon and tail from Sei-Houou can combine to form the Daijavelin (ダイジャベリン) though I can't remember a time when they ever used this weapon in the series.
This is the part where I talk about my feelings on Dairenoh. To be perfectly honest, I don't have much nice to say about it. The toy is too large. It really suffers in how it was engineered. The individual Kidenju are fantastic looking, especially both modes of Ryuseioh. Put it all together though and it looks a mess. The biggest let down has to be the helmet. It looks incredible in the show, but somehow the toy just makes it looks like a bucket. It's also incredibly flimsy for a toy so large. If you get just a little bit rough with it, just about every part will fall off of it. In the past and since Dairenoh, toys have locks. Those little yellow tabs you need to press to release pieces are crucial to keeping a toy put together. Here there are none. No locks whatsoever. This toy is meant to live it;s life on a shelf. Trouble is, it doesn't look good enough to put on a shelf.
OH! Don't even get me started on the sticker sheets. Three of them. THREE! It's like a frickin riddle trying to find some of them since they're all randomly scattered on the pages. Not to mention it took hours for me to apply them carefully (I maintain that I have the best looking Dairenoh in the world since nobody could possibly have the patience I had when I put these stickers on).
It should also be worth noting that my Dairenoh is a special giftset. Initially it was sold in two boxes, Ryuseioh and Tenkuu Kiden. The box is over twice as big as that of Gaoking's box if that puts it in perspective.
Bandai America released Dairenoh for Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers as Thunder Megazord. It too was released both seperately and as a giftset. There were a few changes for the American release. Sei-jishi was colored black with all green removed (except the dome). All of the Dairanger pegs were resculpted to look like Tyrannoranger from Zyuranger (or Red Power Ranger if you prefer). As always, the infamous "Power bolt" stickers were scattered on the toy. Some paint and reprolabels can fix this guy right up, but the Ranger pegs are something you'll need to get a Dairenoh for...
Please check out my Myspace Blog! This week I talk about this Dairenoh video a bit more deeply, Shinkenger 19 and 20, more thoughts on Shinkengold and the Ebi Origami, and spill a ton of beans on future reviews. By beans I mean hints... Henshin Belt??? blogs.myspace.c... or visit my page at www.myspace.com...
Please be sure to subscribe to my Channel(s)!! I upload a new video every week and subscribing is the best way to keep up with me!
