'Goshiki' Osmanthus - Osmanthus heterophyllus "Goshiki' - 'Goshiki,' a word meaning "five colors," is a truly glorious osmanthus selection. The mottled coloration and refined texture are at home in both formal and informal landscapes. In this video we elucidate both the cultural requirements and the aesthetic characteristics.

I have these planted in my front foundation bed. The house is directly north facing, so it tends to stay on the darker side. These give a nice pop of color without being too bright. As a bonus home depot carries them for around d $10 each. Wait until August and they might be half off.

One of my favorite shrubs. I have one in full sun a one in half sun and both do very well. Very drought tolerant. Stunningly color addition.

Can attest to the heavenly scent! Planted three on each side of front walk about 20 years ago, beautifully massed together, and alway looked great. Then several years after planting, we couldn’t imagine what that delicious scent was! Didn’t know they flowered, or had a scent - but nothing else was nearby. I love this plant!❤

Have they been growing for 20 years?
@suedepinto2016
@suedepinto2016 Год назад
Yes, they’re beautiful and going strong, truly carefree, the only maintenance needed is the occasional cleanup of a few rogue branches sticking out on the three that get a bit of late afternoon sun. They’re 5-1/2 feet tall now.

At Riverbanks Botanical Garden (zone 8b) we have a 25 year old specimen in full sun without issue. It's about 12 feet tall and has been limbed up into a small specimen tree

This is one of my favorites. I have 5 here in zone 8a in different parts of my gardens. From 8 hrs of sun to 3 hrs of sun, deer have never touched them. So versatile and dependable. Thanks Jim for spotlighting this shrub.

Hi Mike, do you find the ones that get more sun get better coloring? I'm thinking of putting some in a shady place, so more like 3 hours of sun, but unsure if they will color up as well there. I'm also in zone 8. Thanks.

@@saralee848 Hi Sara, the three that get about three hrs of sun ( direct afternoon exposure) have more white on each leaf instead of light green, which I like in a shady spot. But still show all five colors during the year. Growth is slower in the shade so buy a larger one if you want some size. They are bulletproof, heat, cold, bug,deer don’t bother them. I fertilize like Jim suggests, plant tone In spring. Happy gardening!

I like the new growth on them. It's like a pinkish orangish color. I have two in my front yard (full sun) and two in my backyard (part shade)

Mine is tolerating quite a bit of shade, a couple hours only morning sun. I’m zone 7a.

Just fell in love with this plant and its leaf color. Called my nursery and they have them. Little lime has to go for Goshiki Osmanthus.

Those are so gorgeous. I can’t wait till my garden grows enough that I can have some part shade spots. This is one plant id love to have.

Hi Jim, I'm in zone 10B LA county. My baby Goshiki has grown about 6 inches since I put it in the ground over a year ago, doing really well. It's in part shade during spring & summer, full sun during fall & winter.

Mine has been in it’s nursery pot a long time. I’m deciding where to plant it but I think it may appreciate a good amount of shade here in zone 8A, based on what I’ve experienced since having it.

How often should I water it and why leaves are falling during the summer, what do I do wrong?...I bought it very big and it stays half of day in the sun, but for a week the leaves started to fall down 😢
