You are a wealth of knowledge... I wish that you had a Bermudagrass Lawn for us warm-season lawn southern guys. I'll try to use as many tips/advice that you put out that can be helpful for warm-season lawns... Keep up the good work. 👍😎👍
My fescue looked good through a 2-3 week dry windy time ,and I even raised the height. We get some rain and a lot of it. I was expecting it to green back up and be thick again. Now my yard looks like the whole thing is dying. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Heya Pete & channel community: I have a young lawn, total restoration 28August2020. My yard hadn't seen hot weather. But "this video" spoke to me, as I am starting to see the same things ( up here near Boston ). I know that I need to drive roots, but I can't let the crowns die. Ty ty for sending us these tips. Pete is my long distance brother.
Great tips Pete! I got a trouble spot in my yard that gets full sun most of the day. These last few weeks have been rough on it. I'm a bit of a weather nut too and I picked up an Ambiant Weather station last year. Really helps monitor how much rain we get and how much I need to water. You can also add soil moisture sensors that you can place throughout the lawn to let you know what spots need more water.
Pete that tree taken out by the ice was meant to be. That flag pole is the finishing touch, plus you can see the entire property from the house. Top notch.
In other news. Pete's neighbors are buying bottled water since their faucet just blow a puff of dust when opened. All kidding aside, nice output from your well. I'm lucky to get 1 gal/min recovery rate
Love hearing you talking about the blades and getting into details. I’m in southern Indiana in the Ohio valley and we’ve been dealing with no rain and some hot temps. My fescue is showing signs of heat stress. I’ve started watering
Thank you for this video my Tall Fescue KYB was going strong then out of no where started to brown. I’m def going to increase my watering schedule. I also can’t wait to overseed with Cool Blue for the first time this fall.
Best sprinkers i ever bought is those rotor sleds , ill be up at 330 am to start watering and moving 2 of them around my 12k sq ft of GCI TTTF before work at 7. My wife an neighbors think im nuts , just got to want it!! Thanks for the coupon code!! Everyone have a blessed week!! 🇺🇸
From your experience, do these sprinklers “leak” or drip a lot of water right around it? I’ve been debating on buying these, but don’t want to spend that much money to have the same issue I already have that all the sprinklers I have bought flood where they are set before the rest of the grass gets enough water
Man, we've had so much rain here in Texas seeing you guys talk about heat stress just seems funny to me. Its not been hot at all and feeling like Seattle, Im over it! God Bless Pete!
You should put a strip of mulch bed like 6 inches wide between each turf experiment to not only separate them more, but to also test the mulch bed edge capability of each grass.
@@jonathangreenawalt5724 bahah come on let's not argue about silly stuff pine straw is not mulch... if I called a hundred people to install pinestraw at my house, not a damn one of them is going to show up with mulch nuggets... come on now, dont be silly Pine straw is pine needles mulch is mulch... I can tell you one thing can you go to Pete's house put out a bunch of nugget mulch and tell him oh hey this is pine straw because they are both a form of mulch... he ain't going to be a happy man nor would i..

Thank you my good sir for explaining the brown spots. That really helps out a lot for us cool season lawns that seem to be checking out. I’ll be out checking my grass blades tomorrow. Keep up the awesome work you do and God bless. Also I’m a big supporter of #teamjaxx on the Amazon, even got the wife doing it to.
That's something I've only heard him talk about maybe once or twice but I as well have myself and everybody I knows accounts set up to support team Jaxx.....you're making the purchases anyway why not support a great cause......great video as always Pete......keep them coming
Pete every year I struggle with heat stress in my yard and while I’m years last I would just water more which then would turn out to cause my yard to have fungus towards the end of the summer and I’ve had to basically start over how do I find the fine line of the right amount of water to combat heat stress while avoiding to much water please help
Pete was the guy that made me want to seed with tall fescue. Had my house for about 2 years now and Iv been working a lot on bringing back the lawn since early spring. It was patchy, full of weeds and partially dormant due to the thatch build up. After a mowing, manual aeration and a hefty manual detach (which was not fun def need a machine next time lol) over seeded with tall fescue and put some top soil on one area and peat moss on another, just to see which worked out better. And Iv been having some good results with both. The existing grass came back and turned green and the new seeds took just fine. Only thing I’d do different is get more seed lol. But to get to my point watering is def key to getting your lawn going and to maintain it in my opinion. Especially when the high temps hit. Got some simple gear drive sprinklers and impact sprinklers from Walmart and it’s working out just fine for my needs. Eventually I want a legit irrigation system however I don’t have a fantastic well like Mr. Pete does lol so I’ll have to do some upgrading before taking that step due to the water pressure. My end goal is to keep over seeding with tall fescue until it takes over and makes up most of my lawn, not sure what type of grass was already existing. Im in north Jersey and temps are starting to go up so I’ll be waiting till the fall for the next seeding. Good luck to all those trying to get their grass right!
Pete inspired me as well. My home is also 2 years old and the builder put down hydro seed done in spring if 2019. By fall it was all weeds. I did a full renovation by smoking off weeds w 2 apps of round up. The was a lot of wild Bermuda that I literally burned with a torch and now the best grass is growing in that area. I planted GCI turf tall fescue seed in late 2019. The soil left by the builder after they sold off the nice top soil is garbage so I have been working on making it better to grow grass. I'm still fighting some weeds and clover but nothing like it was.
@@southjerseypinball that’s great to hear man. I still have all my weeds that I mentioned. Reason being is I’m letting all the seeds grow to a mature height where it can finally be mowed for the first time. My one lawn is looking like a jungle but I’m letting it go just to be on the safe side and not interrupt the germination. There are some new seeds im still waiting on to catch up so I can’t apply weed control because I’ll probably wipe them out in the process. For seeds I used Scott’s tall fescue. I wanted to go with GCI TF but this is my first go at it and didn’t want to chance the investment and it failing on me. Being that I think I got the process down, I’ll probably pick up the GCI for my fall seeding. I have some round up that supposedly takes out only weeds and not grass. I’m anxious to see how effective it is so I’ll see how that goes. Growing grass is definitely a commitment and is not as simple as just throwing seeds down, that is for sure lol
@@Three7krew thanks for your reply. My best advice to you if you want to do a lawn reno is to wait until late summer or early fall depending where u live. In south Jersey we can have a some hot humid weather and long stretches with no rain. If you don't have irrigation and plan to install it, do it before planting your new seed. Planting seed now is a waste and will burn during the summer if u live in warm climates. First step is to get a soil test from various spots in the yard and adjust the soil as needed. If you have more than 50 % weeds, smoke off the entire yard in late summer w 2 apps of roundup about 2 weeks apart. If you can torch the dead weeds, do it and the charred remains will benefit the soil. Till and aerate the soil. Put do a good starter fert. Plant seed with a high quality seed applicator. Water often without drowning the seed or causing ruts in the yard. You should have grass by end of September tall enough to survive winter.
@@southjerseypinball thanks man I appreciate the tips! Front lawns I can work with to improve them. The back will def be an entire renovation and start everything from scratch. And I hear you about seeding now, it’ll just go to waste so I’ll def be waiting till fall starts rolling in
I wish I could do your well pressure tank/pump setup. My house only has well water, so I very rarely water my lawn since I'm using my well. I rely a lot on natural irrigation.
Looking great Pete, as usual! Thanks for the info, heat stress is tough. Parts of the yard will look awesome, then two feet away you get that brown stuff. Check it out, there is ledge there! So I water that area a bit more, seems to help. They just charge to much for water here in taxachusetts!! Lol! Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes that bear gets you! Thanks brother!!
@@garyhendersonhillsborough I only asked bc Pete was watering in the day time. Maybe just for the purpose of the video? I have 8 zones in my irrigation set at 45 min per zone so I start at 3 am and will finish at 9 am. I do see people running irrigation at dusk and wonder if is good or not?
@@GCITurf what sprinkler was that? Any way you could link the pump you used? Having a hard time trying to find that as well 👎🏼 just trying to keep my fescue nice and dark green for the holiday weekend cookout

Oh yeah. The black pump will push the rotor sled with no issues. It all depends on whether you have enough volume of water so you don’t starve the pump
Great video. I hate to see you install irrigation. Non-irrigated tall fescue in the transition zone is why I started watching your channel. There are a lot of us with that out there.
The irrigation is for the KBG. It has to have it. I can always plant fescue about anywhere to show it. I also have several neighbors that do not mind me taking care of their fescue.
At it again, Pete! Looking beautiful! Thank you so much for what you do and for all the info, and thank you so much for spreading that Gospel, brother!!
