@@janellejulianajoy The North always wanted independence. In lore they had fought a war that the north lost that forcefully dragged the north into the kingdom of Westarose. Plus they called them king of the north cause he wasn’t king of the iron throne. The quote “we know no king” means they refuse to recognize the king of the iron throne cause they don’t care about that individual, they only care about the king of the north cause usually the Kings in Kings-Landing usually didn’t focus on the north cause they thought it was a snowy wasteland. So that being said they have to be crowned. I mean Ned Stark was king but he never was crowned.

The saddest part is that there will be no more Starks after the last four of them die. I loved the ending despite all the obvious flaws of the writing in the last 2 seasons but I'm gutted that the show runners killed off Rickon - even though his death was perfect for the plot around the battle of the bastards. Had he not been killed he could ensure the continuation of the house Stark. Or at least they could have made Talisa not go to the red wedding or made her give birth to a male heir before the wedding so the house could have been preserved.

@@blackmamba6046 The way great houses work is that the person with the most powerful last name can give anyone their last name. It's why most people believe that Sandor/Sansa will happen in the book because Sansa keeps recalling Sandor kissing her when he never did. She can make him a Stark. We've come to know about the Starks that they are all greenseers in some sort of way. Plus, Sansa in the books is very much still a virgin ruling the Vale (Littlefinger had her marriage to Tyrion annulled, so she's a Stark). She has been for years now. It's why the idea the Vale will fight for her to win back Winterfell makes sense. Rickon is also still alive and just as wild, having grown up on Skagos island. Catylen is Ladystone heart and responsible for kill most of the Frey and northern men that betrayed them, not Arya. Not to say Arya won't kill Walder Frey in the books, but she's still in Bravos, and Dany is a terrible leader. Yes, she can conquer cities thanks to her dragons, but she can't rule.
