*Girls On Top "GOT the beat" is composed of 7 members* : 1. *BoA* (Soloist) (1st gen) 2. *Hyoyeon/HYO* (Member of Girls' Generation/SNSD) (2nd gen) 3. *Taeyeon* (The leader of Girls' Generation/SNSD) (2nd gen) 4. *Wendy* (Red Velvet member) (3rd gen) 5. *Seulgi* (Red Velvet member) (3rd gen) 6. *Winter* (aespa member) (4th gen) 7. *Karina* (The leader of aespa) (4th gen). *All of these female artists are under SM Entertainment.*
what makes it so unique is the chanting main melody that almost sounds like you're in a thriller/horror movie where you're at the theme park, circus or something. It gives that eerie feels although it's minimalistic
This is an iconic song produced by Dwayne Abernathy, Jr., better known as Dem Jointz, who's a multi-platinum and 3x GRAMMY Nominated American musician and music producer (credits include: BTS, Eminem, Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Janet Jackson, Rihanna, NCT, Anderson .Paak, DJ Khaled, EXO, 2 Chainz, Brandy, Chris Brown, The Game, SHINee, Danity Kane, TAEYEON ) and Yoo Young Jin who was a singer-songwriter and record producer for SM Entertainment (he resigned from SM back on 2023-03-15 after 28 years). He has produced and written songs for H.O.T., S.E.S, BoA, Shinhwa, TVXQ, The Grace, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, SHINee, f(x), EXO, Red Velvet, and NCT.
3:33 I don't think I agree. Step Back is in no way a mediocre debut. It is mega experimental which means it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but that strong sound also helped create a huge splash and showcase all their skills..which was kind of the point. This unit is basically SM flexing because SM is the only company which has housed the top 0.1% most popular talent since the 1st gen. BoA (1st gen) is known as the Queen of K-pop. Girls' Gen (2nd gen) are known as the Queen of Girl Groups. The sole problem with it were the lyrics....which, imo was overhyped. (Side note: I've found it very confusing that people aren't questioning songs like Typa Girl by BlackPink which literally puts down other women with lyrics like "I'm not like these other girls at all", but then call Step Back misogynistic because the song is a warning to a girl who is trying to pursue a committed man. I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but, in K-pop corporate sabotage is fairly common.) This could have been a much more empowering song and I would have definitely preferred that, but, bringing this up is avoidable because the whole "lyrics" issue is overpowering the performance itself and that's just a shame for a group like this. Nevertheless, when this released, it was everywhere.
a lot of people talk about the lyrics of the song and yes, they are far from good, but i think there are songs and songs, some songs are for dancing, others are to make you think, others send a message, etc and so on. That said, i love my "feminist anthem" lol the interactions, the dance practice videos, behind the scenes, simply iconic
When I learned about this group and watched a few times I realized something. With something like this; it’s a very limited time thing. Also, reminder that, yes, they are busy with their own careers separately, which they’d want to focus on. I understand the want for them to make something better. However, it’s like, “Why spend time on this ‘project group’ when I can spend even more time on advancing my personal career” , i.e. solo/group stuff. Therefore, they decide to make a pretty good song instead of an amazing song cuz it could take away from “more important” things on their schedules. In addition to this being a “project group” I’ve heard that there’s going to be a change in members at some point as well. There’s also a possibility that the “backlash” of this is why ‘Stamp On It’ has a full music video and mini album. Sorry for the rant, just wanted to put in my 2 cents, and I love the song, it’s a great song; I think they did the best with it with the time they had. Love the whole group and each individual group/soloist
In what world was step back mediocre 😭😭😭 ppl just jumped on the hate train cuz of the lyrics. Let’s be fr .. they were never gonna be involved in the writing of the lyrics anyways. Yes the lyrics were a bit disappointing and out of context… but we were there for the performance and vocals
I liked that in the beginning as they are separating from the one line into the inverted v with Taeyeon, BoA and Karina sharing the middle with Karina facing us they have the other girls covering their faces with their arms. Then they do it again when Hyoyeon and I think Winter leave the formation and the other girls backs are to the camera with BoA facing us. Hyoyeon and Winter walk to the sides their faces still covered and then the other girls leave keeping their backs to the camera to reveal Taeyeon and Seulgi who do their part. Then finally we've got Wendy, Winter and Hyoyeon coming in behind them with their faces covered and Taeyeon and Seulgi leave to let the three of them do their part. It's like they're saying yes we know that we are in this group but you need to pay attention to the person or people facing the camera right now because it's their time to shine. It gives you a chance to concentrate on one or two people so you can get to see how they dance and who they are before taking them in as a whole group when they come together for the chorus. I hope that made sense.
First of all, if you want to give your personal opinion about a song or video you've already listened to, give it after the reaction. Because to me, there's nothing more annoying than someone putting a preconceived notion into people's head. This just ruins the mood for a majority of people who loved the song and wanted to see the reaction of the others to it for the first time.
