I have to excuse myself, I couldn't really focus since I am a little sick at the moment. Hope you guys don't mind. Let me know what you think about the cover art in the comments!

I like it non the less :-) ! I agree by the way. Lester is a Schollary nerd, not a Warrior and that tiny sword is bad in both ways. For Templar and for Novice. I hope they put tattos back. And Gorn? Gorn needs to get more buff. He is that big, huge Bantu type Black guy. He needs, no he must be huge!

If anything, the orcs in the remake look less bulky than all the orcs in Gothic 1/2, 3 AND Warcraft. They look more like standard fantasy orcs that could exist in LOTR. I wonder wether they even put that much thought into the figures on the artwork. Omitting Lesters face tattoos seems like something you do when you have to put out artwork "quick and dirty", since it is a detail that is both complicated to produce an easy to miss if you don't specifically look for it. It remains to be seen whether the characters look like this in the game at all.

@vertigo7082 5 месяцев назад
True. In the end we have to wait until we hold that box in our own cold dead hands. However I feel different about the orcs, especially the comment about LotR-Orcs. I am not a Tolkien crack and I don't know much about the lore but I looked up LotR-Orcs and they all seem to look different, like there is no coherent design that bounds them together as one race of people. There is the big orcs like Gothmog and then there is tiny slender ones, hunched over, reminding me almost of Goblins. There are certain features, like their ghastliness, that I can see in the Remakes version of the orcs, but real definitive details I cannot see right now.

Milten looks amazing 10/10 would not change anything Gorn needs to hit the gym more Diego looks ok, but a bit too young I'd say Lester yeah needs different armor and to get his tattoos back.

The early concept was clearly inspired by Danny but I think it's good that they made him a tad bit younger in the remake. Diego looked miserabel when he is old in Arcania.

Another great video. I really liked your analysis about the cover and I pretty much agree on everything. While I also didn't imagine Lester as a templar, I'm willing to give it a chance. It might work, who knows? Also, I felt exactly the same about the orcs, they still look savage, but less tribal and more aggressive. Anyway, I think the cover is definitely good enough. Cheers!

I'm not going to talk about the minor things here, so here are the main ones. Even though the poster resembles the original posters, it completely lacks the atmosphere of the original. There's too much detail, I like the more abstract approach. Also, the original conveyed mystery and internal struggle, in the new one all this is completely missing, we only see the direct enemy, the big bad orcs. The orcs... Well, I really don't like them. The departure from the original is too great. They don't remind me of the orcs from Gothic at all, now it's just some orcs. The monkey-like features are present, but why did they change their noses, why don't they have fur anymore, also I would like to know what their legs look like (I hope they are at least true to the original), also what's up with their monkey-like pose. All I see is a generalization, I really like their original look and they changed them a lot. Milten was changed a lot for no reason, he looks okay but whatever. Lester has rather round facial features, I wish he had more pointed features like on some of the old concepts (in vanilla Gothic his nose was also a bit pointed), but that's just my preference. Also, I've always seen him as more of a guru than a templar, there are some old screenshots that were done specifically for marketing, so I don't see how that was the inspiration for him becoming a templar. Gorn, I don't like the way he looks. You can say his hairstyle is more military, but I'm sick of it, I've seen it everywhere, also there is a mustache-phobia here too (basically everywhere), for no reason :) All in all, I don't like what I saw, but despite my harsh review, I think we need to see it all up close and separate.

Even though I do like the new Orcs I always thought of it this way: every franchise has their own take on Orcs; in LotR they are corrupted humanoids, some tall and deformed, some ghastly and lanky; in Warhammer you have these mindless brutes, stocky in appearance; in Elder Scrolls they are very tame imo; in Warcraft they are these hulking muscle-mountains bound by honor and blood. And Gothics take on them is: monké. And I really liked that. The first time that Orcs seem to be some sort of a missing link, still having their animalistic ferociousness but also their deep shamanistic roots. They are like Neanderthals worshipping occult idols. What a fantastic and unique version that is! I would be sad if they ditched this primal/tribal aspect for the more mainstream "they are evil because they need to be"-way of thinking.

I agree with pretty much all you said. Personally though I would prefer the mage robe to be more "priest like" and less "battle mage like". Don't get me wrong, it looks pretty good/cool. But i think a priest like look would be more fitting of what fire mages are. Anyway: would be cool if the player could decide to put on the hood or not, for some visual diversity 🤔
@vertigo7082

That is a good point! They are indeed priests and no battle mages. I hope for a "workbench" were you can change certain small aspects of your armor.

Brother in Innos! This time arround we agree on almost everything! 😂 What happened!? Well, my only gripe is 1) why you no say anything about the greatness that the heavy templar armor shows and 2) while the medium merc armor does show some scraps, its also got some full fledged metal elements in the form of the chausers (leg protection), so, NC should receive a smithy this time around, I hope. Thank you for the awesome vid, and thank you for remaining objective about the orcs. Praise be Innos!
@vertigo7082
@vertigo7082 5 месяцев назад
Well I said my piece about the Heavy Templar armor in a previous video. It looks great but I feel the pauldrons could be a tiny bit bigger. Another thing: the dangling leather straps, which the battle skirt consists of (you find these things in the "pteruges" armor of the olden days, just a bit longer) were better looking in my opinion, but I will get used to it. However I don't know what you are talking about when it comes to the legplates. The original medium merc armor had them too! I like the orcs even though it is indeed a departure from the original concept. I wish some elements would remain, but they are not bad and you can clearly see that their inspiration mainly comes from Gothic 1 and 2 and that's most important to me. Well, you know how it is: Sometimes people agree, sometimes they don't. We all have different opinions. I for one hate seperate helm slots in Gothic games :D
@LandrosTane
@LandrosTane 5 месяцев назад
@@vertigo7082 then we also agree on the helmets, since I would want them as in Gothic 2, part of the heavier armor, not individual pieces. :) this way, you don't affect the character and design of the armor you are wearing. I hated the G3 helmets too in general. Also, this time, its the heavy templar armor. In the past, it was the medium templar armor. XD

What worries me about this remake is that is looks like they're treating the setting as just another generic fantasy world. While it never was that and it's what gave it its charm, the creatures you meet were animals, not monsters. The people behaved like real people. The setting and the game were immersive and felt real even with the janky graphics.
@vertigo7082
@vertigo7082 4 месяца назад
I really hope they don't treat it like that. This "realism" was one of its biggests strenghts. We have yet to see some gameplay so it is hard to say but judging just by the screenshots, especially the weird redesigns of the monsters, I too get the sweats.
@eldiablogmic6760
@eldiablogmic6760 5 месяцев назад
The orcs look stereotypical - not ape-like primates derivates. I don't get it: they made "most" of the characters almost identical, and yet they have changed the design of the primary enemy of the game. In my opinion, I liked Gothic because they didn't give a damn about "requirements" and fantasy standards. There are no rules to follow - as an artist you can make whatever you want, unbinded by any standards. In fact, ppl reward creativity and new ideas. The original orc design wasn't stereotypical, and I love when artist just go out of rails and do their own thing. Part of what made Gothic so special is that it was unique in its own way.
@vertigo7082
@vertigo7082 5 месяцев назад
True but a departure from the original design was, to a certain degree, to be expected. I love the original orcs, they are something completely different and I spoke about that in my earlier videos. However I think they are a compromise that I can live with since there are certain characteristics in which I see parallels to the Orcs of back in the day. Again, some design decisions I am myself not comfortable with but in the end it is what it is... Just a few minor changes to these models and I think most of us are fine with them.

@eldiablogmic6760
@eldiablogmic6760 5 месяцев назад
Wait... hold on. Haven't you noticed all the technical mistakes made in the cover art? Look at the orcs: they are copied and pasted and mirrored. Plus, the artist didn't notice a HUGE mistake he/she made. Look at the left. You can see an orc overlayered on top of another, copied and pasted in the same way on the right side. Take a look at flames on both sides - it looks like the artist placed them and set the transparcency to 40% without taking in consideration that flames must blur and project light around them. Light that it looks projected on the rock surface but the flames do not seem to shine what's surrounding them. The left sleeve of Milten's robe is different from the other. I may speculate that, since in medieval times poeple were right-handed, the robes have a tight right sleeve because it's more comfortable for casting spells, but the artist probably mirrored the model, and now it's the left sleeve being the tight one. I don't know what happend but it looks weird. Swords are planted into the ground for some reason, and some blades even stick out from the rocks. The orcs have weird giant swords which are bigger then them. I guess the artist wanted to replicate the two armies facing each other on both sides of the old cover, but those were spears they were weidling and not these... weird giant swords that don't look practical at all 😃 . Gorn... I don't know what's wrong with his face. Is he serious or is he smiling? No, please... do tell!
@vertigo7082
@vertigo7082 5 месяцев назад
Yes I noticed those things, I even talk about some of them in the video. However I am not too much concerned about the amount of work that goes into a cover art, I am more concerned with actual design choices, lore and gameplay. The original piece, the armies in particular, look copy pasted as well.
