A pro-tip you can do before accepting the pirate event is use every estate privilege you can that gives you stuff for only estate-related resources (loyalty, crownland etc) so sell titles, take patronage of the arts (maybe after scornfully insulting someone to get more opinion) and give out monopoly on wool for the clergy, buffs up your starting cash and prestige a little. You can do all that without unpausing and you lose the estates after a day anyway, removing all of the downsides.

There's a raiding map where you can see the provinces you can raid. Very helpful. Also let's you itinerary when you raid with too small a navy and miss a tile because your navy was too weak.

Naval Ideas are actually good ish now they give -100% naval barrage cost so for forts by the coast you can easily take them with like no rush, combine with marines and you can just pop in snap the fort and then pop off. Saw something saying the 20% modifier is down to 10%, imo that makes it not worth it early game where the tradeoff is kinda meant to take place. 15% i think is more balanced.

You can actually become Norse now and if you do I believe it gives you the ability to add +3 raiding range through the naval sailor modifier thing. But the event chain to get Norse in game is incredibly complex and rare to fire

Denmark being aggressive so early is actually a bad thing because much of the time Denmark and Muscovy will get super buddy buddy and basically lockout that entire region.

Doing my gotland - Alaska campaignt atm, and wanna do some recommendations for minmaxing ur pirate experience. 1) Do maximum amount of trade wars, starting with novgorod before they dissapear. No need to conquer anything in scandinavia at all, u can pass missions by many naval wins vs denmark 2) As soon as u can get the splendor for claims bordering claims - claim some norway islands near scotland coast - and conquer those+iceland 3) as soon as scotland is weakened - conquer the cores of THE ISLES as well, as well as some provinces to release some minors later. Same u can do in ireland as well 4) After u conquer portuguese caraibas- leave them a province to keep colonizing carribeans. U can even send them cash to save from bankruptcy after. Also switch to portuguese culture for future NW conquest. 5) next goal number one is annexing aztecs, and remaining golden provinces ASAP. ITs the biggest boost of cash aside of trade wars(mb biggest coz trade wars take many years to get european great powers to low war enthusiasm) 6) after u reach pacific coast - rush for tribes in alaska, u can get 5 provinces from them for free, move capital there and form Alaska!!! Amazing point is u keep gotland missions 7) Immediately all land in europe will be returned to dead OPMs - TPMs with no truce!!! - so u can easily attack them with war against the world CB, annex and release as happy vassals. Also after 5 years u MUST war against the world vs gotland to get ur monument back and mb get another vassal. I made this by 1596 8) The point of european vassal swarm is feeding them colonial provinces and annexing after. Coz ur capital is in alaska u can attack colonial nations directly one by one. So u can get all their colonial nations including North america(where u cant get any CNs even if u move capital back to bermuda). 9) After u fully annex all colonial nations of england / portugal / spain in north and central america, u can move to south america and split columbia, brazil, Rio Plata and Peru between ur vassals as well, but take at least 10 provinces for urself. Move ur capital back to bahamas, core 5 in each colonial region, and now u have extra 4 colonial nations and merchants for urself 10) diplo annex ur vassals, and enjoy 30-50 colonial nations under ur rule with zero liberty desire, almost all trade flowing to carribean, unlimited merchants, unlimited gold from ur colonial nations in peru and mexico, unlimited manpower, forcelimit, naval limit etc. PS: omg, i thought it would be a couple of lines to describe my playthrough))) Point number 9 is invalid, coz u cant form any CNs after forming alaska. But still u can get several CNs in every colonial region from ur european vassals

Gotland gets a mission to allow all their vassals to be pirate republics and yeah it doesn’t make sense if you can’t raid the area around them yourself

Build heavy ships immediately after first raid. You have low forcelimits, and with the number of countries constantly attacking you, you need the heavies. They kick so much butt.

Best idea groups to start with? :D

Go monarchy first and get the Austrian gold. Then go republic or pirate after your king dies "you get another event". If you get a regent rather then regency after the kings death, you can declare the union war against Denmark. And then go trade republic or pirate. But you need to have a claim on Blekinge to unlock the union war mission PS: if you go trade republic you can join the HRE right away

Not being able to ally anyone is a huuuuge malus simply in terms of preventing coalitions not to mention calling people in for favors and making wars much easier, I don't get the fuss about 20% morale, it should have stayed at 20% I think. Would've stood out more too

im playing great horde to golden horde to mongolian empire for the first time.. im a bit disappointed that i get no new missions or abilities or national ideas as mongolian empire.. apart from a few minor increases in stats for government change that im not even sure if were improvements or not.. am i missing a dlc that adds more to this nation?

the privateers way values have pretty much been halved. in my own run i prospered and took all of denmark and half of sweden before being completely annihilated by a super powerful commonwealth.
