I started wearing wristguards when I went down to block a curve in the dirt and came up with a golf ball sized welt on my wrist for a week. Tape didn't help it too much. Wasn't cause I was scared to miss a catch. It's because curveball have top spin and don't bounce all the way up to your chest
Depending on if it’s a LHP or RHP u need to angle your body to match the angle of the spin too. If it’s a RHP curveball, from the catchers pov it’ll bounce slightly to your left.
