You set the new standard for Abblasen. I never thought that this intonation at this speed was possible without holes. And above all you made music. Fantastic performance.
Truth is: when the projection musical ideas, shapes and gestures becomes stronger, intonation is not an issue anymore. We have to move the listeners mind and not the indicator on the tuning machine. So, thank you for listening with a free mind!
naturaltrumpet84 Well said! This is not something we usually think about, we just do it when we feel it. Thank you for giving language to something felt-that, too, is a gift.
It is this type of performance that is most authentic. They did not have tone holes then and this shows the possibility of in tune playing with these instruments. I assume the style of mouthpiece allows for tuning the f and f# tones
I started playing trumpet in the 6th grade. I played in high school and college. I performed with The Commodores, Earth Wind and Fire, just to name two of the most outstanding groups of musicians I have had the privilege to perform with. I can't do what that guy just did...and it's not like I haven't tried!!!
Julian! Wahnsinn was du raushaust!
This man nails it! And then imagine that Gottfried Reiche himself died after playing "Preise dein Glücke, gesegnetes Sachsen". ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lYI9wiHosM0.html
mjarail It’s not as clean as the CBS piccolo one, but that’s expected since this dude did it without vent holes. The sound of the natural trumpet probably works better but that’s up to the individual.
@@Mr.H_34 Wynton is a fine artist. Julian gives a masterful performance here. Let's enjoy and value both, please. I have never seen Wynton touch a natural trumpet. The trumpet that Wynton plays and the one here are entirely different animals.
Because there are no valves you can only play harmonics. Some harmonics are very out of tune. To an extent these can be corrected with the embouchure but the higher the harmonic the more difficult it is to even correct it a little bit. The most out of tune harmonic is the 4th over the root note (also coincidentally the 4th note played in the video) which is basically a quarter tone to high. The 6th above the root note is also very out of tune (by coincidence also the 6th note in the video). By out of tune I mean compared to equal temperament by the way.
I would have preferred to have heard the performance without 6 seconds of reverb smeared all over it. Empty churches are not good for this type of music. Add some people to soak up reflections, or use a smaller room, and it would help a lot.
