Just been wild camping last night in Peak District. No right to camp, no problem! Did it anyway!

Dartmoor was my playground during the 1960s and I camped just about everywhere on it without any hassle. Needless to say although I have lived in the Midlands for 52years I am not best pleased with the government's smoke screen of a response, which is quite frankly one of there usual go to when confronting them about any subject that hasn't got anything in it for them. Trust me when I say if the public decided to hold a series of mass camp outs up and down the land, they would be treated with the same contempt that's reserved for striking doctors & nurses, posties, and railway workers, but it would get their attention. Personally I am going to file it under my ever expanding heading of 1000 reasons not to vote Conservative, and would suggest anyone who cares about this country do the same.

Yet people will keep on voting for the same old two parties and wonder why this keeps on going on

I was lucky to have been able to do a 10 week work experience as part of my degree, at a USA national park. It was one of the smaller ones, but was 110 miles long, and 20 miles wide, covering part of the Appalachian mountains in Virginia (Imagine the Pennines but completely covered in trees).Once you have seen such a place, it makes our national parks look like they are not even national parks. I think Britain might be unique in the world, where our national parks are not state owned and fully dedicated to nature and recreation, but instead privately owned farm fields. 🤔Surely if this is to be the case they should be alongside rules that make it at least resemble slightly a national park, and also at least a % of the land within the national park should be publicly owned and with wild camping rights etc. Another great video! 👍

Camping IS recreation. If you go out for a walk that is long enough to last overnight and you want to sleep for a while, then there isn’t a moment between one recreation and the other, when the bit in the middle suddenly ISN’Trecreation. The camping bit is an integral emotional part of the recreational experience because it enhances the experience. The judge allowed himself to be manipulated on this aspect.

Bloody politicians. They don't care about any of this - it's just words that have no relevance to the matter at hand. Thank you again for the time and effort you put into this so we may understand it better. Next month I'm heading to Scotland for a week of kayaking and camping safe in the knowledge the Scots know what they are doing and understand what it means to be able to enjoy the natural world. 🙏

Think of another way to go about this. Who is the problem GOVE ? He is MP for Surrey Heath. Why not leaflet drop the people in his constituency and make them aware of his behaviour. Appeal to them and if they don't respond then you know that it's them who are the problem and the ones to target. Keep making it hot for them. Till something gives. I remember as a lad in the fifties my parents taking us camping all over England. What a fine education this was at no cost to the community. Sadly youngsters today will never know this, unless they do it virtually in cyberspace.

Great research

Petitions are not only a waste of time but they are negative. It is like asking your abuser to please stop and change their behaviour - it’s acknowledgibg that you need someone’s/their permission to do or not do something. Stop petitioning and instead, stop complying.

Thank you for the information!! Really sad about Dartmoor. By the way, pointing to other documents instead of addressing issues is a classic "corporation style" dealing with anything where making policies become a policy instead of actually doing anything.

I've been a walker, climber, caver and canoeist for over 50 years so of course I'm a strong supporter of the right to roam BUT: Bear in mind we have a large population on a small island and these days there are many people that have not one single iota of respect for others, so getting people to excercise the right to roam whilst at the same time also taking full care of farmers' needs, farm and wild animal safety and the state of footpaths and fences is becoming more and more a problem year by year. It's always MY rights for some people not Everyone's rights including the farmers. ALL OF US need to address this.

And please take after your self rubbish, then you finished camping. Last time I was in Queen Elizabeth National Park in Scotland. I see people living rubbish, empty bottles, cans, and other items. It's not difficult to take rubbish in empty rubbish bags.

Sadly, large numbers of people wreck the land, having no respect for the land, or those that earn their living from it.

Excellent video. I can understand your reservations regarding the crowd funder for Dartmoor National Park Authority. However it is my understanding that they are the only people able to appeal Darwall & Darwall Vs DNPA. Left to their own devices I am convinced that DNPA would have been more than happy to let the right to wild camp lapse and be replaced with the pay to play permissive system now in place (there is a school of thought that this was DNPA's intention all along). However the protest movement that has grown on the back of Darwall & Dawall Vs DNPA has forced DNPA to re - assess its position resulting in the unanimous decision taken by DNPA to appeal. As one of the protesters who turned on the day that DNPA took the decision to appeal I can assure you that I and the three thousand like minded souls who made their position clear at Cornwood will hold DPNA to account.

It is all about who you know and money going to money...the government have proved time and again that they do not care about the "people' It is heart breaking to see them basically do whatever they want with our country.😩Thank you for shining a light on the issue.

So, in essence, this wealthy landowner does not want to stop people camping in his land. He just wants paying for it….🤷‍♂️so really it is just all about money…wealthy land owners buying up vast areas of our national parks…..back to Victorian values….landowners v. the serfs

They actually use AONBs in this response?! Wow bloody hypocrisy I live in West Kent inbetween Maidstone and Sevenoaks but the tories have been pushing this "Borough Green Garden City" plan with Crest homes for years now, but the village of Borough Green and surrounding villages are in an AONB however they don't care about that, nor will they make any extra infrastructure like road/bus networks/schools/doctor practices/sewage/etc in the area for the 10,000 homes being proposed, naturally the whole community are against it and hopefully we will have the sense to vote against them in the upcoming elections, best of luck for your petition, I've just signed it.

Given that the wealthy landowners are almost certainly Tory voters or donors, what response did you expect? The Tories will always look after their own and to hell with everyone else Come up to Scotland, you'll be more than welcome and we've got plenty of room for you here.

Me and my son used to love our camping trips on Dartmoor. I'm glad he's not alive to hear this scandal. :(

Thank you for explaining the latest news on the Dartmoor wild camping issue. Wild camping rights for England and Wales should be the same as in Scotland !

I will camp wherever I feel like in the countryside. The government do not own the country anymore than a Butler owns the house he works in.

Seen a few of your videos... You seem a true rebel with a cause ! I am Belgian but looking forward to go camping in G;B hopefully somewhere this year or the next. Gotta go to Spain first, build an organic home... Always great to see someone rightfully going against the establishment. There are areas of public land (Landlocked) which could be used, if there was a way to access them, but this is impossible since they are surrounded by private land, with no public roads or trails to reach them.

The public needs to do what the Barons did that allowed them to have a say over the governance of the nation, we the commoners need to enact our own Magna Carta

I am a Scot now living in New Zealand; in Scotland, I walked climbed, and fished for wild trout as of right; one respected if sheep were being mustered and or if stalking was in progress and skirted the activity or left the area. Here in NZ our national parks and reserves are freely available to all and all activities are OK, this includes wild camping. If you fish for trout or salmon then a license is required. In England and Wales since the time of king John, public access has been progressively restricted, and the privatization of land by aristocracy advanced to modern times. With the two houses of the government, Commons and Lords, trying to change this situation is next to impossible. The population could make change possible I believe that only with a massive show of hands, 70 /80% has any chance. So go ahead, set up after dark, leave early and leave no trace, and to hell with the law. The very best of British luck!

If you know who you you have more ownership over any land than any bank or alledged land owner....

Wild camped for years; never damaged, lit fires (well never lit on-ground fires, my lil jet stove doesn't count) or left a trace. But once again rich people who own the 99.5% of the UK spend their money on getting mates who sit on nice green benches in a stuffy old building to do as they demand. Keep on wild camping, keep on trespassing. They've no intentions of listening to words, only action will make them pay attention.

Best you could hope from the tories is for them to say "yes but not in the privately owned bits" and then see them sell off every scrap of national park they could find and probably make a few more bits. It's kind of funny that the places you are allowed to camp in scotland is on the balmoral estate even though it was the queens summer retreat.

It was passed in Scotland, the right to roam , the trossachs national park you do not have the right you pay to camp and their power is expanding to even more land, the whole of loch lomond loch Katrine and half of loch long plus more, yet mobile homes and huts are allowed to be built, greedybig bucks.

Northern Ireland is very chilled. You can camp wherever, at least, I have and have never had problems for 30 years!

I work with the police , I asked "what would happen if it was made illegal" ? I.E Trespass.. If a landowner found camping on his land and asked you to leave and you said NO ... what would happen ? I was told ," not a lot , we are far to busy to be scowering over the moors for trespass" ..As a responsible wild camper I am NOT saying trespass , but there would be very little thay may do , if you do ..

The problem with this is that the government are the land owners, they and their funders are the majority of the people who own the land in this country so there is no way they are going to support any action which prevents Joe public from camping and wondering on their land. We need an alternative government before any of this crap will stop. Where are they.

Can you no longer wild camp in Snowdonia national park then? The rules there used to be that you had to camp either 500 feet from a main road, or out of view of a main road. I used to sometimes camp next to a lovely river just off of the A5 between Llanberis and Carnarvon, and a couple of times watched otters playing in the river near my tent.

You’ve must take recognition of the governments move through local authorities to impose he WEF’s mandate of city zones, 15 or 20 minute areas, where in time you won’t be able to leave unless you have a permit, this is out there in plain site just look up the talk’s given in Davos. Therefore there is no need for wild camping, hill walking or anything else in the countryside. Remember the WEF slogan you will own nothing but be very happy unless of course you are very rich and actually own everything that the general public will have to rent.

All privately owned land in the 'National Park' ( not sure whether this is a paradox or a oxymoron) should be confiscated to the State, there should not be any privately owned land in a National Park, nor should the Government be selling off land within a National Park.

I mostly camp on campsites because it helps the local economy. I don't think we're ever going to get to stage in UK where government agrees to camping because the way our laws are set up whoever OK it would be liable for any injuries or anything like that. It comes with responsibility its not as easy as just saying oh yes okay you can camp. Also I'm sure this gentleman who initially pisssed me off is sick of people thinking they can do what they want on his land and is probably making a statement. If not making doe on the side somehow too. I'm also pretty sure if you respect his land and don't light stupid massive fires have raves or park 20 vehicles indefinitely he wouldn't have a problem with somebody discreetly camping on their way through his land on a hike or something. If he noticed at all. Keep calm and carry on I say. 😊🤟

Try a Freedom of Information request to find out what the landowners are being paid. Britain has been a feudal country since 1066. The vested interests are vested at every level. Except perhaps in the Labour Party.
