This video was taken when Eugene Talmadge went on offensive against the New Deal in 1936. This is from the Sherman Grinberg Library. I do not claim to own this video.
If the 19th century had gone on for another 100 years, Eugene Talmadge might have had a point. The problem is that the U.S. ran head-on into the complexities of modern industry, finance, and war between 1900 and 1945--and if there had been no strong federal government keeping things reasonably centered, the state of Georgia and the rest of the country might well have ended up like third world republics.
Which is why he lost the 1936 & 38' races for the US Senate. He wasn't the "demagogue " he's made out to be as he took a unpopular stand on Roosevelt and the New Deal.
