Definitely a grab and go computer/gaming device. I'll have 2 desktop setups in the house so I can dock whenever. Can picture hooking to my 60" TV and enjoying big screen gaming. With my Steam library and emulators, this is a great Switch alternative.
And like 5 times more powerful, you know the mclassic? Yeah, it's an upscaler, imagine using that with this, pretty sure you can go up to 1440p with 720p
The best thing about Win2 or Win3 is that you have an instant access to your entire PC library for free right from the box with no need to wait couple of years for a port of an older game and to pay $60 for it once again.
I remember watching videos on the Viliv S5 and dreaming of all the things I could do with it. Now it's like 12 years later and I will soon have this thing. It performs as well as my 6 year old desktop. Insane.
I used to look up videos of the Viliv S5 all the time, it was my dream UMPC. I remember seeing a video of if playing The Binding of Isaac pretty well. Finally got my hands on one in 2014 or so and was fairly disappointed (though not surprised) with the lack of performance. I really appreciate what GPD is doing, making my childhood dreams come true.
I remember playing dark souls 3 on the previous generation of this game on my 2 hour bus ride to work everyday. This isn’t something you’d be able to reliably to streaming it. I got like a 30 second vid of it on my channel. Let’s not underestimate the hardware of this. This is amazing
GPD Win3: Core i5 and new Intel mobile graphics capable of running Unreal Engine 4 at remarkable framerate. The reviewer: showing gaming capabilities of the devices playing Celeste that runs perfectly even on Win1. Thanks for the vid anyway.
If you want something for productivity, you're better off with the Win 2. Bigger screen, around 20-25% lighter, has a physical keyboard, form factor is the same as a 3ds xl so easier to find a hard case for better portability.
@@techfreakjamesAgreed. I own a GPD Win 2 also. Planning on selling it though. I prefer the newer chipset and features that the GPD Win 3 offers. I plan on using this with my NexDock 360 and desk monitors setups. One computing device that suits all my needs it seems. Defininitely more powerful than my Surface Pro 4.
There should be an option for keyboard for the shift/control keys to be pressed in toggle mode - one pressed the key stays on until the next key is pressed
for people who really doesnt know plugins install joytokey and turn to gamepad mode yhen use rear bumpers as shift ctrl alt I am doing that on my gpd win and its amaaaazing
I held back on gpd winds, just because of the clam shell design. I had a gpdxd and lasted a good amount of time until the screen blacked out from the hinge hardware. The clamshell design is just not worth for such premium tech. But this now has my intrest.
the problem with the keyboard could use a feature where you leave the shift button down for 1 second so it stays pressed as you type another key. that way you can type those keys on the same area without stretching out your fingers. there should also be a setting adjusting the length of time for the shift keys to stay pressed to register as still being pressed as you type. still bummed about all these umpcs / mini pcs with sideways boot menus and the same issues under linux with fixing screen rotation and no touch or other things not working. how many years has it has been? (probably over a decade now on these particular systems.) and we still have these issues under linux. and drivers may / may not eventually come for it.
it may for easy mobile carry if you look for high-performance gaming better off going buy the game laptop. plus smaller screen make have more performance
Yeah, sadly they didn't really make it as a split keyboard with actual physical keys similar to Blackberry. That capacitive keyboard isn't really good for any long term typing, even for quick messaging will be a chore to use. I hope the next version of the same form factor design, they will make it as a split thumb keyboard that uses actual keys and not capacitive, reminds me of Blackberry and Sidekick back in the day.
did they ever fix the button mapping issue from the gpdwin 2? what are the buttons mapped to? on the gpd win 2 the a b x and y buttons were mapped to the arrow keys on the keyboard and the trigger buttons were hard to custom map anything to because the R2 was mouse speed and the dpad was mouse scroll up and down. Custom mapping for the controller buttons i wish was an added feature for this device
So is it black or gray? It doesn’t look black when I see people who have it, but the pictures in promotional make it look like a beautiful jet black, and I’m kinda torn making my color choice here. If it’s like a dark gray, I’d rather have it in silver,
As a game machine is expensive, as a work machine it can be impractical or impossible to use but can allow for some type of work, I guess. I must admit it looks brilliant but as a owner of PS4, Switch, Series S, One X, modern laptop and Retroid Pocket 2 do I need this ?
Hello , very nice review. But i still have one important question for you about the keyboard. Does a blind person could use this keyboard or that would be imposible ? Is there physical dot on the F and the J keys ? Your answer wiiill help me if i should buy one or not. Thank you very much.
The capacitive touch keyboard just completely ruins this computer for me. I love the Vaio UX design and the game controls, but just that keyboard looks horrible. They should have just used a regular keyboard like with the Win 1 and Win 2.
I'm wondering if the guts of the device is in the screen why bother with the keyboard..pure gaming & on screen keyboard like a switch. It would be less thick & much lighter.
Install 'Playnite' front end on this device (it would be better for this device because it is lighter than Launchbox, Hyperspin & Retro Arch) with emulation and BAM you have the ultimate handheld retro gaming device.
Haha that was hilarious. Thanks for posting the fail it was as is life. What was that skiing game tho? This is first handheld pc w controls I'll buy .the keyboard could have easily been 2nd screen.
Need this but with, glasses free 3d, 3d cameras same strength front and back, fingerprint sensor removal (bcuz the software always gets discontinued), rumble, and sticks on the bottom or small steam controller circles instead.
i never use my series x...for real..maybe played like 1 week max...i just play on my 3070 pc...every new game that comes i just get it on pc....amazing console(actually is a really good pc) but not for someone that already have a good pc.
The person who buys It this Portable PC, buys for gaming, not for writing or watching youtube. So in thi review u didin't test anything relevant to see laptop's limit... So is It weak???
Seems more like a modern UMPC in a good way compared to previous GPD devices. Still wish they'd retry some of their cheaper ideas like the XD and the original win but if I could afford this I'd go for it.
So it’s a modern day gamegear battling the gameboy. Gameboy was lighter and more portable, gamegear had better graphics and needed more batteries but was way heavier and cumbersome. Modern day gameboy is switch lite. Gameboy definitely end up winning. We’ll have to see how this one does.....
If you want a huge choice of games for a fair price with instant access to your entire PC library or GamePass right out of the box for absolutely free then Win 2 or Win 3 is for you. If you want a narrow choice of games, wasting years of your life waiting for a port of an older game to pay $60 once again for a game you already have - then go with Nintendo, because its massive ad campaign told you so. I'm playing handhelds since GameBoy. And after buying Win2, I haven't even thought of adding Switch to my collection. But ofcourse multi-billion corporation has much more ways to convince you buying their inferior device with premium priced games to think you are the winner here.
@@Gadgetmawombo small niche is fine, their price seems to say we arent niche and we deserve what we ask. ive been a fan of the idea since the gpd win...you will never sell me on the price
When the Win Max is... like... 35$ more than the cheapest Win 3... I dont really see a market for this other than people who want the even smaller form factor. Personally I think I'm gonna keep saving for the Max...
