VRAM does become important if you're using Resolve. Once you start using things like temporal noise reduction or optical flow on UHD timelines and greater then it's quite easy to chew up more than 8GB of VRAM. For this reason I opted for a 3060 over a 3060Ti and am glad I did because most of my own projects end up using 9GB+ of VRAM.
@@theTechNotice once you say 8gb is ok up til 8k, than you say its ok for 4k? whats up man? cant decide 3060 or 3060ti.ti would be much better for aming, but i have to consider editing too. i have sony a1.
the guy is misleading people. For davinci resolve 8gb GPU is nothing. Minimum is 12GB. I keep getting the gpu out of memory message with 8gb and full hd and 4k. Just Simple "optical flow" use it
Hey m8, I have a similar set up, the GPU should be fine but the recommended Davinci Resolve settings are at least a i7 & 4gb of vram. Might not be the fastest but it won't crash on you!
I got my computer engineering degree in 1998. Since last few days, I've been thinking to get a GPU for my high performance desktop/workstation. Watched a lot of videos, but your video is the most informative one even though it is more than an year old. Thanks for the to good video.
Thank you so much for catering to beginners. I am getting into some 3d rendering and hoping to build my first pc. What GPU would you recommend for blender 3.0? My budget is about 1,600 Canadian.
5:32 man, this is very big question. Components that they are using are different. It can become broken or even burned with dead gpu because of it. this is very specific question.
How has this changed for photographers after the latest update to Lightroom 12.3 with AI Denoise? No one has tested it yet. From my small comparison of i7 9700K/32GB RAM/SSD drives with internal GPU only: AI Denoise takes about 12 minutes, exporting 100 edited images (42Mpx RAW) takes over 160 seconds, and AI masking (2 masks - subject and background) takes about 80 seconds. After adding just the "cheap" RTX 3060 12GB - Denoise takes 22 seconds, exporting 100 images takes less than 60 seconds and AI masking takes 47 seconds. It's a huge upgrade! But is the newer generation with say RTX 4070 much better, or is it just a slight difference? And how well are AMD cards doing with these AI tasks? The older generation GPUs (GTX) are much slower than the cheaper newer ones...
i have a question , my friend would like to upgrade her photo editing pc , she is becoming a pro photographer, i am aware of quadro cards from Nvidia , are they good for photo editing ? i dont understand them really yet , if you would please explain a littel bit i am searching online and i am just confused
I am not a "GPU guru" but as a professional photographer I can say that for photo issues you definitely don't need a super powerful and super expensive GPU. Until this year I worked on my old 2008 video card with only 2Gb of VRAM and the latest versions of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom (and even Adobe Premiere) worked just fine. May be slightly slower than they could but fine. I believe photo software rely much more on CPU and RAM rather than on video memory.
Same here. i also bought the 12gb version for not just 6k resolution but im positive the more vfx you and color grading that extra vram can help as well. From what i heard get a 3070 or 3060ti if you create and game. And if you are a pure creator get the 3060 12gb unless you have the budget for a 3080
Hey Tech Notice. I need your advice. Will this specs be good enough for 4K 30&60fps editing/rendering? I'm using Premiere Pro, After Effects & Media Encoder(all 2022 version) as my main editing software. - Core i5 12600K - RTX 3060 12GB - 32GB DDR4 3600Mhz RAM
I actually fill the 8gb of my 3070 very quickly when making art and videos in photoshop. Another thing to consider for vram is how many monitors you are running, their refresh rate, and resolution.
the 12gb rtx 3060 cannot be underestimated that extra 4gb is a massive boost to creators, its also best bang for buck, I'm also a casual gamer, i do not need gaming perf0rmance its not top tier priority but a cheap card with a heap of VRam 12gb is king for me.
Got the RTX 3060 12gb, and I am very happy with it for videoediting in Davinci Resolve (free version) and for Blender. My cpu is an i5-10600k and it seems to be a nice combo.
@@theTechNotice I will upgrade soon. Thanks for all your videos, nice to have a great channel like this, for us creators/gamers. By the way, I used to do my videoediting in Blender, but Davinci just makes it a bit easier. Still learning.
@@1pac882 yes, I am very happy with it, for the price. I came from the GTX1070, and the RTX3060 is maybe 25-50% faster. Depending on the game. I chose the 3060 because of the 12gb vram, as I saw the 1070's 8gb being almost 100% utilised in some games. So only the 3060 gave me more than 8gb, other than 3080's and up. Didn't wanna pay that much for just a gpu. So the 3060 12gb gave me a nice bump in performance, and I got RT and DLSS. And yes, I did get the most overkill version of the 3060; MSI Gaming Z with 3 fans. But, price was ok, its huge and overclocks like crazy, cool and quiet. So, yes am very happy with it, both for gaming and Davinci Resolve. Seems well utilised, and does most of the work compared to the cpu. Got the 10600k, a 6 core 12 thread cpu like your Ryzen 3600.
BIG REQUEST. How about a “Price Point” workstation video? What I mean is maybe show a few good builds for creators/gamers within specific price points, $1,000, $1,500, $2,000 (what I’m hoping for) and up. I think this would be a popular video for newcomers. (basically I’m looking for something under $3,000, closer to $2,000 to use for Blender, Unreal Arch Viz, etc. and I’m sure a ton of other people are too)
Ah yeah for those folks choosing which manufacturer you want. They're all more or less the same. The only major differences you need to look out for is. 1 Cost, 2 how many fans, 3 Is it water cooled, or air cooled. 4 How many PCIE slots do you need to reserve at the back of your rig (Make sure it fits). 5 What's more important to you, MAX POWER, or Smallest size/Quietness. Otherwise a 4080 is a 4080 no matter who you buy from.
Very good! Octane and Redshift can eat up a lot of VRAM if you rendering 3D models with very high resolution textures. Just thought it needed to be said. ;)
Excellent video for the non-professional creator. It's worth noting that the 3060 and 3060ti are in fact more different than their simple numbering suggests. The 3060 uses the 106 SKU whilst the 3060ti uses the faster 104 SKU which is the same as in the higher 3070 series, making it more like a downgraded 3070 rather than an upgraded 3060. This also allows the 3060ti to run at a faster memory bus speed (256 bit) whilst the 3060 is only (192-bit)... hence the reason why the 8GB 3060ti outperforms the 12GB 3060. Thanks Nvidia for making things so confusing! Update I've seen various comments that Davinci Resolve would run better on the 3060 because it it able to utilise more VRAM than the 3060ti. This of course is true, but only if the project needs that extra V-RAM. Also, in order to get the best out of Davinci, you need the full Studio version as the Free version has some behind the scenes limitations with how it limits the graphics acceleration. I assume that all the testing done here by Tech Notice is done using the Studio version and this would of course explain why it performs so well compared to PremierPro.
Can anyone answer me this. I been looking for this answer for a long time. I have a core i5 6600 k cpu which is working fine. But my gpu is GTX 970 which is pretty old card now. I am looking to buy a new graphic card just for 3d rendering from Blender and not going to hugely play games with it. So the Blender software is going to use 100 percent my GPU only? and there wont be any bottle neck. or is there going to be bottle necking even for 3d modeling ? i am planning to get a rtx 3060 ti
I have been editing in FHD for years and years on 16 Ram and 2 and then 4 VRam and that has been more than enough but lately I switched my camera and jumped to 4k and I have been having 3-4 crashes a day the ram and VRam are totally used all the time and I turned on page file on 3 of my drives. I also edit photos on lightroom and everybody says you don't need more ram for photo. But the last upgrades on mask work flow invites you to do a lot of masks and that has been very heavy on both rams. Maybe it is time to rethink what photo workflow needs
i am a creator who was waiting for the prices to go down but as they went down, i am hearing that next generation gpus will hit the market. Should i wait for them or should i buy the gpu now because i dont want to upgrade my build for a vey long time. And also, does faster m.2 translate to more video editing performance because i have a gen3 ssd. P.s. i resent this message because I want your opinion.
Im trying to choose between a used 3070 or a 4060 for streaming Ill be pairing it with my i5 9400 and just a 460w power supply Im thinking 4060 since the 3070 draws much more power I currently have a gtx 1080 inside Any help is appreciated 🙏
Great video as always! I’m building my pc for video editing but I’m still undecided for which GPU I should go, i edit in davinci resolve and also after effects with projects with a lot of graphics, transitions, 3D elements etc… but I don’t if I should buy the 3060 12 gb or the 3060 Ti 8gb because 3060ti have more CUdA cores , it’s faster, it’s 256 bits but 3060 vram where the software can use…if someone can help me out it would be appreciated
i use ZBrush/ Marvelous designer/ Blender/Substance Painter/ Marmoset Toolbag/ UE4/UE5 for work and they all use CPU and GPU so i need everything to be good, my wallet hates me...
@@theTechNotice I report at least 20 a day and youtube does nothing about it. This been going on for months and it is very annoying. I love your channel and your content.
7:12 we've been using Gigabyte, Msi and now Asus gpu's at the office and tbh the Gigabyte cards had quite some issues, in contrast to 0 issues whatsoever with the other 2 brands. Do a quick google on Gigabyte cards and you'll find quite some problems.. Ps 7:36 the L stands for Lite, not for Low, it litterally says so on the box haha
I've only heard good things about GIGABYTE's motherboards. Waterforce GPU leaking, Waterforce AIO engine stops working, etc. but everything's good with Aorus boards.
Thanks for the great video! Have been watching for maybe a year or more. Should have subbed before. Just did. I'm new to the editing arena, but want to dive in with the content ideas I have. I'm building a new workstation and have been debating about the video card. 3060 or 3060ti. I recently picked up a MSI 3060 Ventus, but after watching your video I had the chance to pick up a EVGA XC Gaming 3060 ti for a good price, so I did. Will return the 3060. I'm headed into uncharted territory, but my workstation will have a 5900x, 64GB of RAM, 3060ti, 2TB Nvme (gen4). Plan to use the new Fedora 36 and both Kdenlive and Davinci Resolve. Thanks for all the great videos.
Sadly there is only really one choice for generally trouble free VR gaming, and that is Nvidia. Went from a 1080 Ti to 4090 for a triple performance gain and running VR in 4K.
Thanks for your work/effort. what about CAD programs, like Autodesk Fusion 360, Solidworks, SolidEdges or 3D printer programs For Makers not for Pros, with larger projects. There is always talk about games or Blender-Maya, but CAD/CNC rarely or not at all. Which cheap hardware is useful
My dad usually works with Photoshop and I’m trying to decide what gpu to get for him. Say he wants to Photoshop a very high quality image, would a 3060 12gb gpu work
Actually for 3D modelling/Animations in DAZ 3D (Nvidia IRAY) more VRAM is better than a more powerful card with less VRAM. Why? Because it can make the difference between your scene rendering without issues at a reasonable pace and the scene crashing and dumping the data to main RAM for render on the CPU which is 20x slower and doesn't use the GPU at all. So 3060 12G = slow and steady wins the race, vs 3060TI 8G = OOH LOOK AT THE HORSEPOWER AND NO ROOM TO GALLOP. Kinda like. Comparing an average muscle car on average road vs Formula 1 car on average road with average traffic conditions, GPU CORE power doesn't always mean winning. It frequently annoys me that I can't add more than 3 characters into a scene before I have to start extensively deleting background objects and props in order to force the scene to fit in 8GB. (Because 3D render programs are dumb and don't self optimize by auto-removing off-camera 3D objects like games do, you have to do it yourself. With more VRAM comes more creative freedom and less scene troubleshooting.)
brand matters. zotac has serious tharmal issues. follow this : asus tuf> msi x trio/x > evga> colorful volcun/advanced oc> gigabyte >zitac>pny... and so on.... don’t listen to this guy, gpu temperature matters for long run use. choose wisely. ✌️ try to get asus, msi, colorful or evga.... avoid gigabyte, zotac.
Dude I'm STRESSING myself out trying to build a budget video editing PC lol. I want to go with that amazing intel i5 12600k that seems to be one of the best CPUs on the market right now, but I know I'm not actually going to need anything crazy. I have a crypto RU-vid channel and I film the video through OBS so it's not like I'm doing anything crazy. I'm currently using a little lenovo laptop which has surprisingly done well but now that I'm actually trying to do legitimate editing it's starting to struggle. I hope you have a CPU buying guide like this lol. I'm going to go look now. I need to stop tripping a just pick a CPU lol
would you consider buying the RTX A series if you will use your machine solely for 3d rendering and video editing? I am currently building my machine. But I can't decide whether to go for RTX 3080 Ti and RTX A4000. Since they are almost of the same price. At least locally.
zotac might be cheap but they die soon and the replaced GPU have traces of used GPU like a you can literally see the dust cleanup mark, grunge cleaned from the cheap and when you receive you replacement you would be disappointed by the how old and used up the GPU look, I am never buying ZOTAC again rather go with asus or msi their replaced GPU look as new and work as new.
Hey fellow gamers let's all take a moment to feel sorry for Nvidia...just kidding. Nividia is experiencing the karma that it deserves! Hey Nvidia maybe you should treat loyal gamer customers better. Nvidia's blood is in the water and the sharks are gathering. Crash and burn scalpers and miners!!!
My workflow is all in ProRes Raw 4.2k and I use neat video to denoise. I want I share that if you plan on doing this type of workflow this plug-in uses only up to 25% of the VRAM for 4.2k resolution. I currently have a 3090 ti so it can only use 25% of the 12GB (which is painfully slow) it can take 4 days to render a video. Also, if you plan on doing 6k or 8k raw in the future then a 48GB GPU maybe be a worth it if you are making the kind of income you should be from a raw workflow worthy project. Denoising aside, I feel like the 3090 ti is almost not powerful enough to handle the color tab in premier specially if you have any other adjustment layers with any effects. 🤞for the 4090 ti to be way way way better, because I’m not impressed with the 3090 ti
Thank you. I very much appreciate how you approached this video. I had an ok idea already, but this helped confirm my understandings and I also learnt a lot. Thank you.
Wonderful, pity that nvidia gpu's are still way overpriced related to their launch price (30% more average) while amd gpu's are falling below their msrp.
I'm in the unique situation where I'm mainly an audio creator, and the only considerations I need to have for picking a GPU is gaming performance and how well it would handle streaming on Twitch or similar services.
Scored a 3060ti for $250. Kinda wish I got the 12gb 3060 after reading more about it (this is for Davinci Resolve) but this is my first build and I think it will be more than enough to start, and couldn't pass on the price
Same here. I'm puting together my first build and i think i'll be going for an Rtx 3060 ti. Here in México is not as affordable as the one you managed to get, but still it remains more affordable than all the other options. wish i could go up as high as an 4070 ti, but if i spend more in the GPU i would have to shave some money from other components (like extra ssd nvme drives and the CPU). Sure i will be doing gaming but since my number one priority is to have a goo content creation workstation, i think i will settle for the 3060 ti.
@@rodrigomadera3048 hope you found something that works for you! The 3060 ti has been able to do everything that I have attempted, and it even is decent at running a couple games so far!
@Tech Notice - Thanks for all your work and info. Could you make a video explaining the new AMD Ryzen 7000 processors in relation to IGPU capabilities? I know that Intel's 12900K, 12700K offer video processing that is beneficial even with a discreet GPU. Will the new Ryzen 7000 processors offer similar benefits? Should I be waiting for the Ryzen 7000 or will I get better support for DaVinci Resolve using a 12900K, 12700K? Thanks again!
Good question, As far as I know AMD hasn't released much info about that and if the iGPU in the Ryzen 7000 has media engines, and what codecs they support. Have to wait and see.
I struggle with software that controls RGB + Fans; I install many to control each component separately. Is buying the same brand help with this issue? If yes, can you recommend 1 brand?
Hi tech notice, i am a 3d artist as you said in video that 12 gb vram is better but after that statement you said you should buy 3060ti. It confused me. Kindly clarify. Btw nice video. I wish more creator tall about 3d rendering rather than gaming.
So depending on your workflow and scenes, some scenes require more VRAM some less. At the same time the rendering power is faster on 3060ti but the 3060 has more VRAM. Just figure out which is more important to you? :)
im somewhat of a 3d artist and i'd say it's worth it to go with the non ti versions, regardless of the small loss in performance, in 3d rendering, textures eat up the vram so if you plan on using very high resolution textures you need as much GB as possible
3060 and 3060ti would both be fantastic GPUs. The TI processes faster while your working by about 20%. The 12gb 3060 only shines when you go over 8GB VRAM limit. That's what caused the 3060 to outperform the 3060ti and 4060, but for some software and games, it might crash if it tries to load past that 8GB wall.
Ok everyone, you want more VRAM so you want to get the 3060 12GB, not the TI but If you can afford it, get the 3080 OC which is 12 GB. The more VRAM, the better for editing, color grading, etc.
Does the advantage of nvidia disappear for someone with an intel 12th gen cpu ( with igpu ) ? I heard you say in an another video that intel encoders are better than nvidia's

Don't worry you can get Rtx 3050 in the used market for 150 or something but I will recommend you to go with 3060 even if your processor will bottleneck during gaming still it will increase your editing experience and in future you can upgrade to something like i3 10th which will be a good combo with 3060

Hi, what about HP NVIDIA RTX A4000? I am working all the time with adobe products and I am not sure what to buy. RTX A4000 or Gigabyte Geforce RTX 3080 gaming OC 10G 2.0?
Hey Guys, I need some help here... I'm in need of a graphics card, my 2060 super's VRAM is faulty, keeps on giving me both vram relatted bluescreens, and problems using After Effects. I have a ryzen 9 3900x, and x570 Auros Elite, 64gb of ram and use it mostly for compositing, motion design, 2D animation, both frame by frame and after effects. I'm starting to feel the weight of 2,5D compositions using 2k/4K assets. I'm kinda divided betweem the 3080 10gb, 12gb or going 3070. Does anybody have similar workflows that can give me an hint?
With a 6600XT being much cheaper than even a RTX 3050 it would be nice to see how well the cards compare in video editing Hell even a 6700XT is only about $100 more here. So my question is. If you're doing only like 1-5 projects a week is it still worth going with Nvidia? I watched your other videos on AMD, but benchmarks don't really tell the whole story. Yes Nvidia is much better, but scrubbing and exports or my 10400f and and gtx 1060 3GB have been not great, but not horrible either. Would AMD really be that bad? Saying something is like 5% or 30% better doesn't really matter if you can't notice it. I'd love to see a real world comparison of AMD vs Nvidia so we could have a definitive answer. For example like if we are only seeing a difference of 1 min in export times or there's no difference really in scrubbing and playback. Maybe AMD isn't so bad. Lol I just want to know because I really would like to get a 12700, but then I have to get a lower end Nvidia GPU where I could get a 6700XT with it. Or I can get a 12600 and then get like a 3060ti.
@@th-redattack That could be true, but it's still nice to visually see the difference. Sometimes people will say it's better because it's like 15-20% faster, but that 20% could mean you only save 2 mins on a render. AMD cards 6600 and up do have encoders/decoders. So it would be cool to see the performance outside of benchmarks.
@@CHA0SBLEEDS Hello. I'm just a beginner 3D modeler, so I'm also studying video cards now, because I want to upgrade. I respected a little. For those involved in video editing, rendering and 3D graphics in general, ONLY Nvidia is recommended. Because NVIDIA has CUDA cores and RTX, these technologies greatly affect the speed of video processing, rendering, map baking, and the comfort of working with texturing in 3D packages. I probably searched badly, but I didn't find some real tests of NVIDIA and AMD in 3D packages on the Internet to see how cool CUDA and RTX are, as they say.
@@panAlexS Yep I haven't found any channels on this either. It's like use Nvidia because it's better, but how much better? Especially with all these detailed stuff on Nvidia cards it would just be nice to see how AMD cards fare. I don't have unlimited budget. So I usually have to wait a generation behind to get Nvidia cards while AMD cards are generally cheap.I saw a 6700XT for $280 and I'm kicking myself for not buying it now. Lol.
Actually getting a GPU based on whatever is the cheapest one is a dumb advice... There are so many variables that impact your efficiency and work comfort... There is VRM quality that affect thermals of the card and can cause serious thermal throttling. I'm not even saying about overclocking capabilities (for some more advanced users) that bad quality VRM can cripple badly. There is also power limits that affects overall performance of the card within the same series and model. The fans quality is also not equal - it can, and will, affect not only thermals but also noise levels that at high workload may affect your comfort. If u work in an industry that requires high computing power you have to know what you are dealing with when it comes to PC parts. So if You want to give this kind of bad adviese - pls don't post it online and say "just take the chipest one" cause thats the way you get very expensive potato box. Cheers guys.
