Finally someone approached the 3D workflow the right way! Congrats! That's why you are the best creator's channel! Just to add some information, if your workflow consists in modelling in Blender and rendering in Unreal with Lumen, you can go pretty far with an i5, 64 gb of RAM and an AMD or Intel ARC GPU with 16gb. The 4060 16gb makes a ton of sense here, too.

@BaieDesBaies my experience with CAD and engineering software in general is that it is usually less intensive on hardware than other 3D applications. Also, they are poorly optimized and don't explore multi-threading very well, for example. So, an i9 won't be that much faster than an i5 90% of the time. If you use things like Inventor, AutoCAD, or Revit, you can do a lot of stuff with basically anything. I would only recommend max the ram and buy nvidia for compatibility issues. Even a rtx 2060 12gb will do a lot. But, if you are going to use for finite element simulations, this can get pretty nasty, pretty fast. You can do stress analysis on Inventor for reasonably complex geometry with almost any PC. If you are going for fluid dynamics, most probably you'll need a threadripper. From all this, the best advice is to find a way to estimate how much ram you'll need and build from there. Then, buy a Nvidia gpu with the most VRAM you can. In engineering applications, capacity is king, not raw speed. Finally, Puget systems have some good benchmarks on their site.

I have my personnal desktop with 14600K, RTX 3080 and 16 Go DDR4 but I still need a laptop with tiny budget. Do you think new cranked up integrated graphics like Arc in Core Ultra H or Radeon 680M are good enough for 3D CAD ? What about a 6 Go laptop 3050 ? I won't push into the hardest tasks for the moment cause I am still an engineering student.

I’m a 3D animation student. So far, my 5900X, 3080ti 12Gig, and 128 gigs of ram served me well. With that being said, I haven’t had any super heavy projects and if I do, we have MONSTER PCs at school that I have access to if I ever need them. I would to upgrade to the latest and greatest but I don’t have that kind of money right now.

Using Resolve with UHD timelines with stabilization, color grading, noise reduction and voice isolation I seldom see much over 16GB of RAM use. My system has 32GB and outside of complex Fusion constructs, it rarely uses more than about 60 percent of that.

Do you have the memory usage slider set to max on resolve? This is an adjustable parameter in resolve mines set to 12gb, and it's not enough, although I'm editing on a potato lol

One of the most important things for video creators is big and fast hard drive. The fastest CPU and GPU can't compensate slow hard drive or bad configuration of multiple hard drives.

for 3d, Corona renderer and Vray are CPU-based but Vray can use GPU or even both but the best results can be otten from rendering with CPU. GPU is crazy fast but the results do not look as good as CPU.

GPU export changes the game for Lightroom exports. My 5950X was reasonably quick but my RTX3080 exports in less than half the time.

Lightroom AI noise reduction pin my RTX4080 to the max. I run all my wedding church and dancing shots through AI noise reduction. Takes about 4sec per image and if you have to do 300 images time add up. Also smart masking like select sky or teeth whitening works so fast. On my old PC I was constantly waiting for task to be completed. I agree 64GB ddr5 RAM is a sweet spot for photography. Lightroom, Photoshop, Spotify and Plex server running in the background can take upto 40GB easily.

I'm curious about the denoise and bokeh features that lightroom released recently. Seems like there's not a lot of info regarding all these AI features that Adobe has released in the last year and how it affects PC performance. I have an older 2070 super and anytime I apply the new AI denoise to an image I have to walk away from my pc because it throttles my GPU.

@nathanielmartin6631 Yes Denoise hits GPU hard. They updated bokeh but didn't try it yet. First bokeh implementation was not good I believe it's still in the beta stage.

I'm hoping to upgrade my graphics card once the next Gen cards get released and get a deal on this generations cards, but I'm not sure what benchmarks I need to be looking to make a good decision. Videos like this are like your CPU is more important, which may have been true in the past but graphics cards are now a lot more important since these new features have been released.

Thanks so much sir! You've been so helpful over the years...and I've built 2 machines based off of the things I've learned from this channel. Still the ONLY creator focused tech/PC channel out there! Now...a controversial request. Agree with it or not...Ai is quickly becoming very much a part of the creative workflow. I'm a vfx artist...and one of the ways we try to remain ethical with using ai is to train our own ai models for visuals (watch corridor crews videos on how they did their second ai anime short). But anyways yes...more and more creators, like it or not, will be forced into a similar workflow. So, wondering if you would consider looking into hardware/workflow suggestions for that (growing) niche of creators. 🤔

This why you're currently one of my favorite PC tech channel! Keep it up, love to know more about content creation PC stuff. Oh btw as a commercial photographer myself - 32GB is plenty sufficient. 16GB minimum. Of course I guess it depends on what the person photographs, if it's many 45MP RAW files and doing editing then yeah maybe. In the end it's what the person is doing but 32GB is plenty sufficient really and most people will get it all done with 16GB. Ditto to the video part too, at least I feel that way. Video editing for example, many software doesn't use GPU for work. Davinci Resolve for example doesn't enable GPU acceleration unless you're using Studio version. So for fast video work generally it's CPU first ahead of everything else. GPU is handy, I tried using GTX 1050 for my 4K video work recently and it was sluggish - personally I'd recommend 3060 12GB being a good one. I'm using 8GB VRAM GPU but some work does hit a limit with 8GB, not for me but for some people I know.

I wish you talked a little about thermal control,using water-cooled or air cooled. Not sure if this is true or false: I've always bought bigger cases with good air throughput because with a bigger case there is a larger volume of space to radiate heat. Although if I had a case with 3 push in fans in the front, 3 fans on top pulling out and 2 fans at the rear. Using the same fans, the smaller box would have a higher density of air and would cool better than a larger box. Do you place your cases on the floor or on the desk? I also wish you would compare data cable and other cable quality.A scape on the lowest sata cable or a break break at the connector went on fire and destroyed almost every component. Besides that, shorter cables are faster if they have the correct end connectors. How about doing a video on NAS drives and which ones are better for creators.. thanks

A larger case is easier to get decent airflow through than a smaller case. But at the same time you are not incorrect in that it takes longer to exchange the total air volume in a larger case if the same number and type of fans are used. But it is harder to get the airflow optimal in that smaller case. So either way it's a trade off. It might be worth considering using even more fans in a larger case, that way you can have them set to a lower fan speed and still get even faster air exchange in the case. This can result in lower sound pressure. Another question is water cooling or not, and if so is it worth going for a open loop or using a AIO (All In One, a closed loop that is installed as is). The open loop is more expensive, more modular, more efficient and more dangerous as any mistakes can make them more likely to leak. Really good air coolers are actually pretty close to the performance of simpler open loops or AIO coolers. But a open loop can be designed to use several radiators and can be used to cool not only the CPU but also any GPU in the system. Now being a boring unimaginative guy I'd say go for a large case and air cooling, or possibly a quality AIO. This makes the system easy to work on, reliable and somewhat cost effective. But like I said I'm a boring old cuss. I want a big case with out a single window of glass panel. I don't need to look at my computer, I need it to do it's job and the less I see of it the better. You may have very different priorities, so consider that when reading this. Being a "Function over Form" guy I think that if you go open loop then definitely go with a soft line system. Hardline cooling loops look good, but can be a pain to work with should you ever have to swap parts. As for AIO I'm partial for the Arctic Cooling products, especially those without RGB. I told you I'm boring! The Arctic AIOs are not sexy and a bit bulkier than most others, but they have excellent cooling and comes in versions without RGB... 😁 Oh, and they are among the cheaper coolers even though they out performs almost all comparable AIO coolers no matter the price.

Question about Gen5 NVME (T700). What I know is, that a benchmark like puget Bench for DR, will run faster when the testfiles are placed on a Gen4 than when they are placed on a Gen3 NVME drive, most others have no bottleneck, so they have the same speed. I know that only this view Filetipes should be even faster on a Gen5 NVME. Now what I don't know is, if it brings a bigger benefit when the OS and the DR installations would be on a GEN5 drive, or if it is better to have there let's say 8K-RAW data, let's say for the benchmark the Puget Bench files. I am thinking to get a T700, but I still struggle with the desition.

OS dosen't really matter if its on gen 5 or even a sata drive beyond boot up time which may take a couple extra seconds. Better to save your gen 5 for the big files you need.

The Core i9 13900KS is just a slightly higher clocked and hotter running version of the Core i9 13900K. In all other things it's the same. So it is just as good or bad for whatever you are doing as the K version. Well it might be a little faster, but you also have to make sure you have the cooling to keep it from heat throttling. And yes, it is running a lot hotter than the K version. So hot that you might actually get worse performance unless you really beef up the cooling. Puget Systems has looked at the Core i9 13900KS and compared it to the K version and AMD R9-7950X. The Intel CPU's smoked the R9 in just about everything they threw at them, but the KS was only marginally faster than the K version of the Core i9 processor in most cases. For details Google: puget systems "Intel Core i9 13900KS Content Creation Review" They have benched Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve and more.

-KS CPUs are just slightly boosted chips from the get-go, aka "silicon lottery winners" (6GHz for the 13900KS vs 5.8GHz for the 13900K), at a ~$200 "markup" depending on who you ask. It does come with an iGPU so Quick Sync is available, but you gotta ask yourself if the 200MHz clock boost is worth the almost $200 price increase, not including the cost required to keep that chip under decent temps, without having to let it thermal throttle. As for the memory latency question, I'm not super expert in that regard, but from what I know, yes but "it depends". CL timing, along with its transfer rate, help determine how long it takes for the memory to read a stored word (how quick it can react to an action), or "first word latency", so for example, a DDR4 3200MT/s CL16 kit is "equivalent" to a DDR4 3600MT/s CL18 kit, both with a first word latency of 10 nanoseconds (ns). This is calculated by multiplying the CAS timing by 2000, and the result is divided by the transfer rate. With some tighter (lower) CAS timings and higher frequencies, the memory could run slightly quicker, at the possible cost of stability. Following the previous example, now if we compare the previous two against a 3200 CL14 kit or 3600 CL16, the latter would be faster with a first word latency of ~8.7-8.8ns. Extra manual tuning, memory binning, and system stability, are all factors to consider as well. If you want the best performance you could try overclocking and manually tuning your RAM, or if you want to make sure stability is your top priority, especially with current DDR5, you could either run the kit at their XMP/EXPO values or at the motherboard's default config without enabling XMP/EXPO.

Some tips for those who want to start in 3D animation from an amateur 3D animator: 1- Having more VRAM on your GPU doesn't necessarily mean faster rendering. 2- Always optimize your scene; it doesn't matter if you have a 4090. An optimized scene will make things easier for both your GPU and you. 3- In a 3D environment, the CPU is mainly for hair and fluid simulations, while the GPU is for rendering (which takes much more time). So, you'll be okay with a mid-tier CPU if you have a high-end GPU. 4- 32GB of RAM is really good for a 3D animation PC These are some tips that I've learned as an amateur/hobby 3D animator.

Excellent video friend, thank you very much for the video. Please could you help me choose a PC, I currently already have an RTX 4070 Tuf. I'm thinking about updating everything else. I was thinking of purchasing an I7 12700k due to the current Amazon discounts which are around 239 USD, for the price I think it is better than the I5 13600k and the same as the i7 13700k and i7 14700k that the prices according to the % improvement I think not They are so big. Then an economical board just like this on discount like the Asus Z690 Rog Strix E gaming, which has good M2 PCI 4.0 ports, USB C and 1 Thunderbold for 240 USD and ram memory from 32 to 4,800 Hz (those hertz because that supports the processor and motherboard) I will look for the lowest CL I can, those rams are around 115 USD I think. An 850 W gold source and a good case. What do you think. I come from a Ryzen 7 3700x with 16 ram, I think it will be an excellent change, but I would like to know what you think. Thanks for all these great videos! They've actually inspired me to build my own PC not too long ago. But I've run into some issues with Lightroom even with a 13900k. I have a 4070Ti and it seems that the 12GB VRAM tends to be the bottleneck for CR2 and CR3 images for me. This is especially noticeable when opening a dual monitor setup and trying to zoom in at 100% on the second monitor while at the same time having the photo open on the first monitor. The image just doesn't load and shows up as black, or sometimes only loads partially at a lower resolution, at the same time bringing LR to a complete halt. Has anyone else experienced this issue as well? It just seems crazy to me that having 2 photos open would slow it down that much.

My system has a Ryzen 5 5600G and 16GB or RAM and no discrete GPU. I am able to edit 4K video just fine using Davinci Resolve. I don't understand why higher end CPU and GPU is tauted as a requirement for video editing.

Has the whole 4 sticks of RAM thing been settled? I'm building a new creator PC. ProArt Z790 Creator motherboard, 13th Gen i9 with a RTX 4090. I'd like to do 128 GB of DDR5 RAM. I'd like to go with Corsair Dominator but they only offer 64 GB (2x32) kits. Asus only lists Kingston Fury Beast RAM as compatible (4x32 GB) kit to get 128 GB. What do you recommend? I prefer the Corsair kits better.

Go with the corsair then, the QVL really means little since they can't test with every brand and ram is pretty much identical anyways.

@@Born_Stellar I was thinking the same thing. Buy two of the Corsair 64GB kits. If I have any trouble running 4 sticks, I’ll just remove two of the. Just run on one 64GB kit. I can’t seem to get a straight answer from Asus or Corsair when I contacted them. Perhaps Intel 14900k will offer better RAM support and motherboard choices.

Definitely intrigued by the 96gb per ram stick you mentioned! Just searched Newegg and don't see any of the like. Looking to upgrade my video editing pc with 5950x, rtx 3090, and 64gb (4x16) CL14 3600 MHz ram soon next year once the next gen processors start releasing. Might even look into Xeon or Threadripper if they come out with new ones (and prices are humane). As my video projects have gotten more dynamic, and performance has not been up to par with my expectations. An 850w PSU is what came with my 4090. Not sure if perhaps I should have gotten a larger capacity. My Project files drive (Firecuda 530 4tb) and OS drive (Firecuda 530 2tb) are good to stay. Cache drive should be good enough to stay, not sure (Samsung 960Evo 500gb). Also hoping Fractal Design come out with an updated Torrent case model that has more cable management space, hard drive storage space, and cmore compatible with AIO's. Seems to be the only case supporting large 180mm fans.

7:33 where are 64gb sticks? am i dreaming, or werent those available before? now i can only find naked ones, aka no heatsink or anything. i could swear these were available before… like, corsair and stuff and xpgs and whatnots… cant find them pn newegg, amazon us, amazon uk, amazon de, microcenter, tops are 32gb sticks. in other words, if you go mitx, youre capped at 64gb. unless youre ok with green pcb sticks. weird.

How important is the motherboard itself in the selection of building a rig? Looking for some ideas for 2024.

It should be something that won't make the system work slower than intended, like a motherboard with poor power delivery paired with a power-hungry CPU. Some people will try to go for the cheapest thing that'll do the job without being WAY too cheap construction-wise, like no heatsinks on the MOSFETs/chokes, subpar power delivery compared to other slightly more expensive models, no SSD heatsinks, poor audio codec, and the list goes on. Others will go for whatever fits their needs without breaking the bank - a decent amount of rear I/O ports, certain internal connectivity like front-panel high-speed USB-C, extra m.2 slots, all within a specific price range. And there's the other group that gets the most expensive stuff for "reasons", but if it's something you want/need and it fits your requirements, go ham ($1.2K MSI MEG Z790 Godlike, anyone?). The way I go for choosing a motherboard is taking the middle-of-the-road approach, looking for something that will fit my needs without breaking the bank. I tend to look at power delivery (9-12 phases), m.2 slots (2 is more than enough for most people, but 3 slots can be useful), rear USB slots (at least 6 USB type A, at least one USB-C), MAYBE some wireless connectivity, or the option to install a 2230 Wi-Fi card (i.e.: some ASRock motherboards come with a "dedicated" 2230 m.2 E-key slot for a Wi-Fi + BT card), MAYBE a front-panel USB-C header, sufficient 4-pin PWM + 3-pin ARGB headers, and a $200 cap.

when it comes to motherboards you really just need to know what features you want, most high end motherboards are just bloated with useless features, I would say the most important thing is the chipset (ie z690, z790, x670, b550m etc). I would say 150$ for a motherboard is a good spot to start. This guy used the Asus ProArt a lot, and the benefit to it is the sound card built in, it's a lot better than most motherboards.

@@Prabhu_njd It's more than capable. If anything, maybe try to stick to two RAM sticks to avoid any potential instability issues with DDR5 (if using XMP). Gotta make sure the cooling solution can keep up with the heat output.

Bear in mind that current RAM chips are 16 GBit or the newer 24 GBit, so 32GB or the newer 48GB individual sticks are double sided and thus put the equivalent load of 2 single sided sticks on the IMC. These WILL struggle to hit their XMP speeds! I 'downgraded' from 64GB 6400 to 48GB 8000MTs to use the newer 24GB single sided sticks.

At one of the largest computer retailers in Germany (alternate), PC systems that can be ordered are only equipped with a maximum of 64 GB DDR 5 RAM, because 128 GB can lead to stability problems. A RAM bar has just broken on my system. Has anyone had similar experiences? I have a Gigabyte Z 790 aero g motherboard and otherwise only expensive components. I want this to run with 128 GB.

its because for more than 64gb you need 4 sticks of ram which puts more strain on the memory controller in the cpu. you can get 96gb with 2 sticks because there are now 48gb sticks of DDR5 available. if you want the full 128 or more you should expect to turn down the frequency.

You are very, very wrong about photos and GPU, it does matter, but as usual, on YT, your claims are based on little to no experience in the subject at hand, and there are a lot more photo editing software not only PS or Topaz. And once again as usual on YT since the components you are using, you don't have to buy, you go with the overkill and use 1000$+ GPU, and with a GPU as powerful as 4090 you can't conclude anything because it's too much power for photo editing! How about for a change maybe put some thought into what you are advising people, instead of just trying to make them use your affiliate link. You know about two photo editing software and you are telling people what is what in that subject. I know when I make my thumbnails....there is a lot more demanding stuff that people do...Ridiculous.

He uses the two most popular photo editing software in Photoshop and Lightroom. even Puget Benchmark, a popular comparison benchmarking tool for professionals uses the same software for their Photo Editing score. You can't possibly expect a video to cover every single software people use. In your wall of rant, you mention there are a lot more software out there, yet I don't see you list them? Maybe try to take a breath and suggest a software that a lot of people use and can be benchmarked, instead of belittling your fellow creator.

I just pointed out that he is giving advice with a great amount of confidence about topic he does not know almost anything about, and wrong advice at that. And pointed out flaws in what he does to make those conclusions and the list of software does not change that.
