You can't go wrong with either. I grew up with manual so I chose the 2023 A91 6MT. The automatic is faster than any human can shift. This is my weekend car, garage queen. If I'm gonna have a weekend car there is no way I'm getting an automatic. Life is too short. Automatic is better for those who are going to be daily driving the Supra or want to drag race like real life is the Fast and the Furious movie.

How's the on-off throttle, manual vs auto? Does the manual feel tighter?

CarGuy - love the videos. I'm in a situation where I'm looking at a new manual supra (3.0) or a used 2018-2019 C7 Grand Sport in manual. Both come in around $60k. You've had the unique experience of owning and/or driving both. SUPRA: B58 is a hero, good build quality, car is new, but cabin is small and may be claustrophobic. C7: NA V8 is still badass, targa roof, build quality could be an issue, car is used. What's your opinion? I know I have to sit in both but what's your gut call here. Much thanks.
@CarGuy11
@CarGuy11 Год назад
Oh wow tough call but I’d take a na manual over a turbo manual because of the improved throttle response. Appreciate you watching and let me know what you decide!

In a sports car I gotta have a manual. For my BMW sport sedans , paddle shifters are perfect.

Im new to cars so this is a genuine question. Is manual shifting on automatic cars (using the stick, not the pedals) the same as using sequential shifters?
@CarGuy11

Yes manual shifting an Auto with paddles or the stick is the same.

@@CarGuy11 You would need to upgrade the clutch. There is a twin disk plus flywheel kit that can handle up to 1000 ft-lbs torque, and people are saying it is not too aggressive for the street. They also released a hydraulic bearing upgrade that supposedly removes the weaker mechanical components. I think clutch masters makes it.

In my opinion, the manual makes it more of a sports car. Definitely yes the auto is faster. But this supposed to be 2 seater sport car. Also is just more fun and engaging to drive. The Auto u just get in and it just drives. The manual gives it more of a personality because you feel like your actually driving. You definitely feel the accelartion more, the torque and control. Also I personally I think once everything is said and done the manual will retain or even go up in value over the Auto. That's something people are not really talking about.
@CarGuy11

Definitely more rare and will hold its value better.

Likely the manual will hold its value more as there are less of them.

Manual will absolutely be a limited collector car long term and much more desirable because they will be Supra hard to find no pun intended lol IMO of course take it with a grain of salt we will see what the future brings with these mark ups on the MT no one wins there anyway unless you find a deal PP! 👍

Depends on shifter feel. If I can’t groove with it then I’ll just use paddles. I own both manual and automatics, I genuinely do not care.

I ordered an automatic Supra. If you choose a manual, it's definitely more fun to use the GR86. Based on my experience with many manual transmission vehicles, the manual operation is reflected in the driving of a vehicle with low engine power and low torque.

I LOVE my '21' auto, thought I would trade it in when the manuals got here, but the huge deficit in gas mileage, the lack of adaptive cruise control, and the gouging of at least $5000-$10,000 (Calif.) over sticker makes me love mine even more. (I get my 6 speed joy's driving my '19 Honda Civic SI Coupe as a daily). As a side note, I wish I could talk to whatever committee approved the design on the Supra for that hideous steering wheel (skinny rim, huge center pie plate, overall ugly design), and the most unsexy and awkward automatic gear shift lever of any modern car.😕
@CarGuy11

I think for the most part, people who don’t like manual are gen Y-z’s who don’t know how to drive one and don’t know what they’re missing, or older/lazy ppl. Don’t get me wrong, I have an auto 335i with xhp stage 3, and yes its fun, but just can’t compare to a manual as far as driver engagement and rpm control.

@@PersonalUseChannel I get it. I'm fortunate tho that I've never had to replace a blown clutch probably because I never owned a car with big power. For me sporty cars are fun with a manual trans. Family cars, pickup trucks for me are fine as auto. My previous truck was a 2018 Toyota Tacoma manual trans but I realized it's not fun to drive as a manual so the next time I get a truck I'm going auto lol

I find automatics boring. And using the adaptive cruise control feature as a reason would make sense if this wasn't.. you know, a sports car. Sports cars are about driving, not letting the car drive you! Anyone buying an automatic over a manual in a sports car in 2023 needs their head read.
@CarGuy11
@CarGuy11 Год назад
Haha I knew that comment was coming lol.
@paulmoons
@paulmoons Год назад
@@CarGuy11 Hahah.. It's interesting because its just another "automatic" feature. Sure, like the fuel economy and the few tenths of lost speed, it's a fair point but surely it should be weighted. I guess what I am saying is that in 2019 when the Supra Mk V was first released, if the car came out with a manual gearbox but omitted all forms of cruise control, do you honestly believe anyone would've really cared? 💁‍♂
@CarGuy11

i didnt even watch the video. im just saying manual is the way to go. Even with the most sophisticated system youre just pointing the car not driving. If their auto is a second faster who cares about that if its a daily driver. A manual is much more engaging more fun and its a lost art that makes one part of an exclusive club.
