I've recently found your channel, there aren't enough words to describe how much I enjoy your family.Theres so much love and joy that you and your family display in a sometimes sad world. What a breath of fresh air y'all are.God bless y'all
It's wonderful that you allow the children and yourselves, a movie night with pizza and salad! Some families don't take time out to do things like that. I'm sure they would love to do it, but never have the time to do it.
I do this with my sister and her husband once a week we have a "Date Day" instead of night we rent a movie ( her daughter and son who live at home have all the streaming services) and we usually have leftovers from their house as a lunch. It's nice getting together and enjoying that time as a family. They don't have a DVD player or Xbox which is why we rent at the moment. Anna In Ohio
We used to do movie night on Friday nights with our kids. We would pick up pizza or whatever the kids wanted and go rent a movie. We did this until our kids were in their teens. Often they had friends over too. It might be followed up with a bonfire out back (we live in the country) and our son would cook over the fire with a giant wok. Usually deer meat, potatoes, and other vegetables. The boys, no girls allowed to stay overnight, would sleep in their trucks. My husband made sure everything and everyone followed the law and our stringent rules or they knew the bonfires and sleepovers were over. At least we knew where our teens were and the other families thanked us for hosting these get-togethers. They liked knowing their kids were in a well-chaperoned bonfire and were safe, not drinking alcohol, strictly forbidden, or partying out on some dirt road. Lots of great memories!
I love your food haul videos! And I also enjoy your cooking/baking videos as well as DITL! You guys are such a blessing to me! (I am single, 65, retired - but I learn so much!) I love your family - you and Shawn are a great team, and your kids are truly a joy to watch - so kind, respectful, and joyful! What a wonderful and full life you live together on your homestead! I had a small family in comparison (3 sons) and raised them on a small (5 acre) homestead. We used wood to supplement our heat. Cooked on old gas stove - perfect when the power went out during Indiana ice storms! Raised a huge garden and canned and froze my produce. Had pigs, chickens, beef, and goats for food, and the boys showed animals in 4H, along with horses, cats, and dogs! I even homeschooled my youngest (from 3rd to 8th grade) when he wasn't doing well in the public school system. I sure miss those days, but I love reminiscing while watching your family. Blessings.
Sabrina, I'm so glad you're here! Thank you for taking the time to leave a kind and encouraging comment. I know I'm going to miss these days when my children are older. :)
Love seeing your family and things you all. I raised my two sons 30 ,39 now having to watch every thing i bought. When i hear you saying Lost leaders for the sell things ,just wondered why you call them that Life in South Carolina is wonderful.
Hello friend!!! I was excited to see those noodles in the markdown bin. Shawn was with me in Aldi that day and he snatched them up super-quick. I'm thinking about buying some more leeks during my next once-a-month stockup and we'll put sauerbraten on next month's menu again. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe with us, Claudia. I hope you and the whole family are doing awesome. I also wanted to let you know that Sarah has picked out a dress pattern for the linen material that you sent. Hopefully we can show it on video once it's done. :)
After washing the banana skins can be cooked and taste like bacon. There are many recipes on the ‘net. Banana skins have more vitamins and minerals than the inside fruit. Probably be a fun treat.
Great savings indeed ! Thank you for sharing these deals with your audience ,however I don't have any of the markets mentioned 😭😒 lol , I still love watching ,to see what you got 😂 yes I feel nosey sometimes but in a fun way hahaha . Pizza ,salad and a movie in the living room , that's special ,I bet the kids loves these times ! Thumbs up ! Vicky from North Carolina enjoyed !
Hi Janice & family,I just love your shopping hauls.I am now comparing prices Janice.Thank you for all this information.Have a wonderful week with your beautiful family! ❤️
I really like your grocery haul videos. Sometimes I don’t get the sale ads read and by watching your videos, I have caught some great deals that I would have missed. Thank you for sharing all of your work.
I did buy the #8 bag of oranges from Walmart this week because they were huge oranges, and they were so sweet. I normally won't buy produce there because I am not a fan of the quality.
Janice you always inspire me to try to do better every week with my shopping, thank you. I went to Walmart today but only for stocking up on canning lids, it looked pretty sparse on the canning shelves no Harvest brand jars at all hopefully they will get them in soon, Homestead Heart said in her area 2 Walmarts had skids and skids of them in their stores, not in Ohio yet. Anyways I did go yesterday to Krogers and bought their Loss Leaders only and got one bag of those oranges they are Huge. I'm single and still have some left from the last big sale but they are very good. I also bought the eggs on sale and Tide with digital coupon $3.99 though I found one bottle on the main shelf that was marked $3.49 so I took the $3.99 bottle back. I am stocked up on detergent but always add a bottle or two when it's on sale. Sams Club I always buy their frozen fruit I don't make smoothies but I do put it in single portions and freeze it for desserts through the month. I only do Sams Club once a month. Living in a big city we have several Walmarts and Sams and they are next door to each other. My brother in law has been telling me about Beef Stew Meat they have there $4.98 a pound in 4 pound containers it was $19.07 but I will make 4 Crockpots of vegetable soup with a pound in each so that is probably enough to last me a couple months of crockpot soups for someone single this is a big savings I think. Even though I am single I still batch cook and freeze in to single servings containers. Thank you to everyone for your inspiration and sharing good deals. Anna In Ohio
When I buy packaged fruit that is sold by the bag not per pound I always weigh several and get the bag that weighs the most. I have bought 2 lb strawberries that actually weighed 2 1/2 lb so it just takes a minute and you might get a little extra fruit for the price
I'm just curious, because I have six kids of my own. Even though most of them are grown up now. Are any of your kids picky about what they eat. It seems like they eat whatever you feed them but I know with mine, some kids were pickier than others. Are there any foods they just don't like?
I know love the Honeycrisp apples, but they are so expensive here.. I bought 3 of them to try and they were 6. for the 3... I will hopefully find good deals, but they seem to be 2.99 a pound here. I wish Cabbage was .43 a pound Usually 1.39 or mor a pound here... Great deals on those Pizza's... love watching your video's
Your weekly sales versus Walmart are my favorite videos. I've never been a Walmart shopper but with these price comparisons I would think more people would skip the shopping at Walmart. We don't have a 10 box in Central Illinois we have a store called valu check where they add the 10% at the checkout. I have a Kroger store a half a mile from where I live I'm always checking their clearance and mark down items throughout the store.
Janice you have some good sale items our store here has great prices on pizza a large cost $4.25 Reg cost $7.99. so the pizza is a super sale. Cabbage was super cheap .45 cents a head I stocked up 6 heads so I can make my cabbage vegetable soup. Super good deals. 😊😊😊😊
I know Haul as always!! you are super busy but the best way to get new subscribers is to put out more videos. more views, likes and comments push your videos to more people who then might subscribe! Great Haul as always!!
I always enjoy your sales videos. Our Ingles did not have a good sale this week, I only spent 30.00 this morning. Hopefully next week will be better! Look forward to your live Tuesday night, missed you this week. Love & prayers!
Good Mlorning Janice, just grabbing a cup of coffee and watching your shopping video. I'm going shopping today. Out of 🐈 food and treats and just need a dew grocers. Snuggles and precious sra having a fit. I gave them some canned 🐔 but they want can. Food. I always enjoy your video's. Blessings
I think the apples (@ 3:34 ) the three pound bag is 66 cents pound ==1.98 divided by 3 equals 66 cents .. here is food for thought in september around 26 of 2023 i purchased hershey candy bars 6 pack 1. something ounce each for $2.00 package now they are $6.48 for same size amount same store .. big blue "w" i live great lakes region .
Yeah, those inflated prices are pretty substantial - especially in this short period of time! I'm grateful that the chocolate bars we get at Aldi haven't gone up in price for several years. They're still $1.99 like they've always been. For the apples, I ended up adding in the 10% upcharge when I was figuring in the unit price, so that's why the cost was higher than the 66 cents per pound. I always have to figure in the 10% just to be certain that I'm really, truly getting a good deal. :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead thank you for explaining the 10% upcharge .. that threw me off i wasn't thinking of the 10% upcharge I did notice at aldi some of the chocolate bars are up some 10 cents some 40 cents the chocuer ones now $2.65 each that are say cookie and cream . hazel nut etc . was $2.49 couple months ago .. some are still $1.99 ( my receipt reads "mr chocolate bar ) white are the white chocolate five nars individually wrapped m r = mosher roth )
Thank you for sharing sweetie 😘 lov u lov your beatiful sweet warm hearted ❤family 👪 .should call u smart warm welcome ing family .by best 👌 urube family 👪 ❤ 💙 ♥ 💖 💓 👪
Wow! You found some great grocery deals! Here in Alaska we do have a Kroger chain store called Fred Meyer, but the prices are nowhere as good as what you found!
Fantastic finds this week! I have the 10 box, Aldis and Walmart near me (25 miles) so your videos help find the finds I don't find. lol I don't have Kroger but when I do get to one, I take advantage of the discounts. My last Kroger haul I scored big time only because I saw your salad kits. I get just as giddy as you do with great deals :)
25 miles! I’m in the UK and we consider travelling more than 3 miles to go shopping to be excessive! Strange the way we all get to thinking, depending on our circumstances…
@@frugalitystartsathome4889 We are in an area where there are a lot of small towns and the big towns are at least an hour away. It's actually a good thing for me or I would be in the stores every day. It definitely makes you think about your purchases. Lists help a lot :) I am so grateful with the neighbors I have. We borrow back and forth so we don't need to take that unnecessary trip.
wow on the eggs! my King Sooper (Kroger) on sale & with the digital coupon is $2.49. $2.49 is still a good deal here as it is just shy of $2.00 off regular price.
Question about your sourdough bread starter: why do you use spelt and hard wheat? Is there a reason why you grind up your own flour instead of just using regular wheat and spelt flour?
Hi Susan! Sarah says she typically uses spelt for her sourdough starter, although she has used other flours sporadically in the past. I prefer to grind up our flour just because we can get some extra nutrition in those foods by having freshly ground flour instead of the store-bought flour that's been made shelf-stable. The shelf-stable flours have to have parts of the whole grain removed in order for them stay good on the shelf long-term. It's not something I'm fanatical about, but I like to use freshly ground grains when I'm able. :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead thank you for your reply. I do not have a lot of pantry space for large quantities storage. It would be great to get that extra nutrition if I had a place to keep a grinder, etc. But, I do enjoy your videos. Hope Sarah is enjoying the special glass we sent her for her birthday. It matches one of the t-shirts she wears.
Hi ya’ll, I am looking for the lights y’all put under desk and kitchen area. I couldn’t find it Amazon store front. Can yall help me? Love your channel. Charlene for Louisiana
Hi Janice ! I’m new to your channel and really enjoying your videos. I have a question, sorry if it’s already been talked about. What do you mean when you say “ lost leaders “ when talking about sales ?
It’s the deals put on by the supermarkets to lure you in. They can actually lose money on those particular deals, but they hope that once you’re through the door you’ll spend your money on other things that you need / see, thus making up for it.
First of all, I'm so very glad you're here! Yes, the comment below explains it perfectly. "Loss leaders" are the products that stores put on sale to lure you in the doors. They will oftentimes lose money on those items, but the gamble is that you'll buy regularly priced items while you're in there. Looking forward to seeing you around here more often! :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead thank you so much! I am here often but, as I’ve said, I’m not in the US so quite often I don’t have much to comment upon, given that fact. But I do enjoy your vlogs and I hugely admire your budgeting strategies. Your family and your lifestyle strikes me as just lovely, so I’m sure you will be seeing comments from me every so often - and always with best wishes from the UK.
Oh Sharon, I'm afraid to say that we don't use anything special. We just use what the feed store has available. Andrew thinks it's called Old Jack. We do, however, supplement the dog's food with animal organs after we process our livestock. We also give them the leftovers after I make big batches of bone broth, so I'm sure they're receiving little "extras" from those sources. Sorry I couldn't be more help! :)
Thank you for the sale information. I just went to 10 box and got their sales. Also they were putting out more of the sale chicken when I was there. A krautburger is onion, cabbage and hamburger cooked together then put inside bread dough and baked. My husband's family are Germans from Russia, that is where I learned how to make the krautburger.
Oh, I'm sure we will! We posted a Pumpkin Cream Cheese muffin video yesterday, but I'm pretty sure we'll have more kitchen videos to share with you all. :)

You seem to be averaging $50 savings a week which adds up to $2, 600 a year! Every penny counts and as the old saying goes...If you take care of your pennies the dollars will take care of themselves!! A $2,600 savings a year is more than 2 months of your current grocery budget per month, so eat for 12 months and only pay to eat for 10 months!! You are eating for free for a little over 2 months, just by being a savvy shopper!!
(from Shawn) Hi Lisa. We're trying to catch up on comments. We picked up over 800 new subscribers in January, so lots of new questions. We're going to be releasing some videos next week that are a bit different, so we'll see how that goes. Thank you for being a friend, and yes, I agree that Janice is a great shopper.
Janice. I don’t understand about the Azure Standard that you keep talking about. Can you please explain that more. Why is that better than Sams club- for example the Cinnamon that you bought there. Thanks. I enjoy watching these videos.
Hey Janice when you make your fermented sauerkraut will you share the recipe please. I have tried it before but when I’ve made it found it to be too salty. You are a good deal finder! Have a blessed day!
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead just glad I saw this right when it came out because I was headed out for groceries and now I know the best sales! Thanks so much!
Yeah Lynne, we don't have store cereal often, but it's a fun treat for the children every once in a while. I watch for the really good sales and try to stock up then. It may be several months before I buy it again - it just really depends on if I find a good deal or not. :)
Love seeing your family and things you all. I raised my two sons 30 ,39 now having to watch every thing i bought. When i hear you saying Lost leaders for the sell things ,just wondered why you call them that Life in South Carolina is wonderful.
Stores will put a few things on sale each week at or below their cost to get more people into the store, hopefully picking up several other items along the way that they will make money off of. Those at or below cost sales are called lost leaders.
