Genius, I saw this performance live at the Fox in Atlanta Georgia in 1982. It was spellbinding. Grace commanded the stage alone , very simple, chic production, mesmerizing , only a strobe light, the sound of rain and fierce attitude, You couldn't take your eyes off her. This performance was unlike anything else and light years ahead of it's time. I'm grateful to have witnessed it.
"A condition of complete simplicity", as Eliot intended, is death. Never mind. I was at the 1982 performance at the Fox in Atlanta and talked to Grace Jones afterwards. Breathtaking in all respects.
I saw this at The Cinema in San Francisco in 1982...She kept the audience waiting for over two hours...people were going crazy but she was worth the wait...one of the greatest live shows ever...I remember she was doing Warm Leatherette and knocking over the symbols..her stage hands kept trying to pick them up and she was yelling at them.. "Leave those fuckers on the floor"... Such a legend !!
She's a piece of art. Such a surreal entity! her aura is incredible, so sensual and mysterious. Some ones don't believe in Grace because part of her image was directed by Goude, but, others women wouldn't fit in her aesthetic, some singers of today took things from her but they don't get the same result, is her aura, is her. She isn't manipulated by the aesthetic, she brings the aesthetic, the identity. My favourite human in the world.
She was always totally UNIQUE & had her very own sense of style & self confidence. She didn't need to emulate anybody, yet today, so many young artists try to emulate her, but with little to no positive results. Love you & respect to you Grace Jones.
I`m a fan of her, since she was singing La Vie en Rose. That was 1977 and I was 16 Years old. I like most of her songs, but my favorite song of her is and will always be Walking in the rain. Now I`m 60 and this song still put me in trance. Grace, Sly and Robby, that was musical perfection.
Hi, this is your older brother, I was 18 then, and I felt and feel exactly like you described. I've heard thousands of albums, and Nightclubbing is my favorite.
Miss Jones is one of the coolest people who ever lived! I just watched a fabulous doc about her. Bloodlight and Bami. You see the stage persona of alien sleekness or spooky rage but offstage she is funny, friendly, caring, frank. A must see!!
One of the best combos in musical history was teaming up Grace with Sly and Robbie. Fantastic! atmospheric and (bar perhaps one or 2 synth sounds) Timeless!
Grace achieved something that few singers/performers ever have. She has a life long career because she never for a moment forgot all the people and that brought her success. The proof is the tickets still sell out every concert she does the same as they did when she was promoting her second album, "Fame." Her mystious alluring and truly beautiful and unsual voice and her approach to music cannot be reliplicated. These are fact well known to any Grace Jones fan.
I remember being in Paris with my walkman on, Listening to this song, It was raining. Wearing a Charles Jourdan trench coat and CJ shoes too that I had bought that day. I was on my way to Espace Cabin to meet up for dinner with friends and my new boyfriend. They were all there and I walked in shaking my coat off and gave my coat to the coat girl. What a magical evening! Thank you Grace for a great memeory that your music brings back!
Grace was (then) and remains one of a kind. At her peak in 1981 with this intro song to the amazing Nightclubbing album. Today's female music stars (in the charts) don't have the same presence individuality or originality. Any wonder that after 36 years this still sounds just as good.
Back in the 70,s when I was coming out and hearing her at the major dance clubs, when I discovered there were gay bars. Man this woman was rain supreme. She had a class about her that helped me except myself and a style about her that was just so androgonist, that I could,nt help loving. Aside from the groovy tunes she was singing and a sound that made you want to dance your ass off for. I came out with her, and she was just an easy way to except myself. I love little Ms. Grace, and I know she knows it. She,s a classic and I know she knows it. Thanks for all The Young Hearts Run Free. Cause your in my ball park range baby. Love....Dennis
Flash and the Pan was an Australian New Wave musical group (essentially an ongoing studio project) initiated during the late 1970s by Harry Vanda and George Young, both former members of The Easybeats. The duo's first success was their debut album with single "Walking in the Rain", which was later covered by Grace Jones.
Yes, the best is absolutely the original by Flash & the Pan whitout a doubt. I also know the Easybeats (Friday on my mind, 1967!) Thank you for your information 👍 Greetings from Italy 👋👋👋
I never understood why her persona wasn't propelled into the Star Trek Genre - She exudes an other worldly being!!!!! Always Unique !!!! Always Magnetic!!!! Always Love that Mystique that she owned and no one could capture like Grace could!!!!!!
Oh man! This woman was so damn cool!! Love you Grace Jones. You're a work of art.....Genius!! Thank you for the superb musik & for givin us a true taste of the 80's. :-)
she's a goddess. also a very talented singer. bought this album as soon as it came out bk in the day. Love the reggae influences. the musicians on the albums during this period were top notch. timeless, ms. jones!
This entire one woman show cd album was one of the most creative concepts and performances of its time and in my opinion holds up extremely well even now. Talk about T.A.L.E.N.T!
Never seen this tape before, however, I have always been fascinated by Grace and since I was walking in the rain yesterday It caught my attention I just luv...the coolness of it. keep on keeping on Grace. Much Luv... SHALOM
I love this video. Eventhough it was made in 1980 I think it is still powerfull. Grace Jones has a magnetic charme and a very strong personality. If you have the chance to see her performing live, even if you might not like her music, you will be amazed by the show. Honestly, a Grace Jones' concert is an experience not to be missed.
Damn, someone needs to reissue the whole One Man Show onto DVD. Spectacular performance -- so stark and eerie. The songs sound even better live than they do on record: tougher and more minimal.
She is part of an amazing tribe of people in all walks of life, stretching who we are and what we can be. Overlap with the likes of David Bowie, k.d. lang, Prince, Little Richard. Bend it like Grace, lol!
TheNew Tomboy This is a song by Harry Vanda and George Young. Young had two younger brothers called Malcolm and Angus and also Vanda and Young began writing and producing the new group called... *AC/DC*. True story.
Grace Jones was the epitome of Art Pop along with Roxy Music. Although Walking In The Rain is my favorite song that she has done. She is a fantastic performer. Her albums are awesome.
