Grace Ping Sets Another Age Group World Record 

ya'know, you watch one race, youtube feeds you more, then you're hooked

SUPERSTAR....I am not talking smack, but wow the rest of the girls looked like they were dying after the race while Ping is walking around smiling.

At the end, while the other girls are just try to recuperate, Ms. Ping grabs her backpack and walks off. A+

Seen a few of her races now, she is amazing. Just relentless when she hits the front. She obviously loves running, and running hard!

Might have been said. I love the way she just grabbed her bag and walked off the track after setting a record.

Grace Ping. Katelyn Touhy. The next 10 years could (emphasize could) be very interesting indeed.

WTF, She beat the record in her age group by over 11 secs! That is insane, even in distance running...

The second place finisher also broke the old record but lost by 10 sec. wow.

Kaitlyn Tuohyy ran a 15:37 as a 15 year old. 3rd best time this year in any age group.

I wish an announcer would resurrect the old Secretariat commentary: "Grace Ping is running like a tremendous machine!...Grace Ping is running all alone!"

Grace is a brilliant runner , I really hope she makes it to pro level in the years to come .

According to my stop watch,,,, The girl who took second place, also, beat the old record. WOW!

While boys invariably get faster with puberty, with girls it's often the opposite, given all the body changes. It will be interesting to see how Grace goes the next few years. For now, though, she has amazing form.

She's averaging about 1:19 per lap. Most 8th grade girls running track can't keep that pace for an 800.

Bad positioning at the start, getting boxed in and pushed during the first half of the run slowed her pace and time, I think she could've gone faster. At 6:30, she glanced at someone, maybe her coach, and she started running faster and trying to get the front. Congrats Grace. She is a beast, impressive win against college students in their early 20's and breaking the meet record. I still can't get over the lead she had over everyone.

Fantastic run for a young girl of 13. Her time will stand as Singapore 's national record for women in 5000m which is so tough a race that it is seldom run in Singapore's athletic calendar.

Sheer power!!! Just amazing.... For those of you who wishes to save time, shifting to the top gear begins at about 10:40 After that, her lonely race keeps going till the finish line. She probably made many runners give up their future career.

I was timing the laps. 121 in middles, then as Grace pulled to front and away, she was running 119, 118, 117, so I figured this was 17:00 5K. She clearly can run 118's forever. 115 is a 5:00 mile pace. 122.5 is 5:30 pace. Repeat quarters is excellent training for 5K.

Wow Grace can run!!! To me out looks like she's picking up speed closer to the end of the race.

ok, start at 0:02 then I expect 5000m on a 400m track makes 12.5 rounds 0.5r, 200m) the starting half round is passed at 0:40 makes 38secs since start. 1.5r, 600m) is passed at 2:00 minutes = 120 secs - 40sec => 80 secs resp 1min20secs for first full round 2.5r, 1000m) is passed at 3:20 => 1min20secs again (good and constant pace) 3.5r, 1400m) is passed at 4:40 => wow, do the have a robot setting the pace? 1min 20secs again 4.5r, 1800m) is passed at 6:01 => hmm 1 sec slower for this round 6:30 as lockdown channel noted, Grace Ping in 7th place (yellow shorts) is warned by trainer in yellow shirt "Hey the pace has decreased by one sec in last round! Go!" 6:47 grace moves up to 4th place then stays there in the curve 7:06 grace moves forward, has to go to forth line, because the 3 girls in front are running in parallel but she will be in front in the next curve 5.5r, 2200m) is passed at 7:21 => backto the old 1min 20secs round. Wow, what a constant pace. It's just perfect. How much training is behind this? 6.5r, 2600m) is passed at 8:39 => hmm, grace has a better pace by 2 seconds, 1min18 sec for last round now 7.5r, 3000m) is passed at 9:58 => 1min 19 secs, still 5 rounds to go. Can she keep the pace or even run faster? Will there be a kick in the last 2 rounds? 8.5r, 3400m) is passed at 11:17 => 1min 19secs again, but she is pulling away now with longer strides. I wonder what next round will be ... 9.5r, 3800m) is passed at 12:35.5 => 1min18.5secs. Keeping the pace, but that's hard enough isn't it? 10.5r, 4200m) is passed at 13:54 (even though the camera almost doesn't show finishline) => 1min 18.5 secs again 11.5r, 4600m) is passed at 15:12 => 1min18secs. Still slightly faster. What will the final round be!? Go, Grace. Go! You're going all the way! 12.5r, 5000m) 16:28 Finish line. The fastest lap 1min16secs. 16:28 minus the 0:02 secs at the start of the video. Amazing 16.26.8. Wow. And what a constant pace all the way. Really, amazing.

This really makes me wonder if all Americans ran 6 miles to school and back, 5 days a week, how good would we would be vs. the Kenyans and Ethiopians. I was watching some really old videos from the early 1900s and some of those American kids could run for days at near sprinting speed.

What a crap announcer. A world record is being set and he has about as much passion as my ex.

The most telling feature of this race is that after the race, while the other racers are bent over gasping, she is standing tall, one deep breath, and, apparently, all physiology is back to its resting state. I've never seen anything like it. It would be interesting to know how long it takes her heart rate to return to resting state after a race. Not long is my guess. I don't think she is human. lol.

I cant believe how fast she ran the last 3 laps !!! I kept thinking she has misjudged it and thinks the is on the last lap ... but no she just keeps going !!!

That is about the most amazing world record and the most downplayed such by an announcer and crowd. I assume not many people knew this was a 13-year-old blowing away the older competition and setting a world record. Otherwise, there's no excuse for everyone taking it so nonchalantly.

And second place was 16:35.9, also under the old record, but I don't know how old the runner was.....

16:28 for 5k at 13 is PHENOMENAL !!!!!!!!! IT TOOK ME UNTILL I WAS AN 27 YEAR OLD MALE TO RUN 16:42 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another child prodigy .. my earliest memories being of MARY DECKER-SLANEY .. Almost Olympic caliber at 14 ..

Damn. These people were so fortunate to have been at the track when this happened, and most of them don't give two farts about it. And the next five or six girls behind her were no slackers either.

Just to put this into context, that is an average of 5'17" per mile for 3 1/8 miles. That is almost as fast as Paula Radcliffe maintained when running her first world record for the Marathon, and this is a 13 year old girl! That is unbelievable! She's got 10 years of development to knock 2 minutes and a few seconds off that and she'll have the world record. She should be able to accomplish this easily if she dedicates herself to the task.

Can't tell for sure but it seems that #2 must have crossed at around 16:36, also breaking the previous 16:38.10 record apparently.

She's phenomenal! I don't know if it's happened yet, but I sure hope Nike does NOT get their filthy hands on her. She has a great destiny before her.
