I used to have to wack them sometimes to get them to work. Other things were CLOGGED screens! I cleaned one that had OIL, and Latex paint so bad I had to replace it! Most people don't know about the IN-LINE filter, or forget about them!
I am learning so much, thank you! Question…my Magnum only seems to spray consistently if I turn psi way up - which produces so much overspray…what can I look for / do?
The magnum series is a homeowner machine. Once the pressure begins to drop, you have to replace the pump. Some models can't be replace cost effectively. If you do this for a living, I would suggest a Graco 390 or Titan 410. I am glad it helps you
2nd day with a brand new Graco 390 PC and its not holding pressure, spitting out the waste valve when on spray mode. Balls are clean, lol, not stuck, no debris, everythings screwed on properly. No idea
Awesome video man, thanks for the information. I have this exact same liner and it starts up, but once you squeeze the trigger it shuts the motor off. Any information will help if you can. Thanks
There should be a gasket st the end of the cylinder like in the video. You can not tighten with a wrench. You must hit it multiple times with a hammer like in the video
Does the inlet valve on a Graco Magnum airless have a gaskey in it? When cleaning the inlet valve, I found what looked like a black gasket broken inside
Hey Brian, question I have a graco 390 prostep, I'm not having loss of pressure. My problem is that it's building to much pressure and won't stop. I have to run to relief valve so hose doesn't bust. Any insight on what could be the problem? Thanks
@@Brian_the_repair_guythanks for reply, I have installed new pressure control, new relief valve, new cylinder with new packing kit, new board and still having the same issue ... can't get the pressure to stop building up smh
Hi Brian my Graco 490 ultra mx II upper ball is stuck. I removed and cleaned the lower ball section. I inserted a small pick up to check the upper ball is not free. How do I get the upper ball free?
Typically if you go from holding pressure, to pressure loss and the oump has not been opened, then you will have some debris in the pump restricting the flow or Ball movement.
@@Brian_the_repair_guy I found a major gash in steal under where the seat is. I’ve been replacing gaskets there for a while now. Looks like I have to replace the whole damn inlet line
Hi Brian. I have a 495 ultra max 2. It will prime normal and pressure up but after about 10 minutes you can visibly see the lower end of pump loosen up and paint will start spraying everywhere as it try’s to keep pressure . If I tighten it back up it works for a few minutes then does it again. The entire unit is only 2 years old. I’ve changed the packings and replaced o rings. Any help would be awesome. I’ve asked long time painters and they have no idea.
Make sure the inlet housing has clean threads. All the way down to the valve and guide. Same for the cylinder. Replace the lower O ring on the cylinder. When you tighten the inlet housing you MUST hit it with a hammer to ensure it is tight. Hit the tabs like it owes you money. About 3 swift times. If the housing continues to loosen, replace the full fluid section. It costs about $380.
@Brian_the_repair_guy what happens if I do everything you say and it keeps leaking. Graco has done something for the pickup tube housing to come loose the way it does. My o ring is fine, my threads are clean, I hit it with a hammer and it keeps leaking. I'm about done with Graco.
Residue doesn't cause a problem with the ball, dried solids are usually the issue. My videos are not specific to a full rebuild. As I state in the videos, these are the basics to get a guy back to work quickly. I try to make videos that will help a guy on the job with little knowledge, get back to work quickly and safely
Hey Brian, I just got a 395 that primes and builds pressure but keeps creeping a little every 2-3 while a rest. At first I thought new packings needed but when opened it up found the cylinder has a couple scratches but no visible damage to the packings….question: I have seen a video where the guy uses 600 wet sanding to make the scratch surface softer and get a little bit of more life out of the cylinder, what’s your opinion about this? And finally….The sprayer is working besides the annoying constant creeping of the motor so is there any risk of damaging more parts by running it like this? Asking because everything else like piston etc look great. Thanks in advance Brian.
Sanding the cylinder will make no difference in the end. By sanding it out, you do 2 things. First, you change the diameter, this means the cylinder is larger therefore the factory specs for the ratio of the cylinder and the packings are not as tight. This will allow more of a chance of high pressure leaks and will speed pressure cutting. The second thing, you will inevitably sand one section more than another, putting the cylinder in an oval shape. Again leading to pressure cutting and increase the creeping intervals you currently see. The cost of the cylinder is minimal along with a set of packings. I personally would never bother taking the time to perform the sanding because it will make zero difference and save you nothing.
@@DownloaderVideo you cylinder is already beyond repair. Nothing to worry about there. The packings will wear faster now, just keep an eye on the pressure. As the packings wear, the pressure will be hard to maintain and the creep will be more frequent. If the packings wear too much, you could get pressure cutting on the piston. So just be aware, but other wise you should be good.
@@Brian_the_repair_guy Brian, the sprayer is building pressure all the way to 3300 and I’m able to spray no problems but the creeping is non stop. I made a video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rcJeN_Y9-m4.html When it stopped it was because I turned down the pressure to see how it was holding it. Am I already breaking stuff or can I keep pushing it? 😬 Thanks in advance!
I know I’m a little late just thought I would leave a comment. My pump sprays just fine and then all the sudden it’ll go dead like it’s been unplugged but then I check it still plugged in and everything I turn the pressure all the way up and it works but below 3/4 of the way won’t work at all.
I've been told that I can buy a disposable displacement pump or an endurance pump that can be rebuilt with the repacking kit. Is there really a difference between the two? Can I buy an aftermarket non-OEM pump and re-pack it?
I can't answer if you can buy a nonOEM pump and rebuild it. I have no idea. Graco does offer 2 replacement pumps for the 390-595. One is the endurance pump. The other is the Express pump. The express pump is much less costly. Throw it away and replace it.
Hey great video. I have a Graco 395. It primes ok and ready to spray. When I start spraying my pressure bleeds off. It wont cycle. If i turn the machine off then on it builds the pressure up only to bleed off after a few sprays. I have repacked it. Changed my transducer out. Any help would be greatly appreciated
First thing is putting a pressure gauge on the machine to see what the max pressure is. Then spray and watch the gauge to see if and when the pumpp starts to run again.
This sounds just like what I've been through with my 395. I don't know where I discovered this but I removed smart control cover and on the inside right hand corner is plug which resembles a phone jack. I unplugged jack and waited a minute before plugging it back in. Bingo, ran fine. However it tends to be recurring and I have to unplug jack every once in a while to get the machine running again. I think the plug may actually come loose from being moved from shop to truck and up and down stairs on job sites. May help.
There are typically 2 types of damage you will see in a ball guide. One is pressure cutting. This is damage to the smooth surface due to a failed seal. This allows the materials to seep past under pressure and it will eventually "errode" away the metal leaving pits and scratches. Two. What we have in this video is compression damage. Over time the constant pounding of the piston compressing the paint against the seat as well as the tightening of the inlet housing will eventually cause the guide to compress and flare like in the video. The guide is a softer metal than the rest of the fluid section.
Ive had a recurring problem with my 395 where it primes no problem but then after a few minutes pressure steadily drops off and then nothing at all. Trieed all remedies you recommended here but still nothing. Im not sure how i discovered my solution butt i removed smart control panel and on the inside-right, on the very edge is a plug which resembles a phone jack. Anyway, i unplugged the jack, waited a few minutes, then plugged it back in. Worked like a charm. However, like i said, it is recurring. So unplugging jack works. I tend to think plug may come loose from sprayer being moved around from shop to truck and so on. Have you ever come across this?
That wire is the transducer. It measures the pressure you have on the machine. When it goes bad, you will get all kinds of pressure issues. I would suggest replacing the transducer
My prime works but when I switch to build pressure in the dispense hose it runs out the blow off tube and won’t build pressure. Is there another check ball inside the pump for the older magnum X7?
Thanx much. Now I understand which piston area(part) is relate to pressure problem. I could disassemble piston but I have no idea where & what problem is.
The part should be installed with a hammer to ensure tight compression. A wrench will not achieve the proper torque. Using a wrench will not usually remove the intake housing for the same reason when it was tightened properly.
Thanks for the video, but why does my sprayer keep sucking up water it won’t stop and I lose pressure, any ideas ? It just keeps going and going instead of stopping
Of the water is not leaking back out through the prime valve then you may have something blocking the upper or lower ball or packings are bad. You have any other information on what's happening
@Brian Shumack the repair guy I have the same situation but the water is flowing back out of the main fill pump and the prime line. Sprayer never fully primes. Just runs. Water runs through fine, both the main intake and the prime outflow but it will not prime. Both balls are clear, machin is very clean. Gaskets are good. Not sure what to do.
Do you have a Titan 540? If so not all of them have a fuse. The fuse would be inside the box with the power switch. It may be a circuit breaker under the bottom of the machine
I have an issue with my graco 490 pc pro. the tips keep clogging up and i had to kept reversing the tip to unclog it. Its so annoying while spraying. I tried everything cleaned out both the filters. cleaned it out with more than 2 pails of water. The sprayer works just as new when i take out the tip. But as soon as i put it back its just start doing its plugging up thing again. But if i run the sprayer just with water it seemed to work just fine even with the tip on. The tips i was going with fflp 308, 310,312 nothing neither one of them worked . Except the RAC X 515. it just started happening. I worked with same paint the other day with fflp 308 and it worked just fine but now its just so annoying to be keep reversing the tip again again. If you could help with this it would be much much appreciated.
My first though on the FFLP tips is to use the fine filters in the machine and the gun. This will catch far more trash. These are the blue filters from Graco. You may need to increase the pressure a bit. When the pressure is lowered, the machine can't push through some of the trash as easily. How old is your hose? Build up in the hose can cause excessive clogs as it breaks off.
@@Brian_the_repair_guy The machine is just couple of months old. I bought it at the end of the last april. Also the i have tried increasing the pressure all the way up. Filters were all cleaned up i have checked them twice a day. There was no gunk in the filters or in the hose. I tried thinning and straining down the paint as well. But its just wont work with the tips
@@Brian_the_repair_guy It was working just fine with the fflp 308 tip day before yesterday but the next day it just didn't work. With out tips it works like brand new. But as soon as you put the tips in its just stop working.
@@gurparveshsingh5348 I would suggest the blue Graco filters if your machine is Graco or the fine filters if it is Titan. The medium or black filters do not catch enough material for an 08 tip. What product are you spraying?
Not sure I understand. Are you wanting to have the pump hose point in a different direction? If you do, then yes you can turn the cylinder to where you like as long as the hose is not stressed.
I expected the wipe ring to be melted down around the piston. And I suspect the packings have to damaged somewhat and the last time I had to clean out the lower ball the owner thought it would be a great idea to do it every time until the seal failed on the cylinder and it leaked. I have a drawer of lower ball cages probably like you do. It’s hard to tell owners how to do maintenance without getting a blank look because they just want it to work! It’s hard to determine how far to go on every machine.
True. Each machine is like a new adventure, even if they are repeat "offenders" or first timers. I try to teach them proper use and maintenance. They are painters not mechanics and that's about as far as it goes. Some try, but eventually get out of the proper practice. In the end, I do my job to make money. I also try to teach and I know that if they follow what I teach, it can mean less money for me. If they learn, I am happy to not see them as regularly. If they choose to ignore my words I am happy to take their money.
@@NFSgamingEvo remove the pump hose from the back of the pump and turn on the pump on low pressure. Give it about 2 mins of running and see if water comes out of the hose fitting. When it does turn it off and reattach hose. If it does not work, hit the pump while it is pumping about 3 times, wait for water same as above
@@NFSgamingEvo no the prime valve is fine. You removed the hose from the back of the pump, not your pressure hose right? If you did the right hose, then the lower or upper ball is stuck. This happens with the oil in new pumps. The video shows how to remove the lower and loosen the lower and upper ball
Hey dude! I hope you're doing great, I have a little problem with a 490 Ultimate MX II, the prime valve doesn't seem to be sealing the pressure to the gun hose, the water keeps running through the draining hose even when the valve is set to pressurize
@@Brian_the_repair_guy thank you for your answer! The valve doesn't seem to have any kind of leak, the problem began when I was cleaning the machine, usually I charge it with water so I can get rid of all the paint inside the gun hose, but this time the machine was struggling to build the pressure and water kept coming out from the drain hose even though the valve was set to spray, I haven't disassembled the valve yet. Was looking for videos about the problem before tearing it apart and that's how I found your video 😁
@@Blackat2447 if your prime valve continues to run water while it is on spray, then you have a leak. The top 2 reasons for a leak is the valve is bad or there is debris in the valve not allowing it to close properly. This video is for Titan, but it is exactly the same for Graco. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lAxTGcWcYZU.html
No poer when switch is turned on. Proceeded to take apart and started with the pressure switch that was totally broken wired to the micro switch! Have gone a little further and pulled the board and no blown caps or burnt board, visually. Got the sprayer from a relative and they said the problem is electrically!
If you cut the other wire from the switch and connect them, the machine should run if all else is good, but the machine will run without stopping until you turn it off
